Chapter 93 - Walking into the Lion's Den
"President Jing, are we not headed back to the hotel?" Wang Yi glanced through the front mirror at her reflection. Jing Lihua was looking outside with a persistent small smile. Wang Yi had observed that whenever they traveled by car, she would glance outside the whole time absorbed into herself. "I insist again. We must get back to President Li as soon as possible. They might be after us."
"Wang Yi, where do you think they will expect us to go after they received the news that their ambush failed." Jing Lihua continued her glance outside while propping her face over her wrist.
"To President Li..."
"Exactly." Jing Lihua yawned and leaned against the back seat. "Wu Junjie might seem shallow but he is not stupid. Today's my last day in Hong Kong so it is his last chance. He would do all he can to get me. They would have already set more ambushes along our path." Even though Jing Lihua said that she sounded quite at ease. "Between have the signals returned?"
"No President Jing."
"I expected that." Wu Junjie must have worked quite hard. To have disrupted the communication in such a big area, he must have worked quite hard. Jing Lihua recalled the day she had spent in the forests. She had tried to search for signals everywhere, taking out her phone every few minutes. But she couldn't. It must have been him who had cut the connection. "It seems after today I'll have to think of a permanent solution for him." She couldn't delay it anymore. She had delayed long enough in her ignorance of his existence. Now that her memory had returned, she wouldn't just sit back and do nothing.
"But President this location where are we headed for... Isn't it like jumping into the lion's den?" Wang Yi was assigned Jing Lihua security so he had to be careful with every move. But the current dire situation had left him with no choice but to follow her lead even though it sounded ridiculous. For some reason, he had started believing in her. Tho woman his boss choose couldn't be an ordinary one. So he sped the car to where she directed him without any hesitation.
Jing Lihua had something in her personality that made others want to yield to her leadership. It was like she was made to rule.
"That's where they least expect us." Jing Lihua went back to looking outside through the glass into the busy city. Her expressions, for once, turned serious.
...
In a private room of a high-class nightclub.
A woman sat alone in the room. Slender fingers curled around a wine glass. Elegantly, the glass was guided to her red plump lips. But before she could taste the bitterness, someone came into the room uninvited.
"She is here." A female voice was heard from her back. There was a tinge of hesitation and anxiety in the voice. "I told you we must get rid of her sooner. Back then when she didn't have his protection you should have gotten rid of her. Do you see it now? You have lost him. You have lost him once and for all. She has returned and you have lost your position and that's all because of your stupidity."
The woman put down the glass on the counter. Her long eyelashes fluttered down and hid her eyes. Her expressions looked grieving.
"Wu Xiuqin..." The other woman said softly. Suddenly she felt like she had said too much.
"He was never mine. He could never be mine." Wu Xiuqin picked up the glass and twirled the wine with a sardonic smile. "What's use it is all? If he could ever be mine, he would have been by now. Six years. Six years is a long enough wait. I tried everything. But he kept his wall. There is no way I could get him."
"Always this sentimental aren't you?" The other woman sighed. "If you could just think it from the other perspective. Feelings are one thing and the profits are other. We know that Li Zhiqiang's father is at his last. He would not be able to last long. After his death, the family would face strong opposition. They will require support. A marriage bond between the Li and Wu family is the only way they have."
Wu Xiuqin laughed. "You don't know Li Zhiqiang, Wu Ying."
"And you do?" Wu Ying took a seat and made herself comfortable. "Tell me what you know."
Wu Xiuqin laughed. "You wouldn't let me off, would you?" She angrily put down the glass. She had wanted to spend the night alone.
"I have noticed your change. Ever since Li Zhiqiang had made the visit to Beijing, you have been shutting yourself in. You are becoming the same way as you were six years ago. And do you think I'll let you do that?" Wu Ying was very close to Wu Xiuqin. Wu Xiuqin was her little sister. "I wouldn't let you ruin yourself. Not for some worthless whore like her." If her little sister could get married to Li Zhiqiang, it would mean an endless fortune for the whole of the Wu family. Li Zhiqiang might not like her right now. But time would make him forget his lover. The Wu family had tasted the bliss of being favored by Li Zhiqiang for the last six years.
If they could have a member of their family married in that household, Wu Ying couldn't begin to imagine the status they would enjoy.
Because the Li family was on an entirely different level.
"If you knew him, you would have been able to make him fall for you."
"You don't understand him, Wu Ying. Li Zhiqiang will never fall for me. I have tried everything. It's only that I know him I say that."
"That's not important. He doesn't need to fall for you to marry you." Wu Ying didn't want Wu Xiuqin to give up on Li Zhiqiang. "Have you not noticed the recent actions Li Zhiqiang has taken? He has given us no leeway. What does it tell us? It has been less than a month since she had arrived back in his life and he has already started attacking us. If he ever marries her then we will be finished."
Wu Xiuqin was about to say something but just then, someone very unexpected walked into that private room with a calm smile.
