Chapter 29.2: Warm but short-lived and timid.
After drinking white porridge for nearly a week, Xu Sui slowly recovered. On the day when she could eat normal food, she posted on her WeChat Moments: It feels so good to be able to eat normally again, without spice it was so miserable.
After less than five minutes of posting, Da Liu was the first to comment: Without Little Sister Xu at dinner, I always felt that the taste was lacking.
Xu Sui replied with a kowtow emoji. Right when she was about to exit WeChat, a red plus one appeared in her Moments. The picture in the small profile was the familiar Mandarin.
Her eyelids jumped, and she clicked into it; ZJZ commented:
【Come over, I’ll treat you to dinner.】
Zhou Jingze has always liked to joke around that Xu Sui couldn’t tell if he was serious, so she replied: 【Are you sure?】
ZJZ replied: 【En, not lying to you. 】
After Xu Sui saw the message, she ran from the library back to the dormitory and changed clothes, hurrying to Beihang to find Zhou Jingze.
Xu Sui walked into the gate of Beihang and headed toward the path on the right; as she hurried up the steps, she accidentally bumped into someone and apologized aloud: “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” The other party seems to have a nice attitude.
Xu Sui raised her head at the voice and found that the other party was also wearing the flight academy’s training uniform. Looking at the familiar face, suddenly, her mind flashed. Wasn’t this Zhou Jingze’s opponent from the basketball game last week, Gao Yang?
Xu Sui nodded and walked past them. As she took two-three steps up, unexpectedly, a tall boy next to Gao Yang grabbed her arm and said playfully:
“Yo, isn’t this Xu Sui?”
This voice couldn’t have been more than familiar to Xu Sui, belonging to those in her memory of who she didn’t have a good impression. She raised her eyes, and it turned out to be Li Sen, her classmate in Li Ying during freshman year.
Xu Sui and Li Sen didn’t know each other very well, but in class, Li Sen has a bad temperant and likes to curry favor with the bigshots and bully the weak classmates.
Who knew he would also be here.
Xu Sui didn’t like to interact with people like Li Sen, so she gave an emotionless nod and attempted to break free from his restraint, wanting to leave, but Li Sen clenched even tighter.
Xu Sui wore a cropped light purple knitted sweater today, revealing a flat stomach, and straight jeans. Her soft, shoulder-length hair was tucked behind her fair ear. With a palm-sized face, she looked soft and cute.
Li Sen measured Xu Sui up and down, raised his eyebrows, and whistled, commenting in a vulgar voice: “Old classmate, you’ve become beautiful ah. Leave a number, and let’s catch up later.”
No matter if it was the tone of Li Sen’s words or his behavior that made Xu Sui feel very uncomfortable when he wasn’t paying attention, Xu Sui stepped on his foot, and the other party let go of his hand in pain.
Xu Sui immediately walked past, and at the same time, she threw a sentence at him: “Not familiar with you.”
Gao Yang looked at Li Sen when he heard the words. Li Sen became flustered and never thought that Xu Sui’s well-behaved appearance was hiding a soft thorn, making him look like a fool in front of Gao Yang.
Li Sen was so angry that he shouted at Xu Sui from the back: “Look at this attitude, someone’s father is a martyr.”
Sure enough, as soon as these words came out, Xu Sui stopped in her tracks; as the warm sun in the afternoon passed through the leaves, the rays slanted down on the ground, making her figure appear a little sad.
Just when Li Sen thought he got control of her, Xu Sui turned her head; her eyes were cold and with a calm tone: “Yeah, better than the son of a nouveau riche.”
The part about nouveau riche directly attacked Li Sen’s sore point that he took two-three steps up the stair and grabbed Xu Sui’s collar fiercely: “What the f*ck did you just say?”
From the moment when Li Sen rudely mentioned her father, Xu Sui’s good temperament and kindness disappeared. She glanced at Li Sen up and down, about to repeat her sentence.
Suddenly, a can of sparkling drink smashed right at Li Sen’s head from not far away with a “bang”. All the dark coffee-colored liquid poured on his back, his clothes immediately becoming wet.
Li Sen raised his neck, and his lowered hands slowly clenched into fists: “Who the fuck did that?”
“Your father.” An arrogant and lazy voice sounded.
The crowd looked in the direction of the voice, and Li Sen turned back. Zhou Jingze was standing ten steps lower than them, with a few friends standing next to him. He was wearing a black T-shirt and cargo pants, slowly playing with a silver lighter. He raised his eyes and watched Li Sen. His eyes were dark and shiny, unable to detect any emotions clearly, and the scarlet flames burst from second to next.
He was obviously looking up at them, but through the thin air, it gave a feeling that he was looking down upon them. Zhou Jingze looked at Li Sen calmly, and the latter’s heart slowly panicked, his previous anger dissipating in half.
Li Sen didn’t know what Zhou Jingze would do.
Gao Yang took a step aside and took the initiative to greet him. Zhou Jingze put his hands in his pockets and leisurely took slow steps up the stairs, with a few boys following behind him, giving a strong aura.
Li Sen took a step back subconsciously but continued to stare at him, not willing to show his weakness. Zhou Jingze walked up to Xu Sui and held her shoulders: “Go.”
He didn’t spare Li Sen half a look during the whole process.
Speechless, who gave him the right to be so wild? Li Sen stared at their departing backs and shouted, his voice sneering: “Zhou Jingze, do you know what Xu Sui looked like in the past? Haha, I used to be classmates with her; she had a pockmarked face, swollen and ugly. I still have photos of you. Do you want to take a look at it?”
Despite all the words, Zhou Jingze’s vision is nothing but the same.
He clearly felt that the little girl under his arm was shaking. He stopped, withdrew his hand, and turned around. He raised his eyebrows and looked very interested:
“Really? Let me see.”
Li Sen took two steps forward and looked down to find his phone. Who would have expected Zhou Jingze to walk over two-three steps and punch him to the ground, throwing the phone far away.
The scene immediately became chaotic. Seeing that Li Sen was about to climb up, Zhou Jingze gave another kick. Sheng Nanzhou and Da Liu hurriedly tried pulling him back, but they couldn’t stop him.
Zhou Jingze’s dark eyes were filled with intense hostility, and he wanted to beat up Li Sen like crazy. Sheng Nanzhou shouted in a hurry: “Stop hitting him! If you keep beating him up, you’ll be punished. It’s not like you don’t know how strict the flight academy’s discipline is!”
Li Sen was beaten up so bad that he could see stars; he clutched his heart and gasped heavily, scolding: “F*ck you, I’ve endured you long enough; you actually beat a classmate for a girl.”
“You just wait for the punishment.” Li Sen showed a wicked smile.
Zhou Jingze stepped on him and directly picked up Li Sen’s collar, looking straight at him and speaking very slowly:
“I’ll give you two choices– one: apologies to her. Two: in the future every place I go, you go around it.”
Li Sen was out of breath being stepped on. He spat on the ground and raised his head:
“Who are you to say that I need to surrender to you?”
Zhou Jingze stared at Li Sen and let out a sneer, the frivolous energy appearing: ” Competition, you choose.”
At the same time, Zhou Jingze released his hand that was tightly gripping Li Sen’s collar and threw him again onto the floor. With the back of his head on the ground, he cursed: “F*ck.”
On the topic of competition, Li Sen stopped talking. He was indeed inferior to Zhou Jingze in every way. Gao Yang, who had been silent for a while, suddenly said,
“I will compete with you.”
Zhou Jingze threw one word at them: “Whatever.”
“Next month’s flight competition, which is also our first test flight,” Gao Yang said.
The coaches all said that Zhou Jingze was a natural born pilot— talented, smart, and born for the sky, but Gao Yang wanted to see if that was true.
“En.”
Gao Yang helped Li Sen up. He wiped the blood from the corners of his mouth and said in a provocative tone: “You win, I apologize to her. You lose, run ten laps around the Beihang training ground while shouting you were defeated.”
The stakes were high, and Sheng Nanzhou and the others turned their heads to see Zhou Jingze’s reaction. It was their first flight that it shouldn’t be taken lightly like a joke. In addition to capabilities, there was also geographical location, weather, and wind direction to consider. In other words, only the right time and place will win.
This bet is too high, especially for someone so prideful as Zhou Jingze. Xu Sui couldn’t imagine the feeling of Zhou Jingze’s self-esteem being trampled on.
Standing on the side, she hurriedly pulled Zhou Jingze’s sleeve and whispered, “Forget it, don’t compete. I’m fine.”
“Let’s go.”
Li Sen immediately followed up and deliberately provoked him: “Why? Do you dare to?”
Zhou Jingze suddenly smiled; the tip of his tongue pressed against his left cheek, and his tone was idle and careless:
“Why wouldn’t I.”
