Chapter 36
Pei Xin nervously followed Lu Huai to the garage.
When they reached the car, Lu Huai reached out to open the door of the passenger seat, signaling Pei Xin to get in.
Pei Xin found it hard to believe, but Lu Huai remained calm — as if this was how it should be.
“Thank you.” Pei Xin softly spoke and got into the car.
Lu Huai helped her close the car door, then went to the driver’s seat.
Pei Xin carefully observed Lu Huai from the corner of her eyes. The latter was really good-looking. He was tall and had a good figure ratio. He could wear many styles of clothing and they would look good on him. He had thick eyebrows, thin lips, and the most alluring pair of eyes. Should one look carefully, they would see the universe dotted with stars in their eyes.
Pei Xin’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. She would have never dared to look at him this way in the past because of Lu Li. Today, however, she was taking that chance. Somehow, his eyes remind her of her son’s.
‘Wait… What if what happened six years ago… Impossible.’ Pei Xin shook her head and cast aside the thoughts. How could a person like Lu Huai do such a thing? Everyone knew that he was not the kind of man to sleep around. It must be a coincidence.
Lu Huai had long noticed Pei Xin’s gaze. He could not help but frown when he saw the series of expressions on her face change.
While Pei Xin was occupied with her thoughts, she felt him suddenly lean over. Immediately after, Lu Huai’s side profile appeared in front of her. She could not help but shudder from the proximity.
Lu Huai didn’t start the car after getting in because Pei Xin hadn’t fastened her seatbelt. She seemed lost in thought and was cautious of her actions. He originally planned to do it himself if she didn’t make a move first. Thinking of what Xu Nuo had just said on the phone, he had no choice but to help her personally.
Pei Xin watched as Lu Huai grabbed her side of the seatbelt and quickly reacted. “Oh. Thank you, I can do it myself.”
Pei Xin’s skin was fair, and her face was flushed red. She kept blaming herself for zoning out. How could she forget to fasten her seatbelt? What if Lu Huai thought that she was doing it on purpose? Would he think that she was seducing him? Was he going to judge her for having such a messy life?
Pei Xin didn’t understand why she was overthinking… Maybe it was because she wanted to preserve her dignity in front of Lu Huai.
Lu Huai’s expression didn’t change much. He naturally let go of the seatbelt and handed it to Pei Xin. Then, he drove away from the Lu family and headed to the hospital.
She immediately jumped out of the car when they arrived. She only calmed down when a chilly night breeze blew past her flushed cheeks, giving her a wake-up call.
“What did they say about Ling Lin?” Pei Xin looked at Lu Huai and asked.
Lu Huai put his hands in his pockets and said, “We should head in first.”
Pei Xin’s uneasiness intensified when Lu Huai’s words were cryptic and unreliable. However, she did not ask any more questions and followed the man into the hospital.
“CEO Lu, Ms. Pei, you’re here.” Xu Nuo was standing at the door of the emergency room. When she saw the two of them coming over, she quickly came over to welcome them.
Lu Huai nodded. “How is he?”
“We couldn’t find a matching blood type in the blood bank. We’re waiting for the supply from another hospital.”
Pei Xin listened to their conversation and finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. “What’s wrong with Ling Lin?”
Xu Nuo looked at Lu Huai. After the latter nodded, she said, “Ling Lin’s head was hit too hard… He has a concussion.”
When he said this, Pei Xin staggered backward as she covered her mouth in shock.
“It seems that his wounds did not close in time, causing him to lose a lot of blood. Although it has stopped now, he is in desperate need of a blood transfusion. However, his blood type is very special so the hospital does not have enough to save him.”
Pei Xin took a deep breath. She couldn’t imagine what kind of pain her son was going through.
“I’ll give him mine. I’m his mother. He can use my blood.”
“What’s your blood type?” Xu Nuo knew that even if they were biological parents, their blood type might not be the same.
