Chapter 124 – Cat Dad in Pangu Church’s Headquarters Dungeon (1)
Curious, Xiaomao and his subordinates observed the situation. Passing-by players also gathered to see the commotion.
The beggar-like boy shattered the restraints. He pointed his palm at the injured soldier, and the weapon in the soldier’s hand was pulled toward the boy.
Meng Xin grabbed the long sword. He turned toward the church and pointed his sword at someone inside.
“Go tell your master. This Samsara God bows to no one, especially that loser Pangu!”
RUMBLE
As soon as Meng Xin mentioned Pangu’s name, the sky darkened. Black clouds gathered and transformed into a thunderstorm.
BANG
A lightning bolt struck Meng Xin, dealing over 100,000 damage!
“AAAAHHH!!”
The young boy screamed.
BANG
BANG
As if Heaven hated Meng Xin, more lightning bolts repeatedly struck him. After five hits, the boy collapsed and fell unconscious.
A group of soldiers surrounded Meng Xin. They pressed the boy to the ground as they put a new set of restraints on him. While systematically dragging Meng Xin into the church, one of them kicked the old slave in the gut and seized him by the hair.
“Stop resisting, slave! You should be honored that you get to baptize at our church and become an official priest!”
The old man yelled, “I don’t want to become a priest! Let my grandson go!”
“SHUT UP!”
SMACK
The knight slapped the old man with his steel gauntlet.
The elder’s mouth became bloody. His red saliva dripped while he cried in despair and pain.
The onlookers had dark expressions. Some drew their weapons, wanting to help the poor old man. Unfortunately, they didn’t dare to provoke the local NPCs as they were afraid of criminal penalties and the influence of the Yuan Empire.
The paladins sneered at the crowd of players. They took their time and dragged the old man into the church.
.
Peter, John, and Lucky’s expression were distorted because of anger and disgust. They looked at their master, asking for permission to intervene with their look.
Xiaomao didn’t pay attention to his subordinates. Instead, his bloodshot eyes fixated on the elder’s name.
Bush Cox, Level 150
The elder was actually the butler in Bit Tupeer’s mansion. However, he appeared here as a weak old man, which Xiaomao didn’t understand why.
He frowned and glanced at the knight, who hit the elder.
Pangu Church Paladin, Level 180
Something didn’t make sense here. Although the soldiers were stronger than Bush Cox, that butler shouldn’t be this helpless. In addition, the elder might not be Meng Xin’s real grandfather because of their different surnames.
‘That man said he was a spy, right? Is he trying to do something silly here?’
Xiaomao was amused. Since he had an unfinished quest with Bush Cox, he decided to approach the paladins.
Instead of talking to them, Xiaomao turned to his subordinates and ordered them.
“Book hotel rooms and wait for me there. Stay there and wait for me, munya. We’re having fun tonight!”
Lucky sensed the intense gaze of Xiaomao and had a shiver running down her spine. She nodded and closed her thighs, holding back her excitement and anticipation.
The two men glanced at the fidgeting gnoll girl and looked at each other. They had a wry smile and shook their heads.
The trio explored the city. After the gang had left, Xiaomao disappeared from the crowd’s sight and vanished into the church’s building.
Upon getting inside the church, a game window appeared in front of Xiaomao.
<Your Quest, Bush Cox’s Undercover Mission, has been updated.>
.
Bush Cox’s Undercover Mission, Continuation
The so-called undercover agent of the Yuan Empire seems to be investigating shady things that Pangu Church’s paladins and priests have been doing behind the curtain.
Although Bush Cox’s job is none of your business, the Pangu Church is still the enemy of Chaos Demon Goddess and the Mermaid Kingdom. If you give the agent a helping hand, you will contribute to the Mermaid Kingdom’s cause and earn hefty rewards.
Trigger Conditions: Accepted Bush Cox’s Undercover Mission Quest and be on a friendly term with the Mermaid Kingdom.
Mission Objective: Infiltrate the Pangu Church’s headquarters and find any illegal activity.
Failure Condition: You or Bush Cox’s cover is blown.
Mission Rewards: A level-100 skill book, Contribution EXP, unknown.
Failure Penalty: You will become the enemy of the Pangu Church and the Yuan Empire.
[?????? Instinct]: The keys to this quest are Meng Xin, the baptize ritual, and Bush Cox. Find them all, and everything will be a cakewalk. Also, avoid fighting anyone underground until the ritual starts.
[Foresight]: The baptize ritual will be held on the underground level. The passage is hidden behind a bookshelf in the library. The key locations of this quest are as the followings;
– The Library’s hidden passageway to the underground level is behind the 3F bookshelf. Press the left breast of a magical girl’s figurine on the shelf to move the shelf.
– Bush Cox and Meng Xin are being dragged toward the B5 floor. If you intercept the paladins before they can reach there, you will fail the mission. Let them reach their destination and wait for the key figures to arrive.
– B1, B2, and B3 belong to Pangu Church’s hidden dungeon. All monsters are failed experiment subjects. If possible, don’t kill them.
– B4 is your treasure trove, but you can’t access it until you get a certain item from a certain figure.
– B5 is the deepest floor underground. Wait there for surprises, and don’t act out.
.
Xiaomao appreciated the quest details and hints. The foresight skill was so broken that it felt like a walkthrough.
After getting the hints, Xiaomao sneaked into the church and followed the group of paladins, who were dragging Bush Cox and Meng Xin to the inner area of the church.
Behind the praying room were two doors, which linked to the west wing and the east wing. The group opened the east wing door and crossed the walkway toward the adjacent building. However, when they crossed the door, a blue force field appeared and blocked Xiaomao’s path, before the door closed by itself.
CLICK
Not only was it automatically closed, but an unknown force also locked it.
‘Crap!’
CLICK
The front door of the church was automatically locked as well. Then, the bright light bulbs on the ceiling were off.
Just like that, the building was dark. Only faint rays of sunlight shone through the colorful windows of the church, but they didn’t illuminate the interior.
Xiaomao regretted that he didn’t latch onto the group as he was afraid of being detected. He turned to the other door to the west.
‘Fine. Puzzle quest, right? I don’t know anything about the building, but I’ll find the way to the library!’
The catopus hopped toward the west gate. He slightly opened the door, peeking inside.
Beyond the west gate was a passageway to the west wing of the church building. Fortunately, no force field or barrier was here.
Xiaomao slipped through the gap between the doors and sneaked inside.
CLICK
Again, the door shut itself and locked behind him. A blue force field appeared, preventing others from following Xiaomao.
The catopus looked at the defense mechanism of the church. He had a bad feeling about this.
‘I should have learned some trap-disarming skills.’
Retreating was no longer an option. Xiaomao proceeded further.
Upon entering the west wing of the building, he came across a bright and long hallway. Proceeding ahead, Xiaomao noticed several opened wooden doors.
Xiaomao peeked inside the first room of the hallway.
In the room, teenagers were sitting at their desks, listening to a priest’s lecture. They faced the other side of the room and didn’t notice a transparent fur ball outside the door.
Curious, Xiaomao climbed the door’s ledge and listened to the class.
“There are three major worlds in the universe – The World of Heroes, the World of Cultivators, and the World of Chaos. We belong to the World of Chaos, which is a battleground between our savior, Pangu, and the evil Chaos Demon Gods. Currently, Chaos Demon Gods’ apostles roam the land and occupy most of the northern continents. Look at page 4 to see the map of our world.”
Hearing about the world’s map, Xiaomao climbed the ceiling and looked down, checking the map in a student’s textbook.
When Xiaomao saw the world map, he almost complained out loud.
It was incorrect.
In the textbook, the mainland of the Yuan Empire was the largest continent, located at the center of the world.
The world map that Xiaomao knew was not like this. The Yuan Empire was a small continent in the east, and there were six larger continents to the west and south.
To the north, the archipelago of Cernun and the Mermaid Kingdom was there. However, the textbook marked them as cursed land with black color and included them as the territory of the Yuan Empire.
“As you can see in the picture, the black areas in the world are cursed lands, corrupted by Chaos Demon Gods and their apostles. Our paladins are trying their best to defeat all monsters there and reclaim our land. You must get stronger and help our people defeat the evil monsters.”
Xiaomao rolled his eyes as he heard enough. The priest was brainwashing the young students, turning them into pawns of the Pangu Church to fight Cernun and the Mermaid Kingdom in the future.
He had the urge to kill the priest. Unfortunately, he couldn’t afford to expose himself now.
Xiaomao sneaked away and left the classroom. He proceeded further down the hallway, searching for a way to access the east wing.
