,m Olivia's power, dismantle, was a very interesting case. It had similar properties of those with disintegration, but it only broke down the parts to their base forms. Her grandmother was the one who brought up the similarities.
"Don't you wonder if you can get to the point where you can totally destroy whatever you wanted to destroy?" Grandmother Oh asked. "It's fascinating if you think about it. Your power may be short of that, but it breaks things down to its base if it has one. What if you pass that point with the bases and turn it into nothingness?"
Olivia had contemplated it a lot ever since that day. She practiced hard even though she didn't like her power too much. She grew to like it. She was curious about how such a complex thing could become so basic. What did it look like? Why did it create a complicated thing?
The female shifter glared at her as the dirt and stone started to dissolve into nothingness. Olivia had figured out the reason why her power was so limiting.
It was her will to go beyond the limits. She had finally broken through into actual disintegration but it came at a price. It would eat at her at a faster pace and make her unable to do much for a while.
"You think you can stop me?" The female shifter raised an eyebrow. "How cute." Rocks and earth ripple from the ground. Olivia quickly moved forward, meeting it head on. Evan watched as Olivia's fighting style quickly changed.
She was more direct, hard hitting. She was mimicking Lee Seng's style of fighting. The earth dissolved in front of her as she continued forward. Evan snapped out of it and stood up.
"She's gonna need my help." Evan told himself. He looked at the aura of his shield. It was a bright red. It was almost maxed.
His kinetic pool reflected how full it was by the color. It started with darker colors and gradually came to peak at white. The easiest way he explained it was a rainbow but backwards. White being the color at the end of the process.
Evan pushed himself forward. The shifter noticed him coming as Olivia quickly made her way through.
"Annoying humans. Die!" Spikes shot out from all sides. The spikes barraged Olivia and Evan. Dust clouds puffed out as the shifter laughed.
"Kinetic Redirection: Stasis." Evan's lips let out. Olivia pushed through, revealing Evan had frozen the entire area of spikes. She had hit them without hesitation, creating a cloud of dust to trick the shifter into thinking she had actually got them.
Evan sprinted forward, watching the spikes drop around him as he quickly caught up with Olivia.
"I'll hold her for you." Olivia told him. He noticed her wincing in pain. He could see skin starting to dissolve off of her. Evan simply nodded and pushed forward.
The shifter barraged them with loads of attacks from all sides. Evan could feel the effects of his Negative growing. He was slowing. He would eventually be unable to move due to constant use of Kinetic Redirection.
The arena bent to the will of the shifter, who easily continued to barrage them and set them further back. Evan would combat this with freezing the stage and forcing the shifter to create new attacks.
"Wave of Spikes!" The Shifter shouted. Spikes flew up, shooting all around them as it began to shake the entire area.
'Shit, I can't freeze the entire field like this. It'll be unstable!' Evan thought. He releases his shield, watching it drop to the ground.
"Olivia! Come here!" Evan shouted. Olivia moved backwards, avoiding the wave of Spikes as it flew at her. Spikes Knicks at her as.she swatted and dissolved them away. "Barrier!"
Evan grabbed Olivia and watched as the shield turned into a large barrier. The spikes hit the barrier, shaking them around.
"Seems like you were hiding your cards." Olivia commented.
"How long do you have?" Evan asked.
"Two minutes, max."
"Alright, we'll hit her as hard as we can!"
"We won't outright kill her."
"We're not killing. We're containing her." Evan smiled.
"Ah, like this?" Olivia asked. Evan nodded. The shield barrier released and Olivia sprinted forward, Evan following behind her as another shield appeared around his wrist.
"You insolent bugs! Die!"
The two barraged the shifter in attacks. The shifter would use AoE to push them off, but Evan would just hold the kinetic energy and Olivia would dissolve it and send a punch straight towards the shifter.
Her outfit would slowly dissolve as she felt the stinging effect of Olivia's power, slowly but surely stopping the shifter from using Dark Matter to bend the earth to her will.
The shifter resorted to trying to defend herself with blocks and blows of her own. Olivia and Evan knew she wasn't suited for close combat. Olivia palm striked the shifter, stunning her. The shifter could feel her body becoming heavy again.
'W-what is this?' The shifter asked. Olivia pulled backwards as Evan slammed the shield against the shifter's body, pushing her into the ground.
"Shield to me!" Evan raised his free arm and the other shield flew and attached itself to his other wrist. He slammed the other shield down next to the shifter's head and smiled. "Double Barrier: Sustain."
Evan hopped away, watching the two shields wrap around the Shifter, barricading herself in the shield barrier. Evan slowly moved backwards. He could feel the Negative getting to him as another shield appeared around his right wrist.
"Did we do it?" Olivia asked. Her somewhat peeled face followed her eyes, looking at the barrier. Loud bangs started to come from the barrier. The barrier shifted forward. "Is it supposed to do that?"
"No." Evan answered truthfully. "Olivia I think we need to make another wall just in case–"
"ARGH!" The female shifter screamed as the barrier shattered. Shards flew and bounced on the ground as the earth trembled. Olivia raised her hands to try to stop her, but the shifter's willpower was fueled with anger. The earth shifted and slammed into Olivia, pressing her against the wall, blood spilling from her mouth and knocking her out.
"Olivia!" Evan shouted.
"Why do the small always try to prove they're capable and smart?!?" The shifter growled. Rocks and dirt flew around her in the air, growing sharp. "I'm gonna carve that body of yours into millions of pieces!"
Evan raised his shield, enlarging the shield to cover the front of his body.
'Argh, at this rate I might actually die before help gets here!' Evan grunted as sharpened dirt and stones slices at him. They pounded against the shield, growing his stored energy. Evan slid backwards as his armor tore. 'This is the difference between a B-rank and I… Agh… I need to protect myself and make sure Olivia's okay…!'
"Kinetic Expansion!" The kinetic energy shield shot outwards in all directions as the shifter shifted the earth to stop it from growing.
"No you don't!" The shifter shouted. The wall began to crack. Evan looked at his shaking hands.
"How much time left?" Evan asked.
"Forty-five seconds!" Tiffi answered. "Evan, what're you gonna do?" Evan took a gulp.
"You are a Trainor. We don't give up! When a wall comes our way, we smash it to bits!" Evan shouted. His body began to glow, radiating different colors as it spread across his body. The wall shattered, revealing the shifter.
"You will die!" The shifter shouted. A rush of stone and dirt flew forward at him like a wave of water. "Entomb!"
"You are a Trainor. What do Trainor's do best?" A male voice shouted loudly in his head.
"We're the best when it comes to AOE!" Evan shouted.
"We don't back down from an unfair fight!" The tall man in a business suit shouted. The man was the spitting image of Evan. His father, Ryan Trainor, was a wealthy man who gained a reputation as a businessman in construction. He was the brightest when it came to taking new materials of the New World and transforming it into durable and reliable structures that could withstand the strongest hits from himself.
Evan stood at attention as his father slowly circled around him. His father was a bit sad that puberty hadn't done his son a great deal in the height department. His mother was a part of that. She was short like Evan, but the woman was ferocious and kept Ryan in check. Evan knew his Father had it bad for Mom.
"I've created a multi-billion dollar business in creating the most durable materials in the world. We have the ability to fly thanks to the fusings of complex NW (New World) metals and creating planes that can fight back against the monsters in the sky." Ryan told his son.
Frankly, Evan knew this. His Father told this story to millions and millions of people. Why wouldn't he know about how they became rich?
"And now my son has an opportunity at the best Academy in the entire USA!" Ryan smiled. "You will be taking the test at the Academy in Capitol City. Do your best to train and do well to make the Trainor name proud."
