Chapter 456 – Villain Cultivator 2.0 (10)
Kai was a 17-year-old orphan. When he was 10, his parents sold him as a slave, and the army bought him as a slave soldier. He had been serving the Kingdom of Yeduk as a footman ever since. noVe)lb-In
As Kai had been through countless battles against goblins, the king rewarded him with freedom. As Kai couldn't read, he continued working as a soldier, and he was promoted to a 10-man commander. He was transferred to the border since then.
One day, a group of scouts returned with several corpses of knight cadets, who had gone into the goblin forest to gain experience. None of the 20 people came back alive.
A few hours after the report, the fortress walls were bombarded by an unknown entity from the forest. Countless soldiers and mages that were on patrol were dead while thousands were injured.
An emergency dispatch order came from the fortress generals. They hired a group of mercenaries, aka the adventurers, to enter the goblin forest to search for the missing people and investigate the cause of the 20-man unit's annihilation. As for the main armies and immortal knights, they would be mobilized to subdue the mysterious entity.
Kai was dispatched along with the adventurers. Many knight cadets from various knight academies also joined in to gain experience. However, there was one issue.
One of the cadets was the son of Duke Merde. His status was superior to every mercenary and knight of the investigation unit.
His name was Jacques. He had European features and short blond hair. However, he was only 5'5 tall and weighed 250 pounds. His big belly, round face, and chubby arms mismatched his knight cadet status. Moreover, he only managed to condense one mana circle, which was lower than average knights and adventurers.
Everything would have been alright if this short fatty just tagged along for the experience. However, Jacques confronted the platoon commander, who was the only 9-circle knight in this unit.
Jacques forced the knight commander to follow his order.
The only Jacques' strong point was his audacity and his status. As Kai had expected, the knight commander yielded his position to the arrogant rookie, and Jacques ordered the platoon of 400 fighters to charge toward the woods right away.
Nobody dared to refute his decision. They ended up marching to the ruined camp of the destroyed unit. When they arrived, they cleaned the area and set up an outpost camp, using it as an operation base and a rendezvous point for an emergency retreat.
.
Kai followed the troops as a rearguard, watching over the supply wagons of their platoon. When they finished setting up their outpost camp, Jacques ordered everybody again.
"Stop building camp! Why are we building a camp before noon?! It's daytime. We have to search for the rampaging goblins! Go, go! All units! Charge into the forest and find me the goblins!"
"..."
Kai heard the order, and he frowned. They hadn't set up the fences, dug the moats, and built watchtowers yet. There was a lot of work to do before nighttime. As for the expedition, it could be done tomorrow morning when the retreat route and the backup camp had been secured.
Kai's colleague whispered to him, "Is that fatty for real? We're supposed to find the culprits that killed the cadets and rescue the missing people. Why is this turning into a raid party?"
Kai had the same thoughts, but he could tell what Jacques was aiming for.
"He just wants to look good in front of the women. You know that knights and adventurers work out, right? They have better figures than local women or prostitutes. Even if they have a scar or two, their toned bodies are more attractive than malnourished townswomen."
"Damn, how the hell did you know all that?! Maybe, are you..."
"Shut it, punk!"
Kai smacked the back of his friend's head. He packed up some jerky in his backpack and refilled his water canteens. Then, he picked up his spear and ordered his unit.
"Make sure to pack at least 10 days' worth of food and water! Don't expect to get resupplied during the expedition!"
The nine soldiers under Kai including the colleague next to him saluted and repacked their backpacks. Then, they followed the other units to join their expedition.
.
Kai's unit wasn't the only one preparing for a long trip, the adventurers also did the same. Each carried at least 10 days' worth of dried food and water, but they left the tents and other necessities behind in the outpost.
'Magic weapons? Meh, low-grade at best.'
To Miaomiao, those weapons and armors were low-grade artifacts that he used to have when he was a mortal. Killer Queen was superior to those junks.
But in this situation, the Solid Snake strategy might not be the right choice. The security was too tight for a one-man raid tactic in this situation. Moreover, their main troops were nearby, and they could rush here in a few minutes if they could fly.
Contemplating the situation, Miaomiao decided to wait longer.
.
Miaomiao lost count of how long he had been watching them. It was 2 AM, but the number of guards didn't reduce. Instead, out of 150 soldiers in there, 120 of them were wide awake!
He was at a loss for what to do. He wondered if he should attack them head-on and flee after he snagged one or two women.
ZAG-ZAG
Suddenly, Miaomiao sensed some movements behind him. He was surprised how they managed to get so close to him without getting detected by his Qi sense.
Miaomiao turned around and found silhouettes of 200 small creatures. He frowned and narrowed his eyes as he clearly saw the faces of heinous and ugly monsters, who looked similar to his adoptive father goblin.
One of the goblins crawled toward Miaomiao, but he didn't show hostility.
"Hobgoblin, hello, GOB!"
'Hobgoblin?'
Miaomiao was confused. He wondered if this goblin mistook him for a hobgoblin. Still, he greeted back in a hushed voice.
"What are you doing here, goblins?"
"We. Hunt. GOB! Detecting. Women's Scent. GOB!"
"Oh."
Miaomiao nodded as he understood their primitive linguistic skill. He wondered if he played too hard and made a group of thirsty goblins come out from their nests.
Seeing that the goblins came out in a large group, Miaomiao scanned their strength. Then, he was slightly disappointed. Most of them didn't have even a mana circle. Out of 200 goblins, only seven had one mana circle, and they were shamans.
'They're bad. No wonder the goblins are on the verge of extinction. But since they're here, I can use them.'
Miaomiao looked at their weapons. Surprisingly, they carried bows, arrows, and clubs. Some of them wore a piece of adventurer's leather armor or weapon that they had looted from their victims.
They might not be useless after all. If they prioritized using range weapons, they might be good at ambushing.
Miaomiao smirked. He had an idea.
"Actually, I'm planning to raid that camp. I'll be the vanguard. Can you provide me cover with your arrows?"
"Raid, GOB? We. STRONK! We. Raid. GOB! Women. Seedbeds. Capture. GOB!"
"Now, we're talking. I only need one or two women. You can take the rest. Deal?"
"Fair. GOB! Raid. GOB!"
Miaomiao widely grinned. He pulled out Killer Queen and looked at the other goblins. As if they had heard their conversation, they already prepared their bows and arrows.
"Alright. Shoot as soon as I jump out. Be ready."
"READY. GOB!"
