Hours earlier-
The other players that had been in the hunting zone outside of the city of Raylock had been given a sudden notification.
~~~~~~~~~~
A world event has begun.
Radiant Wolf field boss has appeared.
Protect the city of Raylock or slay the beast.
Optional Objective: assist in the destruction of Raylock until the beast leaves.
~~~~~~~~~~
When this event was announced many players left the city walls to see what was happening.
From the woods they say a giant wolf as tall as a carriage approaching the city.
Because of the size of this beast they immediately felt worried since dying multiple times would result in lost levels.
In the city itself the representatives of the various gaming clans began to communicate with the leaders about what position should be taken.
War God and Shade were both leaving the city at that point to check what was occurring and what they saw left them with a bad taste in their mouths.
"So are we just letting this happen? If the city is gone then we cant really stay here."
Shade was looking at the giant wolf as players began to rush it.
"We need to organize our team, make sure Hope is around so we have our healer?"
War God was nodding at what Shade said and she just stood near the wall to observe.
"Get everyone ready, tell them to organize at the gate. If you see Belial get him here as fast as you can, we might need his magic."
She watched the players attack the wolf at random and begin to already take losses.
She suspected the other clans were doing the same as she was, observing the low levels try to fight the wolf.
The problem with low level players is that when numbers are used as a means of force they treat themselves like a hammer, a tool of brute force.
The issue with a hammer is that everything looks like a nail.
The low level players used numbers so often that they were not able to properly handle a real enemy nor did they have any real strategy.
The wolf seemed very capable as an enemy.
While surrounded it would howl, with a flicker of light the fur on its body would burst in blinding radiance.
The stunned and blinded player were easy to pick off by the fast strikes of the wolf.
War God watched as the wolf tore through the crowd of players sometimes two at a time and sometimes only one by one, by the time the last player fell it looked to have taken hardly 4% damage to its hp.
She laughed as she saw more rushing out, likely sent by the clans to try to force the boss's hp lower through erosion.
She watched as the groups got progressively stronger as the clan's sent more and more people out to wear it down.
Soon she saw the first lv100s going out to battle it and for the first time she saw real organizational power.
The battles were lasting longer than a minute as the clan leaders seemed to be directing the players more and more.
She could see signs of larger clans waiting just as she was and some seemed to be observing the other clans as much as they looked at the beast.
They heard a crowd of people.
Behind them a group was forming from the largest clan population in the area.
The clan was approaching them with weapons ready and some of their members began to cheer over having extra help.
War God knew otherwise.
She blocked another blow from the wolf and quickly turned to protect shade from behind as a sword almost took his head from his shoulders.
She had to block more attacks while this other clan apparently came to contest the boss.
With the heavy hitters of the clan distracted by different players the new party could attack uncontested.
The battle was very hard between the groups and many were falling due to the player killing.
That was when people began to hear the sound of screaming beasts.
People looked around and only saw beasts collapsing on the ground covered in black fire.
When the boss was lower it started to use its light based attacks more often and during one of those attacks War God saw a very familiar projectile.
From the sky were nova needles raining down upon this beast and when it looked up she did as well.
'Belial? Since when does he have wings?'
The beast chased him down and with the beams of light coming from its mouth it eventually struck his wing.
He hit the ground hard but continued to run away, when she saw it gaining on him she was shocked by her friend turning to face it.
His body began to twitch and burn with mana in her mana sense.
At certain points on his body she saw black fire with a green tint in the core begin to burn at it and she was afraid for him since she knew what that fire felt like.
She saw him raise his wings and his tail in a terrifying display while the mana infusing his body began to pulse.
After a loud roar from her friend she almost rushed over to help him and ignore the entire battlefield field... but then she saw it.
The flames on his body converging in the air as one giant ball, then another and another and dozens of them.
She saw the mana in his body drain until hardly any glow remained.
While the mana was being drained she saw the projectiles reshaping into needles just like his signature spells.
When the needles were fired they impacted the boss like a flurry of bullets from a machine gun.
The beast's body was torn apart by this and it collapsed to the ground with Belial falling at the same time.
Everyone was so stunned that they didn't even move, not even when hope ran over to him.
She was dragging him away when the system notification sounded.
~~~~~~~~~~
Congratulations!
Players have defeated the enemy threat to the city of Raylock and will be given the title "Defender of Raylock" as well as rewards for individual accomplishments.
~~~~~~~~~~
The thing that happened next was shocking for all.
The body of the wolf began to fall apart into dust which was streaming into Belial's unconscious body.
