C24 – Not to Get Involved?

As Wang Zizhao’s sedan chair disappeared into the distance, Shan and his guards rushed over with an injured coachman on their backs. They approached Tang Yue and asked, “Young master, are you hurt?”

“I’m fine,” Tang Yue waved his hand and gestured to the injured coachman. “Put him down first. Where are you hurt?”

No one said anything. The guard who carried the coachman laid him on the ground, and his movements were a bit rough. The driver’s face turned pale from the pain.

Tang Yue thought to himself, “This is really something… My son is not immune to pain.”

He walked over and squatted beside the driver. First, he checked for any visible external injuries. He found only a small wound, about the size of a fingernail, on his forehead. Although there was not much blood, the driver’s expression showed he was in immense pain, indicating that the injury wasn’t superficial.

Tang Yue placed his hands on the driver’s head and carefully touched every inch of it. As he touched, he asked, “Does it hurt here? … What about here? …”

A crowd of curious onlookers gathered around, observing the elegantly dressed youth touching the body of the lowly slave.

If the slave wasn’t old and unattractive, they would have engaged in immoral activities.

“Ah…” When Tang Yue touched the young man’s hip bone, the young man cried out in agony. Then, he clenched his teeth and gazed at Tang Yue with a look of fear and despair.

Tang Yue was unaware that in this era, where there was no medicine, slaves with injuries were left untreated. If the injury was severe, they would be kicked out of the house and left to fend for themselves.

Therefore, Tang Yue couldn’t comprehend the despair in the young man’s eyes. He reassured him, saying, “Don’t be afraid. It’s only a minor injury. It should heal in a week or two.”

He deduced that the driver had probably landed on his buttocks first when he was thrown off. This had prevented serious injuries, which meant the driver was quite cautious.

Tang Yue didn’t stop there. He continued to examine the slave’s right ankle and found that the joints were swollen. Fortunately, there was no damage to the bones.

He carefully assessed the degree of injury to his hip. Even a minor sprain on the hip was excruciatingly painful. If it was a fracture, it would heal itself if it was minor. However, if it was severe, it would be much more challenging to recover compared to a broken leg bone.

Without the necessary scans, Tang Yue could only rely on his hands to examine the situation. After repeated checks, he was relieved to diagnose it as a minor fracture.

“Your injury will be painful for a while. Go home and rest for a few days. Avoid moving on the first day, but you can start exercising moderately from the second day onwards. Apply some topical pain relievers and live blood ointment, and also put some on your feet. When you get home, use a hot towel to apply it for half an hour… Um, half an hour. Then ask someone you know to find me, and I’ll teach them some massage techniques.”

The driver looked at Tang Yue with a bewildered expression, as if he couldn’t believe that a young master like Tang Yue would treat his injury personally.

He also thought that Tang Yue’s instructions were impossible to follow.

“Do you understand what I’m saying?” Tang Yue asked, wondering if the driver had a concussion.

The driver’s face turned red as he muttered, “Yes, sir…”

Shan whispered something in Tang Yue’s ear, and he suddenly realized his mistake. He looked at the injured driver apologetically.

“This is a work-related injury, and Marquis’s Mansion will take care of it. Please write down what I said and let the butler handle this matter,” Tang Yue instructed Shan.

Tang Yue knew that work-related injuries didn’t exist in this era, but since the injured driver was a member of Marquis’s Mansion, he couldn’t just ignore him.

The onlookers were amazed by Tang Yue’s actions. They had never heard of a master’s family taking responsibility for their slaves, and the fact that this young master didn’t shy away from an injured slave was truly remarkable.

Of course, there were also some who thought that Tang Yue’s behavior was unbecoming of someone from a prestigious family, and that he was not the typical heir raised by a prominent household.

At a restaurant by the roadside, a young man scowled as he surveyed the crowd. “Who is he? And why was he in the carriage of Yueyang Marquis’s Mansion?”

“I’ll investigate immediately,” his subordinate replied.

“Do it right away! It’s a shame to waste such an opportunity.” The young man sneered as he ordered, “Send someone to deliver a cart of medicinal herbs to Prince Zhao’s Mansion. Tell him it’s a gift from me to help him recover quickly.”

“Yes.”

“My poor brother Wang is going to be a cripple for the rest of his life, haha…” Tang Yue exclaimed with a heavy heart.

Tang Yue returned home with his men, and first escorted his two sisters to their yard. Then, he sought out the housekeeper and asked him to gather the people who had recently left the mansion. He had some questions to ask them.

Earlier, when they were on the street, there were many people around them, making it difficult to investigate the incident.

“Yes,” the butler replied. He was relieved that Tang Yue had accompanied them today. Otherwise, the situation could have been much worse.

Before everyone arrived, Tang Yue asked Shan alone, “What exactly happened at that time? Why did all of you fall behind?”

Shan knelt down on the ground and bowed his head respectfully. “When we passed by that street, I noticed that a few people were following us secretly. At first, only half of the people went to investigate, but they never returned. I was worried that it might be a trap, so I instructed the driver to speed up. Little did I know that the horse would go berserk as soon as the driver flicked the horsewhip.

“I led my men to chase after them, but suddenly, a group of beggars appeared from an adjacent alleyway and obstructed our path. After dealing with them, we quickly made our way back here and found the driver lying on the ground. It was my fault for not protecting the master! Please punish me, young master!”

Tang Yue didn’t blame him. It was evident that the events of today had been premeditated. What could the perpetrators have wanted by creating chaos with the wild horse and intercepting their guards?

Could it be the enemies of Yueyang Marquis’s Mansion? Were they seeking revenge for the debts owed by the father and son of the Marquis?

However, Tang Yue had only gone out for the first time today, and only those from the Prefecture knew about the existence of the Marquis’s son. Based on the situation at that time, the attackers did not have enough time to arrange all of this.

Could it be that they didn’t target them but instead used them to carry out their plan? Coincidentally, they almost collided with Wang Zizhao’s sedan chair. It was all too suspicious.

Tang Yue envisioned a series of legal battles and shuddered at the thought. He had no interest in these disputes between wealthy families. Could he please not get involved?

As expected, wealth and power came at a price.
