1358 Storm In The Capital (1)
Back in Defense Planet No. 29’s main base.
Battlecrafts flew over from afar, carrying with them the smell of blood as they moved towards the main base.
The martial warriors guarding the main base looked up, alerted by the arrivals.
“They’re back!”
“General Cameron is back?”
“I wonder how’d it go.”
…
Everyone was excited. Discussions exploded at ground level; everyone felt uneasy.
This time humans were the ones attacking. Hence, many were feeling pessimistic, predicting it would be a disastrous defeat.
Of course, some of the war advocates had the idea that humans should be proactive. They felt that they had to stop their defeat streak by launching a retaliation.
The battlecrafts in the air stopped and contacted the main base’s commanding system. They only entered after their identity was confirmed.
All the battlecrafts entered the main base. The bloodstains and damage caused by force attacks became evident as they got closer. This proved how intense the encounter had been.
However, the returning vessels were the same in number as the ones that set off to fight.
This implied that the casualties weren’t excessive this time.
Everyone was guessing the outcome and started smiling.
The ships floated down and parked on the field. Martial warriors streamed down with General Cameron in the lead.
A few heaven stage generals stepped forward. “Welcome, General Cameron. Congratulations for your victorious return!”
They had already received the news.
It was a grand victory!
“Hahaha.” The leading general couldn’t hide the smile on his usually stern face, laughter overflowing.
The martial warriors present inferred from the reactions of their superiors; there was happiness in their eyes.
The generals who stayed at the base stared at General Qi Yuanju and their other peers behind General Cameron, feeling envious.
This was a huge merit!
Why weren’t we part of it?
They would be lying if they said they weren’t jealous. However, they chose to stay at the base.
That’s right, General Cameron gave them the chance. Alas, there always were people who would doubt and choose to stay behind.
General Qi Yuanju and the others followed General Cameron without any hesitation and earned the credit. They deserved it.
The group of high officials felt proud when they noticed those reactions.
The officials who stayed were in a different league and had always opposed their decision. Finally, those naysayers suffered a massive loss.
Let’s see if they’ll cry this time.
General Cameron stepped forth and asked, “General Tian, is everything OK at the base?”
“Don’t worry, everything is fine. No incidents took place,” General Tian Boming replied.
“That’s good to hear.” General Cameron heaved a sigh of relief.
The main army was dispatched for the great war; only a small portion of martial warriors had remained to guard the base. They could have lost the base if the apparitions took the chance to attack.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
“General Cameron, I’ll ask my men to make some preparations so we can celebrate our victory,” Tian Boming suggested with a smile.
General Cameron waved a hand. “There’s no hurry. Many soldiers were injured; why don’t we give them some time to rest? We should celebrate together.”
Tian Boming patted his head and said in a hurry, “What am I thinking? Of course, of course.”
“Also, I need to make a post-war report to headquarters. I might be busy in the next two days,” General Cameron said.
Tian Boming felt embarrassed by the rejection.
The generals standing at the side gave him disdainful glances. The fellow was trying to curry favor since General Cameron’s campaign was victorious. Unfortunately, the latter was having none of that.
Furthermore, his actions belied his impatience. The most important thing at the moment was to make the post-war report and reward the martial warriors according to their contributions. No one had the time to party with him.
General Cameron asked General Qi Yuanju and the rest of the officials to go back and send some of the seriously injured soldiers to the infirmary.
He was placing great importance in their recovery, ensuring that each of the injured would receive the best treatment.
Everything progressed smoothly.
Wang Teng got pulled to execute light force treatments again; after all, its effect to counter dark apparition’s attacks was amazing.
This was a good thing. His reputation continued to rise thanks to this.
Martial warriors were shocked by his many great achievements in the past and respected him for it, but now they felt closer to him and supported him more.
He would definitely rise in ranks soon, with a bright future ahead of him, unlike normal warriors like them.
Still, he wasn’t arrogant, being down to earth and joking around when interacting with them. It was hard to tell that the young man was a genius.
How could he not receive their respect and love?
…
A storm was brewing in the Great Qian Empire.
News was sent from Defense Planet No. 29. Many amongst the higher authorities knew about the matter and were astounded. They quickly sent their men to confirm the authenticity of the reports.
The result was, humans had indeed achieved a grand victory, and would be able to regain control of the entire Defense Planet No. 29 soon.
Gasp!
Everyone was in shock!
