Chapter 195 – Cat Dad’s New Evolution Material

“You know, we’re quite lucky to be in the third server. The second server is full of danger, and the first one is monopolized by one player. Here, we can happily farm PACTs and gold coins without worrying about unforeseen incidents.”

Cai Zhong, a former red-name PKer who was eaten by Cernun, got respawned and returned to Venea as a regular player. He was together with his crew, having a beer party in a tavern after a long day of grinding.

Currently, Cai Zhong had turned a new leaf. As his death wiped out his negative karma, he played the game normally and managed to upgrade his character to a rare grade. His current level reached 109.

His friends were also happy that they could start over. The adventure was more entertaining than sailing in the middle of the ocean, looking for prey that rarely showed up.

“Right, boss. World Three is peaceful. I like it here.”

“Yes, boss. Screw the world events and main scenario quests. We’re going to farm items and get some cash. Leave those competitive scenes to those edgy try-hard nerds.”

Cai Zhong laughed, “You’ve said it! That’s right. We’re damn casual. Everybody earns $500 today. That’s all we need to know! CHEERS!”

“CHEERS!”

The group laughed and chugged the beer.

BOOM

Suddenly, a building across the street erupted and caught on fire. The group spat their beer and looked toward the saloon doors.

An ugly old hag crawled out of the burning building. Her robe and body were in flame while her HP dropped by 10%.

The next second, an ice spike emerged from the ground and pierced through her legs, immobilizing her to the spot. A green gas appeared out of nowhere and covered the witch’s body. Then, strange abnormal status icons appeared on her head.

Cai Zhong stared at the old witch. He ignored his beer-soaked face, which his friends had spat their beer on. He raised his beer mug and took a sip. The others also drank the remaining beer in their mugs and watched the chaos.

“MU-NYA-NYA!”

They heard the high-pitch voice of someone from the sky, but they couldn’t see him. The next moment, a large fireball fell on top of the old witch, dealing 150,000 damage.

“Damn! 150,000 damage!”

“Must be a fight between NPCs. It happens a lot these days.”

“Yeah, I heard the Pangu Church and the Yuan Empire fall out. They must be fighting.”

The men shrugged and turned to the bartender.

“Boss! Five more beers!”

“Coming right up!”

The crowd in the tavern ignored the battle, minding their own business.

RUMBLE

A thousand energy swords rained down from the sky and pierced through the hag’s head, chest, arms, and legs. Each strike caused no less than 100,000 damage!

After the sword rain, the hag’s HP dropped to zero. Then, her corpse exploded a hundred items, which flew to the sky.

“Oh, damn. That’s a lot of items.”

“Sure is.”

The boys giggled and fought their friends for the newly-served grilled squid and a bowl-worth of chicken nuggets. They laughed and enjoyed their little party.

After dealing the finishing blow to Margaret, Xiaomao collected the loot and admired his new spells, which he had just used.

Ice Lance (Maxed Mastery)

This advanced spell can be deadly in the hands of a water mage or an ice mage. A mage with good control can create an ice lance from anywhere in a radius of 100 meters and strike its enemy at any angle. Imagine being attacked from a blind spot out of nowhere…

Spell Type: Active, Single

Rarity: Super Rare

Requirement: 1,500 Water Spiritual Roots or 1,000 Ice Spiritual Roots, Level 120

Class Restriction: Any Mage

Cost: 2,000 MP

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Effect (1): Create an ice lance anywhere in the radius of 100 meters from the caster. Can be fired at any target, depending on the caster’s will. Deal 100% magic damage and freeze the target for five seconds.

Effect (2): If the ice lance causes damage to the target, inflicts an abnormal status [Hypothermia].

*[Hypothermia]: The person with this abnormal status suffers 50% additional damage if hit by ice element attacks.

Blade Hurricane (Mastery Maxed)

Gate of Babylon? Unlimited Blade Work? If you love those abilities, this spell is for you! Summon 100 energy swords and blades in the sky and slice your foes to pieces with the power of the wind!

Spell Type: Active, AOE

Rarity: Super Rare

Requirement: 1,500 Wind Spiritual Root, Level 150

Class Restriction: Any Mage

Cost: 50,000 MP

Cooldown: 10 minutes

Effect (1): Create 100 wind blades or wind swords to attack your foes. Each deals 100% magic damage upon hit. After it is used, it disappears.

Effect (2): Create 100 wind blades/swords to orbit around you as your shields. The energy blades/swords will automatically parry physical attacks that come your way. Upon making a contact, the energy sword/blade will disappear. One energy blade/sword cannot block any attack that can inflict more damage than the caster’s 100% magic damage.

Both spells proved to be useful as expected of the super-rare grade, especially the Blade Hurricane. Xiaomao could potentially deal about 10 million in damage if he focused the attack on one target.

As for the ice lance, it was a spammable crowd-control spell as it could slow down his enemies, and it had a short cooldown.

Even though the MP consumption increased by a lot, Xiaomao had no issue with it since his character’s stats were similar to a field boss.

There were other spells, but Xiaomao hadn’t tested them yet since most of them were AOE-based. He didn’t want to cause too much damage to this town and spook the hidden Pangu’s followers.

But that wasn’t the only thing that Xiaomao was satisfied with. His eyes glanced at the newly obtained evolution material’s detail, which was as useful as the others.

It was another orb-like object, but it shone like a spirit stone.

Cathulhu Essence Core

This essence core was found inside a cathulhu’s corpse. It contains remnant energy of the predecessors and the dead cathulhu. Humans and any non-catopus race cannot hold Cathulhu Essence Core for more than a minute, or they will be cursed to death by the Chaos Seraphim Progenitor.

Item Type: Evolution Material

Rarity: Ultra Rare

Effect: By keeping the Cathulhu Essence Core in your inventory, you will obtain the following effects:

– If you are not a catopus or a cathulhu, your HP and MP will be decreased by 10% per second until it reaches zero. Upon death, you will lose 10% of your permanent stats. Incurable.

– If you are a catopus or a cathulhu, all skills and spell cooldown are decreased by 50%.

– If you are a catopus or a cathulhu, all water spells have no cooldown.

– If you are a catopus or a cathulhu, racial skills, racial spells, and water-element spells don’t consume MP or Qi.

– If you are a catopus or a cathulhu, every item that drops from monsters, players, or NPCs that you killed will be automatically collected and stored in a special void that only you can access. You can freely transfer the items from the void to your inventory, but you cannot transfer items from your inventory to the void. Can hold an unlimited number of items.

NOTE: You cannot keep this item in your premium backpack, warehouse, or store inventory. This item is guaranteed to drop from your body if you died.

If this was not overpowered enough, Xiaomao had no idea what overpowered items could be.

Most evolution items so far were heavily leaned toward status growth and safety. However, this one buffed his offensive power.

Zero spell cooldown gave Xiaomao countless ideas and inspirations. In the future, he could simply spam ice lance spell to oblivion, or he could add a couple more ice or water-based spells to his arsenal.

Still, the 50% cooldown reduction was no joke. It applied to all of Xiaomao’s status-gain skills, including his ultimate skill. Forced Submission and Dungeon Domain’s 30-day cooldown was dropped to 15, which was a significant reduction. As for the Providence Song, he could use it twice a day instead of once.

Xiaomao stopped playing around and returned to his island. His experiment today was done.

Upon arrival, Xiaomao checked the time.

11:30 AM

It was close to the appointment time. Xiaomao sighed as he turned to Cernun Island and flew there instead of entering his dungeon. He had an appointment with Undine at noon today.

When Xiaomao got there, he found Mimir, Taotie, and Undine on the front beach. The three super strong trio seemed to be chatting while countless fairies kept their distance and eavesdropped on their conversation.

Xiaomao didn’t dare to approach them. He joined the fairies and waited for the seniors to finish their businesses.

“Oh, Xiaomao. You’re here already.”

Instantly, Undine, Mimir, and Taotie noticed him. They waved their hands and called Xiaomao to come over.

Obediently, Xiaomao hopped toward them.

“Good afternoon, senior! How’s the talk with senior Cernun, munya?”

Mimir and Taotie looked at each other. They smirked.

“We’ve joined the Mermaid Kingdom. We’re apostles now.”

“Oh, cool, munya!”

“But there’s a catch.”

“Yes?”

Taotie coughed, “We’ve gotten an order from Goddess Chang’e. Well, we need to train you and get you ready for the upcoming cross-world event in a few days.”

Mimir revealed his bright teeth and pulled out two rainbow books from his robe while Taotie spat out a rainbow manual. All of them were ultra-rare-grade!

“Your HUMAN form needs to learn these skills within a day! Be ready for some GOOD-OL-BACK-WHIPPING training course, kitty!”
