Chapter 84 – Cat Dad’s Unexpected Encounter

Strangely, the butler didn’t point out to Comet that he had found Xiaomao and the gang. He averted his eyes, pretending to wait for Comet’s instruction. However, he secretly gestured for Xiaomao’s group to wait there.

Xiaomao caught the hint. He gestured to his crew to wait. While he was at it, he rubbed his eyes and rechecked the exclamation icon above Bush’s head.

‘Quest? Really?’

Xiaomao hesitated if he should talk to the butler even though he had a quest for him. Not all quests in RPG games rewarded players as some could be traps from the developers.

But after staring at Bush’s face for a while, he noticed that he looked like someone with a funny name.

That NPC was an instructor from Seaside Town’s adventurer guild, whom Xiaomao had beat with a wok. Xiaomao managed to register with the adventurer guild after that, but he didn’t know what happened to Harry afterward.

After Comet and the maids walked down the stairs, Bush approached Xiaomao and whispered.

“You there. You can come out.”

Xiaomao revealed himself. Although nervous, Xiaomao tested Bush.

“Are you Harry Cox’s relative, munya?”

“I’m his father.”

“O-Oh.”

Bush snickered, “Actually, he wrote to me and told me about you. He said that he was beaten by a level 1 catopus with a wok. But now that I’m looking at you, you’re not half bad. No wonder that kid got schooled.”

Bush put back on his shirt and tuxedo jacket. Within five seconds, he restored his uniform.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Bush Cox, an agent of the Yuan Empire. My job is to locate and collect proofs of evil syndicates in disguise, such as this town. Well, that comes to this situation.”

Bush turned to the stairs to the basement area. He let out a sigh, “As I’m currently working for Tupeer on the surface, I can’t make obvious moves against him. I can’t access that underground level either because of this.”

Bush pointed at his ankle, which was attached by a black strap and a small box. He explained, “This is a device that all maids and servants here have. Everybody has a different level of authorization. A few can enter Tupeer’s room, while several of them can’t even go to the second floor. In my case, my area of access is limited to the first floor.”

“Why don’t you take that thing off, munya?”

“I will explode.”

Xiaomao had a ton of questions about how Bush allowed himself to be put in this situation, but he let the old man lead the conversation. He believed that he might reveal the mysterious quest content soon.

“Since I can’t enter the storage area, can you do me a favor? I’m searching for Tupeer’s ledger and documents about his illegal deal with Pangu Church. If you can help me, I’ll teach you a skill.”

Bush Cox’s Undercover Mission

Bush Cox is one of many undercover agents from the Yuan Empire. His current mission is to investigate the illegal activities of Bit Tupeer, who allegedly smuggled illegal substances from an unknown source to the empire. He already secured enough evidence, but he lacked the account books of Bit Tupeer to pinpoint his accomplices.

Mission Objective: Explore the mansion and find Tupeer’s hidden ledger.

Failure Condition: You or your ally are discovered.

Mission Reward: A level-100 skill book.

Failure Penalty: Bush will be very disappointed in you.

– Tupeer’s safe box on the third floor contains the list of his accomplices, the contact list of his customers, and the recipe of Mazinger Poison.

– Completed Mazinger Poison is in the basement’s storeroom together with potion crates.

After you collect everything, find Bush Cox at Siren City. He will be waiting for you there.

Shepherd and Magdalene were in charge of cracking the safe box of Tupeer on the third floor. Lucky was assigned to the library and was given the instructions to find the hidden room. As for Xiaomao, he followed the maids and Comet to the underground floor.

Bush Cox gazed at them for a moment before he turned to the front door. He walked out of the mansion and knelt on one knee. After taking a deep breath, he cut the strap and threw it toward the mansion while he kicked the ground and dashed forward.

Bush didn’t lie. The strap box exploded.

However, after the explosion, curtains and rugs caught on fire.

Bush gazed at the burning lobby of the mansion from afar. He lowered his head and bowed toward the entrance to the basement.

“I’m so sorry, kitty, but I was ordered to burn this place down to the ground whenever I have a chance. If you truly succeed, I’ll compensate you. For now, I can only hope that you can survive.”

Bush brought out a paper and wrote a note. He folded it into a crane and slipped a catnip branch inside. Then, he tossed it to a flower field before he vanished.
