Chapter 30 Jack... Master Diviner?!

"HOW DARE YOU! Blasphemer!—"

Jack's Danger Sense was already blowing up!

Whoever that was… he was utterly pissed! He could already sense an enormous quantity of Mana locked on his Divination tent as if an artillery! Gulp!

"Why now?! We were almost done too!" Jack grumbled as he ordered his fox to get ready. Their safety and reputation were on the line! Instantly, he adopted a mighty demeanor.

"Who dares to disturb my business? Is there no law in Dawn City anymore?" Jack thundered as powerfully as possible as he came out, almost freezing in shock.

There wasn't just one guy, but an army!

There were KKK-looking mages all around his tent! All wore long white gowns and masks adorned with stars… and they seemed in attack formation! Their representative chuckled.

"Finally, you came out! Do you know what your crime is?" He smiled.

Crime?! Wasn't there any room for discussion?! What kind of crazy group was this?! Besides, they were straight in the middle of the City! Would they dare fight here?!

Still, this was definitely not the time for Jack to back down!

"Crime? Surely you jest! My conscience is clear."

"Scoff. Acting innocent? THIS!"

He pointed at the Price Sign. What kind of setting was this?! Was there some KKK-looking mafia controlling the Divination Shops?!"

"Divination shouldn't be used for such selfish reasons. Otherwise, the entire balance of the universe might as well crumble. Do you recognize your sins and accept punishment?"

[Fate Worshiper David Wants You to Die!]

[You will Unlock the Martyr Class!]

[Do You Accept His Offer?]

Hell no! What kind of ridiculous crap was this?! Had this guy learned from some Demonic Gods or something?!

"That… I'll have to decline…." Jack shook his head.

"Decline? Do you think you have a choice in the matter?"

The madman was already loudly cackling as he gestured to his subordinates. Without waiting, they spent all their Mana, and a gigantic magical circle appeared, centered on Jack!

"Oh crap! Kid, steel your mind! This is a law attack!" The Ghost cried out!

Law attack?! Jack had no damn clue what that was! But then his new teacher sounded again. "They're using their conviction to attack you directly! Resist, or you're screwed!"

That's when he felt it!

An invisible energy assaulted his mind.

It was the cultists' conviction that Jack was in the wrong and should pay for it! He understood that if they succeeded, he too would believe he deserved death!

'Tch— So it's like they've activated a magical debate field… with my life on the line?! Bring it on, you bastards!' Confronted with such strange magic, Jack spoke up: BS time!

"You're saying I sinned by charging money for Divination? What if I'm simply doing it to put the customers at ease, allowing them to repay my generosity?"

The strange magical circle shook ever so slightly, the strange Fate Worshiper going back on the offensive.

"Misplaced generosity is still a sin, and so is sharing Heaven's secrets with mortals! This changes nothing. You still deserve death!" The man retorted, not missing a beat.

"Heavens? Mortals? Such a narrow-minded view! There is no such thing as deserving to know the secrets of Heaven. There is only the fated and those who are not."

"Y-you! Are you claiming that you had Fate with every mortal who entered your tent so far? There's no way that's possible!" He clamored.

"Is that so? Doesn't that simply show how little you understand? My very presence on this street and in this world is Fate! Who are you to claim that Fate is wrong?!" Jack berated.

The bystanders followed this exchange with rapt attention. Every time one would add an argument, the air would tremble as if an invisible judge.

But the enemy had long been ready:

"Fate is never wrong! But you, who selfishly exploits it, definitely are!— And I'll prove it! Do you dare compete in a Divination Challenge against me?" he thundered smugly.

Divination Challenge? Whatever this was, there was no way Jack could possibly succeed, right? After all, he didn't know the first thing about such magic! He was but a scammer…

But at this moment, he saw the trap.

If he admitted being inferior, the strange Law magic would activate, and the man's conviction would overwhelm him! Then his Divination venture would be utterly doomed!

"Fine! Let's have a contest of Divination!… but as the challenged, I should pick how we compete, right? Or is your mastery of Fate so shallow that you can't even handle this?" Jack clamored.

In his ear, the Ghost was already raising his voice. "Y-you?! What are you doing?! Now that you accepted, you can't back out! You should have just kept stalling!"

Stalling? For what? The guards, perhaps? His fox army was almost as shady as those self-righteous white-wearing assholes! No, he'd resolve this problem by himself!

"How about we pick random members of the crowd and divine information about them? That should be fair for both parties, right?" Jack proposed.

Instantly the scene became heated. They'd be able to see those mysterious masters at work? This wasn't just amazing; it was perfect!

"Hehe, alright! Let me start, then!"

The arrogant Diviner quickly chose a volunteer from the crowd. The old man that got picked was so happy that he was almost dancing in joy.

"Stand in the middle while I Divine your Fate."

From a pouch on his waist, he grabbed a bunch of unknown bones, and he began studying them, going "I see" and "Ah" at times. Then after a few minutes, he turned toward the man.

"Your name is Garuda, you've always had great dreams of adventure, but you've settled for a quiet life in the City instead. Yet sometimes you wish you took another path."

"How did you know?!"

"Recently, you've been wondering how things would have turned out if you had become an adventurer, and I can tell you if you so desire…."

"Yes, please, please tell me!"

"You would have peaked at the Silver Rank and obtained fleeting fortune and glory but would have died in a goblin's nest in a remote meadow."

The old man was livid, thanking his luck that he had chosen his current path instead! Suddenly, he felt enlightened, peace returning to his mind!

"Would you say this was accurate?" The challenger asked.

"Yes! Thank you, thank you so much! You're amazing!" The man's gratitude was a testament to the Diviner's skill! Jack instantly felt the Conviction spell become "tighter".

"Hehe, it's your turn! Try and beat that!"

The crowd gazed at Jack, shaking their heads. The other guy hadn't even asked a single question yet had said so much! Such godlike power! How was he supposed to top that?

Yet, he wasn't worried. It was time for a massacre…

"Beat that? Are you getting competitive? Does it feel nice to revel in the praises? It almost seems you're doing this for fame rather than the glorious ideal you claim."

"T-that?!" The man coughed blood.

"No matter. I guess it's my turn. I won't parade like you, nor will I bother making it such a show. Let this be a lesson on what true Divination is all about."

Jack calmly uttered the most insane brag ever! He wasn't just stating that he'd win… but that it would be a very uneventful landslide victory…?!

"As for the target of the Divination, I'll choose… you!"

He pointed to… the same old guy as his opponent?! What else could he say that wouldn't be a repeat? Was there something wrong with his head?

"M-master Diviner, are you sure?" The old man spoke up.

"Yep, 100%," Jack affirmed.

The old man stood in the middle, and everyone expected Jack to take out some mystical tool. Nope, none at all! He simply glanced at the man and then opened his mouth.

"Your name isn't Garuda, but Garuda Junior. Your father was an adventurer, hence why you'd often rethink your path… since you admired him very much."

"T-that's actually true! I—"

"Shh, don't interrupt me, son! Anyway, recently your child has been talking about adventuring, and it scares you shitless. Wouldn't a simple and safe life be better?"

"That's exactly!—"

"Shhh! Now, thanks to this bone-playing freak, you've decided to stop him from adventuring at all costs, even sabotaging your great relationship."

"YES!"

"Shhh! Anyway, Fate is fickle, and all that matters is his choice. May he live or die, a path is only worth treading if it's one's decision. Thus is life, and thus is Fate."

The scene turned deathly silent. Many were still trying to process Jack's last words, trying to gleam their profound meaning.

But that's when the Law Magic circle suddenly began vibrating as if a supersonic Dildo! Then an instant later, the backlash started, all the white-robbed guys violently throwing up blood!

Amidst a sea of collapsed Fate Worshipers, Jack turned tail and reentered his Divination Tent….but right in passing, he added a few zeros to his prices!

They had barely entered when the Ghost and foxes crowded around him.

"How the fuck did you do that?!"

"Oh, it was easy. I just…"

[A Certain Fate God Awakens!]

[You've Been Chosen as…]

"FUCK!"
