Chapter 208 208: Test
The crowd nodded their head.
Naturally, there was no need as his reputation preceded him.
Marshall continued speaking with a rare trace of excitement present in his voice, "Lord Lucious has good news to announce to you all." he turned to the man beside him and respectfully asked, "Lord Lucious, will you please do us the honor?"
Not here to make any trouble, Lucious nodded his head. The next second, he was looking at the crowd with a warm smile. His bright emerald eyes were shining warmly under the sun. Everyone's eyes were focused on him, some looking at him with envy and others with reverence. He was only not attractive but also authoritative, and a figure with a legendary status in many people's hearts, an inspiration for an entire generation. It was hard to not look at him.
He spoke, "I will craft one potion of any level below six for anyone that seeks out the seed of corruption of the dimension created by the recent dungeon break and destroys it. You might not know, but besides being a highly respected noble, I am also one of the Alchemy Kings. The potions I create are always more than 80% free of impurities, making them significantly safer to consume than the ones on the market. This is a rare chance to come across.'
Every potion came with risks. While they provided immense benefits, they could induce or increase the concentration of the force of corruption inside one's body, and if pushed past a certain limit, mutating into a mindless killing machine was certainly a possibility. However, the fewer the impurities in a potion, the safer it was to consume. A potion with an impurity level of only 20% was considered extremely unique.
Val thought, such a potion was truly rare to come across. But he was immune to the force of corruption, so it didn't really matter. But he was not completely unmoved.
He was interested in Lucious's identity as an alchemy king.
Alchemy Kings were said to have achieved the epitome of alchemy. The prerequisite for this title was that they had crafted a level 8 potion. At any given time, there could only be 10 such masters. Lucious being one of them clearly showed he was not to be underestimated.
He pondered, 'He can drive away advanced-grade devils like Morthos and Stormgazer without making a move, and he crafts level 8 potions. Just how can one man be so proficient in so many areas? Is it because he is from that clan?'
"What an amazing news!"
The lower city's residents had never heard of a potion with an 80% purity rate, their faces lit up with excitement and astonishment.
"A potion of such high purity? Is he serious?"
"I've heard about Alchemy kings' potions, they are legendary. Since no one's contradicting his claim, it must be true."
"Can you imagine what such a potion would sell for? We could be rich! This might be the opportunity of a lifetime!"
"Despite the risks involved, I am not going to pass up this opportunity."
The dangers of the dimension were real, but with such a reward, venturing into one to destroy it from the inside was well worth the risk!
Oliver remarked, "Master's pretty good at riling up the crowd."
A voice boomed out, reaching everyone's ears.
"Don't get ahead of yourselves. Only those who pass a certain test will be given this opportunity," Marshall cautioned the eager crowd.
A voice from the crowd piped up, "What's the test?"
Marshall replied, "You'll have to face and overcome a formidable challenge. Specifically, you must defeat a level 35 beast from the Coliseum. Only by proving your worth against such a powerful adversary will you be considered good enough to become part of the expedition to the lesser dimension."
A muscular man with a broad chest, long black hair tied in a ponytail, and a pair of piercing eyes stepped forward, declaring, "I will go first."
"Who is he?" Val asked.
The person beside him said, "You don't know him? He's the son of the lower city lord, Clea Thunderspear."
'His name is too feminine. Which retard named such a big and burly man in such a silly way?' Val kept his offensive thoughts to himself, secretly laughing at the other's misfortune. He bet the tall and muscular guy wasn't happy about having such a girly name either.
Seeing Clea, Oliver's face turned tense. He bit his lip and murmured, "Why is my brother's right-hand man here? Is he here to cause trouble for me?"
The thought came naturally to him as these two bastards had tortured him a lot in his childhood. Until his master helped him escape that hell, he was beaten by them every other day. They were sick psychopaths who liked to pick on the face. On top of feeling tensed, his face also turned pale.
Marshall pulled out a scroll and unfolded it, "Sign this contract."
The contract stated that the organizers wouldn't be held responsible if someone get hurt or died during the test. Although there were precautions set in place to avoid death, accidents could happen.
Clea signed it without hesitation.
Marshall clapped his hands, signaling the start of the challenge, "Bring out the beast!"
The iron gates connected to the arena opened with a loud creaking noise, and a cage containing a tall, burly monkey was pushed out into the spotlight.
"5ft tall, covered in red fur, and eyes glinting with a trace of intelligence and savagery, that's a Red-Maned Ape. Even though it's labeled a level 35 beast, its ferocity can outmatch beasts of level 40. With its powerful hands, it can easily tear apart adversaries. I'm afraid it might be too much for young master Clea to handle," an onlooker expressed.
"Don't underestimate our master," sneered a young man from the crowd.
'Looks like the members of the lower city lord's household were also among the crowd gathered in the Coliseum. I better not badmouth him out loud,' Val thanked the god that he held back from making fun of him a moment ago. Otherwise, he would've attracted unnecessary attention.
