"Are you lost, kid?"
Alexandra tilted her head back where the voice came from, their shadows cast over her and their height loomed over her. They were two people behind her, a male and a female. They look like they are in their mid-thirties and probably a couple. They look quite suspicious for me, she thought to herself and raised her guard, turning around to face them. She placed her hands behind her back, preparing herself in chanting a spell in case something happens.
Alexandra didn't respond and just stared at them, looking at them up and down as if she was judging their appearance. "Don't worry, we aren't harmless people. You got separated from your brother, right? We might help you find him," The female said in a gentle tone of voice while smiling at her, her eyes closed in the process as she bent down to her eye level. She placed her hands against her knees. Suspicions and doubts started to rise inside her.
"You remind us of our child, she went missing as if she vanished into thin air. I'm worried that it might happen to you too. We can't do anything since we're poor and hire someone to help and investigate."
"It may not look like it but we're married."
The man spoke as he looked at her, straight in the eye while he was smiling. There is something wrong with that smile and stare of his, she thought to herself. Her expression didn't change as her lips were pursed into a thin line. Her hand gripped her wrist behind her back, her nails digging deep into her skin and she knows that it will leave some marks. Alexandra took a small step back while still looking at them.
"What's wrong? You don't need to be so scared of us," The man said once again, still staring at her. It's just like the same with Sir Devan, that insane and disturbing palace wizard who managed to escape from the prison underground. Her heart was beating fast and it was harder for her to breathe, there was a throb in her head the longer she stared at the man's eyes but she can't look away. It feels like she was being wrapped around with vines, forcing her to stay put and just look at him straight in the eyes.
Alexandra's eyebrows furrowed as she narrowed her eyes down at them. They don't look like that are lying and they are actually kind towards her. They don't look dangerous at all and they were even offering to help her.
"Here, take my hand. I promise I will help you," The lady said while she held out her left hand, Alexandra stared at it for a few seconds.
However, only a dumb person would believe in them.
Her guts were screaming and telling her to run away, even her head that kept on throbbing was telling her to do so but her feet remained still on the ground and her hands were quivering as if something wants to come out of it.
"Why are you lying?"
Alexandra said in a low tone of voice that sounded like a whisper. The expression on her face became cold as soon as she spoke, the suffocating feeling was gone but her head was still throbbing in pain. The couple's expression changed and faltered for a moment before returning to its gentle yet confused one. "W-What do you mean? We just want to help you," The lady said and she saw her nudge the guy's waist with her elbow. Alexandra lifted her chin as a sinister and sadistic smile crept up to her lips.
"You don't have to pretend," Alexandra said, not taking her gaze away from them even though she took a few steps back and held out her hand. Showing her palm towards them before chanting a few words, "Cast and befall," A few layers of magic circles that glowed appeared in front of her palms and the couple widened their eyes before the man shielded the woman and himself with only his arms. That won't do. Even when she doesn't know any self-defense tricks and how to fight someone, she can still use spells and magic to protect herself.
"Pierce your enemies to death,
My arrows."
And a few flaming and burning arrows appeared in front of those glowing magic circles, she needs to be careful because if she didn't, she might burn this whole place down. This was a tier 2 spell, anyone could do this meaning even her could do it. However, this spell could kill a person like them, but she has no intention of doing so. Probably to scare or shoo them away. The sadistic smile on her face was gone as she only had a cold and serious look on her face, similar to her father and brothers.
"Fire."
One word out of her mouth and the arrows blasted forward in one swift motion. The man's eyes widened and he cursed and before he knew it, an arrow was already in front of his face and the sound of an explosion was heard. Dust rose and made a fog, Alexandra covered her nose and mouth as she fanned it away while walking towards them. The sound of her shoes clicking against the solid ground was the only thing heard. She stopped after a few steps and the fog disappeared like a gust of wind blew.
There she saw the two of them, standing still perfectly fine as the arrows didn't pierce and penetrate them at all. The woman was able to summon a barrier and shield themselves on time. She was able to react fast despite the arrows hurling at them at a fast speed. She continued walking. It's a wonder why no people still haven't come despite a loud sound of the explosion earlier and they are just walking past us. One of them must have surrounded us with a barrier that hides us and doesn't let anyone hear any sound coming from here.
They must be pretty strong opponents. If I don't run away now, I'll be in danger again.
"You two…"
She stopped a few steps away from them.
"…are kidnappers, right?"
"How did you know?"
"I'm not stupid."
The woman just chuckled, amused before Alexandra spoke once again. "You two said that you are married but I don't see any rings in your fingers, I can understand that if you sold your ring because you two are poor but looking at your necklace and the pendant, I could tell that it's expensive. How come you were able to buy a necklace when you two are poor? Besides, I didn't even talk to you earlier. How did you know that I was looking for my brother? Unless you followed me around the whole time."
"It seems like we have encountered a hard one."
Alexandra showed that sadistic smile once again, thanks to the lighting of the place, it made her expression colder.
"You have been eyeing me for a while, right?"
No wonder I can feel someone staring at me as I walked around. It was much more different than the intense one, she thought to herself. They must have been following me around and waited for me to come here before cornering me, this is a dark alleyway and nobody could see us thanks to that barrier they set up. Really, why do I always encounter some sort of trouble?
"You're an intelligent and beautiful girl. Aside from that, you also know how to use magic. You look like a noble and your eyes are really pretty. You will be sold at a high price and we will earn lots of money. You're a rare gem. Maybe after we took you, we will hold an auction."
Her voice was low and serious in the end. Staring at her as if she was an interesting thing that they can play with it.
"How amusing, what about your child? Was that also a lie?"
"No, I don't have a child and we aren't married. However, I have a sibling. A boy around your age, to be exact."
"Was he also taken away and sold that's why you do the same thing to get he back?"
"It's the other way around."
Alexandra thought for a moment before she realized what she was trying to say, her eyes widened and she was taken aback. The woman giggled, her gentle expression from before was replaced. Stylistically warped in a way that depicts the evilness of her character and she spoke, her voice was slightly high-pitched, an amused tone. It was like a melody but a scary and evil one.
"I was the one who sold him off."
Alexandra was about to say something but the lady cut her off.
"He was completely like you, he fought back and resisted. However, I still succeeded. I have to knock him out though just to do so."
This lady is insane, she is quite similar to Sir Devan. Their expressions, their tone of voice, everything was oddly similar to him. The old man's words from before rang inside her head once again:
"—Don't be fooled just because they showed you a little bit of kindness. They will deceive you just to get whatever they want. Humans are foolish and greedy creatures, after all."
She gritted her teeth before she held out her palm once again. At least, she should try to distract them so that she can run away and report them. After all, she already knows what they look like. It's only a matter of time before this reaches the palace and they would get arrested then the kids they took would be rescued.
As she was about to chant something, the lady shouted as if she was ordering the guy beside her to go. "Stop her, Jerome!" And as if on cue, the man dashed and hurled forward. He suddenly appeared in front of her with his fist aiming at her face and she evaded it but almost stumbled yet she still managed to cast a spell but it's just a weak one as she was distracted ad trying to balance herself. A ball of fire appeared in her hands and she hurled it towards him.
However, he was fast enough to react and bent down as he decided to kick her hard in the stomach after. Sending her flying backward and her back hit the wall. She could feel and hear something crumble and crack behind her.
It's just like back when she had a car accident that caused her death and she woke up as a baby in unfamiliar surroundings. She coughed out some blood and some trailed down her mouth as she slid down the wall, making her slump on the ground. This is too much for a child's body. Don't they have any mercy at all?
She heard footsteps and the two were now standing in front of her. The lady crouched down and slapped her cheek harsh but she was too distracted by the pain on her back. She could hear them speaking and talking with each other. "You kicked her way too hard that she coughed out blood. You could have knocked her out in a different way, not like this. You damaged our goods, what if she gets a broken back or something? It would be hard to sell her off even though she's a gem."
"Sorry, I had to. She was aiming a fireball at me and my instincts just took over but I'm sure that she won't have one, the kick wasn't that hard. Besides, we have a healer, right? He can heal broken bones and broken backs in just one spell."
"You're right but your kick wasn't that hard? There's even a small crack on the wall. If you added a little bit more of strength, you could have killed her. How will you tell the boss about it?"
"Right, sorry."
"Anyways, what took you so long earlier? Did you not even use your magic or that spell that will make someone faint if you look at them directly in the eyes? This couldn't have happened."
"I did but somehow, it wasn't working against her and it Skeeps on backfiring against me. My head was throbbing but I have to endure it. It's like someone was protecting her, like a soldier inside her head or something."
"What are you saying? Ah, we have to go now."
She felt her body being carried and her vision became blurred as her eyelids became heavy and everything became dark all of a sudden.
