Chapter 206 – Cat Dad’s Wager

“Liu Bei? How the hell did you increase your level so fast, munya?!”

The not-so-friendly high-schooler smirked at Xiaomao. He flaunted his swordsman character and his super rare gears.

“Surprised, bitch?”

“Ha! I feel like I’m looking at a frog-in-a-well narcissist gangster-wannabe A-hole. Have you sold your soul to Pangu or something, munya?”

Liu Bei sneered at Xiaomao. He leaned closer to the latter’s face, “Thanks to you, friend. Thank you for broadening my horizon and opening my eyes. Because of that day, I got to know some supermen behind the government.”

Xiaomao sized up Liu Bei. Currently, the latter’s equipment was a full set of level-200 gears, which emitted a terrifying green aura. Moreover, Qi emitted from Liu Bei’s body as if his muscles and bones could regenerate Qi now.

“So, Pangu’s lapdogs raise you,” Xiaomao made his conclusion. It was impossible for Liu Bei to increase his level faster than him, who had been riding on the tailcoat of many immortals. Therefore, Liu Bei might have had a backing deity or an immortal, who fed him with these gears and EXP.

“Let’s face it, Xiaomao. You’ve joined forces with the terrorists, and you’re threatening the peaceful world. God Pangu is the good guy here since he has been protecting us and giving us superpowers! Hell, I’m now a goddamn superman in real life because I’m working for them!”

“You’re making the biggest mistake, munya.”

“The same goes for you, pussy-cat!”

Liu Bei’s eyes turned cold. He extended his hand to grab Xiaomao, but an invisible barrier blocked his hand.

DING

<You cannot attack any player or NPC while you’re in the event’s lobby.>

<This is your first offense. If you do that again, you will be disqualified from the Guild War.>

“…”

Liu Bei clicked his tongue and glared at the game messages. He pulled back his hand.

“Lucky you, pussy-cat. But luck won’t save you in our match!”

Xiaomao tilted his head in confusion about why Liu Bei became such a douchbag. Then, he noticed that a large announcement board, which didn’t exist last night, had been floating over the fountain.

The board showed the brackets of the Guild War Tournament!

Because of Liu Bei’s words, Xiaomao had a bad feeling about this. He summoned a flying sword and flew closer to the board so that he could get a closer look.

Instantly, Xiaomao found his guild name among the brackets. He was scheduled to fight in the first match of the day.

[MUNYA] VS [SHU HAN]

‘This explains a lot. This tourney is rigged from the start, I see.’

Xiaomao turned around and glared at Liu Bei. The latter stuck out his tongue and made a slit-throat gesture to taunt the catopus.

As Xiaomao was in the sky, he got to see more crowds. He didn’t notice before, but Xiaomao finally noticed Liu Bei’s guild mates.

Behind Liu Bei, a group of 20 people were gathering together and had been sitting in a circle. Players avoided getting close to them, but they were staring at their names and levels.

[Shu Han] Jiang Wei, Pangu Followers, Level 950

[Shu Han] Ma Chao, Pangu Followers, Level 999

[Shu Han] Ma Dai, Pangu Followers, Level 920

[Shu Han] Wei Yan, Pangu Followers, Level 999

[Shu Han] Pang Tong, Pangu Followers, Level 900

“Motherhumper! Why don’t you bring the entire five tiger generals and Zhuge Liang with you if you want to cheat this badly! This is too much!”

These guys were NPCs, and their titles told Xiaomao everything he wanted to know.

Liu Bei’s sound of laughter was audible in the sky. He shouted and let the other players hear him.

“Listen, people! MUNYA Guild’s leader is actually the terrorist that killed a hundred compatriot policemen, children, and women in China! I’m going to do you a favor by squashing that Nazi-wannabe and trap him here while the police will track him down!”

“…”

The bystanders looked at each other in bemusement. They had heard about the massive explosion in China, but they didn’t care about it. Moreover, Liu Bei’s logic sounded weird.

What could you do about it if he was really a terrorist?

What was the point of beating a terrorist in a game?

Arrest him? If Xiaomao was really a terrorist, why would he be playing the game?

Many things didn’t add up. The spectators snickered and secretly mocked him for making up illogical excuses.

“I bet that loud-mouth guy is a hacker, and he’s blaming it on someone else.”

“Yeah. I’m not stupid enough to believe in him. Look at him. His guild has so many level-900 NPCs. This event is rigged!”

“I remember Xiaomao. Isn’t he the one that sold element fruits for a shitload of money? That Liu Bei must be jealous of that cat.”

“Yeah, you’re right. Also, screw that terrorist bullshit news. I bet the CCP is framing someone they don’t like again.”

No player believed in Liu Bei, whose credibility was zero from the beginning. They quietly jeered his guild and continued watching the show.

Meanwhile, Xiaomao ignored Liu Bei’s proclamation. He glared at the NPCs and formulated a strategy for his first match.

‘If they are still using the same rules, I can win. But once they summon that level-999 out, I’ll have to rely on THAT.’

In Guild War, levels and individual strength didn’t mean anything as there were other factors that could decide the match. Xiaomao wasn’t afraid of the elite NPCs behind Liu Bei at all.

In high spirits, Xiaomao yelled back.

“How about we put a wager on our match, Liu Bei!? The winner takes all! How’s that, munya?”

Liu Bei laughed, “Sure! No matter what you do, you can’t possibly defeat me! I’ll bet a million bucks on my guild!”

Xiaomao sneered and picked his nose, “A million bucks, munya? What are you, a homeless mayor’s son? This is not a proper wager. It’s a cheap change, munya!”

“What?”

Wagers during guild war events and tournaments were a part of the event’s attractions. Spectators could bet on their favorite player or guild that they would win the match or the tournament, and the game company would take the role of the booker.

However, private wagers were also doable through the game’s system. Both parties simply had to use their guild menu and transfer the money to the wagered pool. In this case, the game only accepted PACT as the wager tokens, so Xiaomao and Liu Bei had to create a betting agreement through the guild menu with PACT.

In addition, the individual wagers between guilds were always shown in the tournament brackets to let the spectators witness it. Then, no guild could cheat the bet later.

Xiaomao took the initiative. He transferred 200 million PACT to the betting pool, forcing Liu Bei to use the same amount as a wager, or the private betting would be canceled.

“Two hundred million PACTs, munya! If you can’t bet this much, take your daddy’s NPCs and go home, you HOMELESS!”

“!!!”

The crowd widened their eyes in shock. Some of them opened a crypto exchange site to check the token’s value.

Yesterday before midnight, it was 1.80 dollars per token. Now, it was already two dollars.

200 million PACTs? That was a 400-million-dollar bet!

That was a huge amount of money that could be recorded in the Guinness Book World’s Record for the highest bet in a VRMMO game!

The crowd began cheering, supporting Xiaomao’s challenge. Some of them didn’t like Liu Bei from the start, and they took this opportunity to mock him out loud.

In addition, because Xiaomao stressed the word “HOMELESS”, the crowd chanted it to bully Liu Bei.

“GO HOME, HOMELESS! Oh, wait. You don’t have a home!”

“HOMELESS! HOMELESS!”

“400 Million Bucks, homeless boy! Do you have ’em?!”

“HOMELESS!”

“HOMELESS! HOMELESS!”

Hearing the deafening chant of the rowdy players, Liu Bei was enraged and embarrassed. Still, he revealed a faint smile as if he was confident in his victory.

“You know what, Xiaomao? You are not the only one who stocked up PACT when it was five cents.”

Liu Bei grudgingly texted someone in real life. He then received several calls from the real world and got yelled at. However, he managed to obtain the amount he needed.

CHA-CHING

Although Xiaomao didn’t know how Liu Bei managed to procure $400 million dollars worth of tokens in minutes, he welcomed the wager. Liu Bei added his 200 million tokens to the pool, making it 400 million PACTs in total.

DING

<Please note. The winning guild will receive a total of 396 million PACT after the handling fee.>

Xiaomao and Liu Bei saw the message and were annoyed. They couldn’t help it since it was how the game made money by taking a 1% fee from the wagered tokens.

“I’ll see you on the battlefield, pussy-cat! You’re already dead. DEAD!” Liu Bei scoffed and led his men to his guild’s lobby room.

Xiaomao pursed his lips. He flew back to his guild lobby as well.

When Xiaomao arrived, Andrew, Shepherd, and everyone was on stand-by. They already wore their best gear and got the necessary items in their inventory.

Xiaomao hopped off the flying sword. He looked toward them.

“Andrew, remember what I briefed you yesterday, munya?”

Andrew nodded and smacked his chest.

“Good. We’ll be using that strategy in the first match right away! Shepherd, be ready as well. I’ll summon you as quickly as I can! We’ll be up against level-999 Pangu’s henchmen in the first match!”

At that moment, Shepherd and Andrew’s expressions changed.

Time quickly passed by after Xiaomao and Liu Bei met in the fountain park.

It was 7 AM, and the game’s hosts already started their live stream.
