He shook his head in disbelief. "Thank you for taking care of me," he said suddenly.
"You don't have to thank me. I did very little. Xiong Hua was the one who took care of you while I was at work. The doctor gave you meds to bring down the fever."
"Not everyone would do what you did," he noted truthfully. He looked so exhausted that she wanted to haul him to bed. He hadn't eaten anything and Qian Meng also wanted to check his temperature.
"You look tired and hungry." She stepped closer to him. "And I am not any random person. I am going to be your wife."
That pulled him back. "I am tired and hungry," Mo Qingchen agreed with a slight grin. "And you are going to be my wife."
"Go back to your room and rest. I'll bring the food up. I asked Xiong Hua to keep a plate aside for you." There was no way she was going to bother the woman at this time. She couldn't work all day and night.
"I'll be fine. I have some business to settle." A sinister look crossed his feature.
"I don't want to pry, but I happened to overhear your conversation. If you didn't sign the contract, it doesn't have much validity." She glanced over at the pile of papers littered all over his floor.
"That's not the point," he grumbled.
"Yes, it is. You threw a tantrum and scared the poor woman over nothing."
Well, it wasn't nothing. But she had to make him go back to bed. Anything to achieve that goal.
"Of course there is a problem," he scoffed. "She should have known when I didn't attend the meeting and failed to cancel. She knew that I was working from home for the past few days and should have had the presence of mind."
Good point, but she had to fight it. "Well, usually, no information is good information. Won't you say so?"
His brow arched. "You confirm meetings the morning of, don't you? And you found me when I didn't answer your calls."
She scratched her head. "I think I know you a little better than the new graduate," she said in a low voice.
"It's common sense. What she did reflects poorly on me. She made it seem like I am easy to manipulate into deals. That is unacceptable." He was typing furiously on his keyboard as he spoke.
"Even if that is the case, she is new. You need to train your staff about expectations and give them chances. Did you really need to make her cry like that?" The girl had a running nose because of him!
"I didn't make her cry. It's not my fault she can't handle being reprimanded. It just shows that she is incompetent and that is intolerable."
Mo Qingchen was so serious that she had to smile at him. He was angry at the girl for crying. The very thought made Qian Meng break into giggles.
"Do I amuse you?" Mo Qingchen looked up from the screen, his hands hovering over the keyboard as he eyed her.
"Very much." She kept laughing and watched as a smile crept across his face. "I'll get you something to eat. You look like you're doing something evil, so I will leave you to it. But by the time I come back, you will have finished it and closed your laptop and computer. You will quietly eat your meal and then go back to bed."
Qian Meng expected him to fight her on it, but to her surprise, he just looked at her with confusion.
"You don't have to do that," he explained. "I am not marrying you so that you can take care of me. I have people to bring my food and cook it."
"I know I don't have to." Qian Meng rolled her eyes. "I want to." She chuckled at his baffled expression as she turned around to walk out of the door.
If they were going to be married, she wanted them to have an amicable relationship. She wasn't going to just marry for show. She wanted to join hands with this man.
It was an added perk.
When she returned, he hadn't ended his work.
He was on the phone spewing venom. It looked like he was about to fire someone, so Qian Meng cleared her throat. He disconnected the call after informing the person on the other side that they would talk later and slammed it down.
"I have some work left," he said. His eyes fell on the plate on her hand and his eyes widened in shock.
"You cooked for me?" he asked.
"No, I didn't cook. I just heated the food. You don't have to look so impressed." She laughed. "Now, get back into bed or you won't get dinner." She pointed towards the door.
He ran his hand through his hair and glared at his phone for one last time before standing up. "I can eat while I work," he said, reaching for the tray.
Qian Meng shook her head as she pulled it away from him. "I know you are a multi-tasking genius, but you won't get a chance to prove it to me today. No more work. You need rest. So, back to the room, you go."
She gave him a pointed look.
Mo Qingchen laughed at her serious face. "You're going to serve me dinner in bed?"
Qian Meng nodded. "Yes, I am. And I will watch you finish the plate of food and crib about how bad microwaving is for good food as I work."
"Multi-tasking yourself, huh?"
"Yes, I am a multi-tasking minion."
"I would hardly call you a minion." Mo Qingchen's smirk was devilish.
"You can call me whatever the hell you want as long as you get back into bed." She headed for his room, hoping he would follow.
And to her surprise… he did.
His footsteps padded down on the hardwood floor behind her.
