Villainous Zombie King (8)
Late at night, when all was quiet, Wang Xi and the others slept in the car outside. They cunningly tampered with the lock on the main gate, pretending it was malfunctioning, and trapped Song Xu Yi, the injured women, and Ye Shuiyu together.
If it were only Song Xu Yi, perhaps she would have fallen into their trap. However, by her side stood Ye Shuiyu, a cheat code personified.
“Xu Yi, watch me,” Ye Shuiyu’s eyes shimmered as she pushed the door, ready to go downstairs.
Song Xu Yi’s initial reaction was to reach out and stop Ye Shuiyu.
Although Ye Shuiyu appeared formidable, the number of enemies was overwhelming, and Song Xu Yi couldn’t help but worry.
But Ye Shuiyu ran too fast. By the time Song Xu Yi reacted, Ye Shuiyu had already descended several flights of stairs.
“Xu Yi,” Ye Shuiyu stood at the corner of the staircase, looking up at Song Xu Yi. The outside streetlight illuminated half of Ye Shuiyu’s beautiful face, casting a radiant and captivating glow, while the other half carried a hint of mysterious beauty. Song Xu Yi couldn’t quite describe the sensation it evoked, but an instinctive tremor ran through her.
Despite their respective strengths, where it should have been Song Xu Yi relying on Ye Shuiyu, an inexplicable feeling emerged within Song Xu Yi: Ye Shuiyu needed her.
Driven by an inexplicable impulse, Song Xu Yi descended the stairs and stood beside Ye Shuiyu.
“Thank you,” Song Xu Yi spoke softly, after a moment’s thought.
Ye Shuiyu looked at Song Xu Yi beside her and smiled happily.
That smile dissipated the conflicting emotions within her, and she once again transformed into the familiar, innocent, and pure-hearted Song Xu Yi knows.
“No need to thank me!” Ye Shuiyu held Song Xu Yi’s hand. “Xu Yi, I’m glad to do these trivial things for you.”
Song Xu Yi hesitated for a moment, not letting go of Ye Shuiyu’s hand, but she still wanted to correct Ye Shuiyu’s seemingly misguided perspective: “Shuiyu, you’re not doing these things for me. You do them because you’re a kind-hearted girl, because you want to…”
However, Ye Shuiyu seemed not to hear Song Xu Yi’s words. She raised her hand and made a shushing gesture towards Song Xu Yi.
Song Xu Yi instinctively retracted the words that were about to leave her lips and held her breath.
The broken lock silently opened, and Ye Shuiyu pulled Song Xu Yi out of the room.
After these past two days of interaction, Song Xu Yi believed she had grown accustomed to the extraordinary abilities displayed by Ye Shuiyu. However, when she saw those men lying unconscious, Song Xu Yi realized she had underestimated Ye Shuiyu’s strength.
Truly powerful mental strength could manipulate the entire situation without others noticing. Song Xu Yi didn’t know what the future held for the remaining individuals with extraordinary abilities, but in the presence of Ye Shuiyu, Wang Xi had no resistance whatsoever.
Facing Song Xu Yi’s astonished gaze, Wang Xi suddenly stood up stiffly, then walked to an empty space and released the elderly and children from within the space. Afterward, he collapsed once again, unconscious.
As the elderly and children fell out from the space, they instinctively huddled together. The elderly spontaneously shielded the children, expecting the usual onslaught from Wang Xi and his companions. However, to their surprise, silence enveloped the surroundings as the malicious thugs all fell to the ground…
“You’re free now,” they heard a gentle voice of a girl.
But another voice, cold and chilling, resonated next to her, evoking the deepest hatred buried within their hearts. “The time for revenge has come—”
One girl possessed an exquisite beauty, while the other exuded a captivating allure. Although their personalities seemed starkly different, when they stood together, an unexpected harmony emanated from them.
Even though everyone understood every word they said, the sudden arrival of happiness was too overwhelming. For a moment, everyone stared at each other, unable to grasp the meaning behind the girls’ words.
By the time the more alert individuals regained their senses, the two girls had already returned inside the door and closed it shut.
They had no idea what the two individuals inside the door were doing, nor did they have the luxury to pay attention. Their vengeful gazes were now fixated on the men lying unconscious before them…
In this era infested with the walking dead, the human heart was even more terrifying than the zombies. These strong men had physically taught them the principle of survival of the fittest.
But now, the tables had turned completely. The hatred and the torment they had endured for so long was ready to exact its revenge!
Yet, behind that closed door, an entirely different scene unfolded.
Song Xu Yi anxiously looked at the women tied to the chairs.
Some women were still unconscious, while others had darkened complexions, on the verge of turning into zombies. Among them, one was in the most severe condition, her cheeks drained of color, her eyes beginning to bloodshot, and veins popping on her forehead… Clearly, she had already transformed into a half-zombified state.
Although individuals in this state would typically become crazed and attack humans, for some unknown reason, this semi-zombified woman seemed to have encountered her natural enemy. She huddled in the chair, even displaying a hint of fear.
There was no more time to waste!
“Wait for me for ten minutes,” Song Xu Yi didn’t even know if her intuition was correct. After all, the notion of purifying the zombie virus seemed like something out of a fantasy. But in times like these, she had to try anything and everything.
Song Xu Yi clenched her teeth and touched the woman’s body.
She couldn’t describe the sensation, but as soon as her hand made contact with the woman, Song Xu Yi involuntarily shivered. An invisible flow of energy seemed to spread through her body, flowing from her hand into the woman’s form, painstakingly purifying certain cells that had been invaded…
At first, it was manageable, but controlling the flow of energy required tremendous effort. Song Xu Yi’s face gradually turned pale.
“What are you doing, Xu Yi?” Yè Shuiyu seemed to sense something amiss, her brow furrowing.
“I’m fine,” Song Xu Yi took a deep breath and reassured Ye Shuiyu, then closed her eyes again. Her complexion visibly paled, while the woman’s face, which had been turning black and approaching zombification, slowly started to regain its normal color. The bulging veins on her forehead also gradually subsided.
Ye Shuiyu bit her lip, her eyes filled with inner conflict, and an unprecedented sense of panic surged within her. She didn’t know whether she should pull Song Xu Yi away. If she were to intervene, she would surely anger her. However, Song Xu Yi’s condition seemed to be deteriorating…
Unnoticed by anyone, Ye Shuiyu’s body suddenly stiffened for a moment, and a hint of crimson flashed in the depths of her eyes.
When she raised her head again, though it was the same person, there was a noticeable change in Ye Shuiyu’s entire demeanor.
The curve of her lips turned cold and aloof, and her hand lightly traced along the slender neck of Song Xu Yi before hesitatingly retracting. She looked at Song Xu Yi with a hint of intrigue in her smile and said, “To possess such abilities, how interesting.”
Almost simultaneously, Song Xu Yi’s powers reached their limit. Facing Ye Shuiyu’s narrowed gaze, her body gave way and she collapsed towards Ye Shuiyu—soft and limp.
The next day, Song Xu Yi woke up to find herself on the second floor.
Lying in bed, her body ached as if it had been run over by a car. Song Xu Yi contemplated that these were probably the lingering effects of overexerting her abilities, but she didn’t pay it much mind.
What saddened Song Xu Yi was this: The woman she had purified of the zombie virus had regained consciousness, but due to Song Xu Yi’s limited powers, the other few women who had been infected by the virus turned into zombies and were brutally killed by their companions, their brains shattered and their remains cremated on the spot…
In such chaotic times, lives were as insignificant as grass and weeds.
But if only she had been stronger last night, perhaps she could have saved them!
Song Xu Yi felt an unprecedented sense of urgency to cultivate her abilities.
In her hand, she held the red crystal nucleus given to her by Ye Shuiyu, but it belonged to Ye Shuiyu, and Song Xu Yi had no intention of using it.
Following some cultivation techniques she had learned in her previous world to manipulate the flow of energy in her body capable of purifying the zombie virus, Song Xu Yi could sense that her meridians were widening, and her abilities seemed to have improved slightly, although she didn’t experience the same sense of fulfillment as when absorbing the crystal nucleus.
It was close to noon when Song Xu Yi finally woke up from her cultivation.
At that moment, she realized something strange: Ye Shuiyu had not appeared in her sight all morning!
Following the previous pattern, Ye Shuiyu would be a year older overnight. Could it be that the six-year-old Ye Shuiyu had learned independence and was no longer clingy?
With this thought in mind, Song Xu Yi initially believed that she would be happy if Ye Shuiyu wasn’t clinging to her anymore. However, almost instinctively, Song Xu Yi began searching for Ye Shuiyu in every direction.
As she passed through the living room, the elderly and children called out to Song Xu Yi, wanting to kowtow to her. Song Xu Yi struggled to stop their actions, and in the process, she learned the reason why the female ability users used to rely solely on Wang Xi and Ma Shouzhan.
The elderly person explained to Song Xu Yi the current situation in the capital city. After the rampant spread of the zombie virus, a renowned biologist named Yu Song solidified his position in the political arena. He seemed to have the ability to artificially induce people to become ability users. Many desperate individuals willingly sought refuge under Yu Song’s wing in the hope of becoming ability users.
Yu Song had now become a rising star in politics, challenging the authority of the previous rulers.
The reason why Wang Xi and his group deceived these female ability users into sacrificing themselves was simply because they wanted to preserve their own power and eventually join Yu Song.
No one mentioned the whereabouts of Wang Xi and his group, but the remaining bloodstains outside the door served as evidence of their fate.
Finally, Song Xu Yi found Ye Shuiyu huddled up in the car.
Almost immediately, Song Xu Yi noticed that something was off with Ye Shuiyu.
If we were to say that the pre-six-year-old Ye Shuiyu was pure and happy like a blank sheet of paper, then the current absent-minded Ye Shuiyu seemed to have a tinge of sorrow, accentuating her already stunning facial features even more.
“How did you end up like this, Shuiyu?” Almost as soon as Song Xu Yi spoke, Ye Shuiyu’s eyes turned red.
She tilted her head slightly, sniffled, and in Song Xu Yi’s eyes, there was a distinct shimmer of tears. “I’m scared!”
“Xu Yi, my mom is gone, and my dad has been drinking heavily, like he’s become a different person…”
“Xu Yi, will you also leave me quietly one day, just like mom?”
The author has something to say:
Goodnight, muah muah~
By the way, why have I been feeling so excited lately? It’s because I’m on a business trip to Guangdong! The warm-hearted people of Guangdong, with their heartfelt cries of “beauty,” have given this ordinary girl a tremendous boost of confidence.
Ah, don’t worry. Once I return home, I won’t be so inflated in a couple of days.
