Karma is a mysterious thing. Because of Cernun’s Karma Reading ability, he discovered your unique past and memories, and he even tested you to confirm what he saw. After you revealed the grim future, Cernun decides to take action to change his fate.

The first step is to reinforce the seal around the island chain and make sure that Agent of Calamity, the Anglerfish of Doom, will not be released no matter what.

Gather 1,000 spirit stones or 1,000 corrupted spirit stones. You can bring both if you can. The time limit is a month as Cernun will be mobilizing his army soon.

Quest Objective: Gather either 1,000 spirit stones or 1,000 corrupted spirit stones and hand them to Cernun.

Time Limit: 30 Days

Failure Condition: You run out of time, or Agent of Calamity is freed.

Quest Rewards: A new regressor class skill.

Failure Penalty: Cernun will postpone his mobilization, and his favorability toward you will decrease.

Easy Solution – Seek an audience with Yuan Shao.

Normal Solution – Go dungeon diving.

– Estimated Time of Completion: 15 Days.

– Extra rewards from monster drops. You may find extra dungeon cores there.

Difficult Solution – Hunt field bosses or roaming elite monsters. 

– Estimated Success Chance: 60%

– Estimated Time of Completion: 25 Days.

– Fewer rewards than dungeon diving, but you can earn legendary items from one of the bosses.

Impossible Solution – Rob Spirit Stone Mine. 

– Estimated Success Chance: Unable to determine

– Estimated Time of Completion: Unknown.

– Highest rewards from all choices, but you will offend Emperor Yuan Shao if he finds out.

– You will have a fortuitous encounter if you manage to complete a certain task in the mine.

More info showed up at the bottom of the quest detail. The new regressor’s skill, [Foresight], worked similarly to the unknown instinct. Now, they seemed to stack the effect and provided more hints and solutions to the quests.

Although the regressor’s skill was as good as the broken instinct skill, Xiaomao wasn’t happy with it as it revealed that he was a regressor in real life. By now, the game company’s moderators might have discovered his secrets, and it would come back to haunt him in the future.

‘I hope the game mods, devs, and admins won’t harass me any time soon. Well, if they should pay attention to someone, they should be observing Hiiro Narukami’s character right now. I’m sure his character is even more broken than mine.’

Cernun grinned as he figured out what Xiaomao was troubled about, “That’s two questions in one. How cunning. Oh, well. A promise is a promise.”

The crocodile’s expression changed. He gave Xiaomao a meaningful look.

“Karma, munya?”

Xiaomao frowned and reread the quest description. Indeed, it mentioned something about karma, but it didn’t elaborate.

Cernun explained, “I’ll add a little service. Everyone in the universe is born with a karma knot that ties with their karmic souls. By interacting with someone else, you sow karma with the person you interact with. Karma cannot be touched, sensed, or seen by normal means. But when god permits you to access it, you can read, touch, and interact with the karma of others. That comes to the answer to the question. I can read karma, and I can read everyone’s past, present, and a fraction of countless possible futures. I also tamper the karma to unlock one of your many potentials.”

“So, you found my secrets because of karma, munya?”

“Exactly. To be honest, I’m shocked. I didn’t expect to find a time traveler. Oh, whoops. That’s more than one question already.”

Cernun laughed and flickered his tongue like a monitor lizard, “It’s time for you to leave. I have something else to do. Unlike you, I only have two years to live.”

A strong gale blew Lucky, Shepherd, and Xiaomao away from the forest. The trio was sent flying. But when they were about to fall and hit the beach, a wind cushion appeared and saved them.

“Thank you, sir. I’ll come back with the spirit stones for you!”

A strong wind breezed from the forest toward the beach as if Cernun had acknowledged the pledge.

Xiaomao turned around and led the group back to the boat. After getting on the boat, they departed toward the next destination.

“To Siren City, munya!”

On the boat, Xiaomao stared at his status panel in a daze while he was eating blue-named fish to boost his status points.

Xiaomao’s status was no longer something that a level 50 UR character should have. It belonged to a UR character in the level 90s range.

As Xiaomao wasn’t paying attention to upgrades and new skills during the conversation with Cernun, he reread his status twice so that he wouldn’t miss the changes.

The new sub-class was not surprising. Xiaomao was aware that once a character had at least 100 points in any elemental spiritual root, that character could obtain a novice mage or priest class of that element randomly. However, for players, it only worked for the first element. Afterward, they had to find the right NPC to unlock the class for them.

As for supporting characters, such as Shepherd, they required a mentor to unlock the sub-class and class skills. They didn’t get to enjoy the auto-learn perk like the players.

However, one thing attracted Xiaomao’s attention the most. His character’s rarity changed from Ultra-Rare to Legendary.

Before the regression, players could upgrade their character’s rarity by visiting any Pangu Church to take baptism. After the upgrade, their characters would obtain additional allocable status points, spiritual root points, and bonus attribute points. However, by doing so, they would get stuck as a member of Pangu Church.

There were other ways to upgrade a character’s rarity. Chaos Demon God’s followers simply needed to consume a corrupted spirit stone first, and they would be able to sense the apostle’s whereabouts. Once they met the apostle, they could upgrade their character the same way Pangu Church did.

However, for Chang’e and Cernun’s faction, Xiaomao had no idea how. Fortunately, Cernun did it for him.

‘I guess I need to rely on Cernun to upgrade my skills, spells, and class now. But dammit. I forgot to ask him to upgrade my maxed skills.’

Xiaomao grumbled as he was too absorbed in the game lore and forgot about what he needed to do. He swore that he would come back within a month and upgrade all his maxed skills.

But as Xiaomao was lamenting his forgetfulness in his mind, Magdalene jumped off from Shepherd’s shoulder and sat on Xiaomao’s head.
