Chapter 44

Who is it? (2)

“What do you mean?” Lucion lifted an inquisitive brow, staring at Hume with a tilted head.

“Oh, isn’t that the word? I mean, as a butler, it’s time for me to help you.” The corners of Hume’s mouth deepened.

“How?” asked Lucion.

“I may be unstable, but I’m a monster.” Hume pointed to himself. “There is something I didn’t tell you about because before this I had categorized it to be an useless ability.”

“What ability are you talking about?”

Hearing Lucion’s curious tone, Hume shifted slightly as if embarrassed and said, “In addition to the power and the ability to transform, there is one ability related to memory and one that I learned at the banquet.”

“Hmm.” Lucion nodded his head before continuing, “Anything else you haven’t told me about?”

“No, there’s nothing else. But the warlock who made me said I have the potential of evolving. Perhaps if I evolve, my abilities will increase further.”

‘... Evolution?’ It was an unfamiliar term for Lucion, but now was not the time to inquire about it.

“What is this ability you haven’t mentioned before?”

“I can recall the memories I have seen today.”

It seemed to be an ability similar to that of perfect memory. That explains why Anthony said Hume learned so quickly.

“Since I tried to find a refreshing sweet scent at a banquet, I found out that I can tell the difference between fragrances by smelling them. I can remember them for a longer period unlike the ability to remember things which aren’t marked by any sort of smell.”

“Specifically.”

“So, right now, if the paper here smells A, B, and C, then only A can be traced. Simultaneous tracking is not yet possible.”

“You mean you can see the smell in your eyes?”

“No, they all smell differently. If I practice, I will know for sure.” Hume looked at Lucion, hoping for a compliment inside.

‘Is... Hume a canine kind of monster?’

Lucion fiddled with the mask and calmly accepted the situation. Regardless of the reason, it was certain that Hume’s ability was helpful in the current situation.

“That was a good decision, Hume.”

“Thank you!”

[Is he a canine type monster?] asked Russell cautiously, unable to control his itchy mouth.

“I don’t know either. What is certain is that it was mixed with this and that.” Hume replied with a happy smile.

“Hume.” Lucion called Hume.

“You said it’s the ability to recall the memories you saw today, right?”

“Yes. That’s right.”

In response to Hume’s answer, Lucion briefly thought about the number of doors he had seen.

‘It is not an amount that can be written down within the day.’

First of all, it seemed that he had to focus over the most important things first.

Lucion pursed his lips. ‘Let’s see how I use the information you guys have been recklessly collecting.’

This was a place of information.

“Let’s get started.” Lucion gave instructions to Hume.

“I’ll tell you what you should be doing today.”

“Yes. Feel free to tell me. I don’t need to sleep.” Hume’s expression looked very happy for someone who was about to be overworked.

Lucion was happy, too.

‘A competent worker is always good.’

Lucion first instructed Hume to look at the Cronia and the Jeven family and remember the smell of their information. He had to look at the whole information, which took some time anyway.

‘And then I’ll take a quick glance at the information.’ Lucion was happy just thinking about it.

He is very happy right now.

He was able to walk around normally, and he was able to stop by the store and buy things normally.

It may seem ridiculous to others, but the peace that came after more than a decade was a happiness very precious to him. So he had no intention of forgiving anyone who touched Cronia and tried to take away his happiness.

Lucion looked at Russell while Hume looked at the information related to Cronia.

[What else?] Russell, who looked pitifully at innocent Hume, opened his mouth in response to Lucion’s earnest gaze.

“Can you trace back the darkness of the ruled ghost?”

Lucion, too, knew because he had controlled ghosts.

That the darkness of the warlock exists in the ghosts that are ruled. That darkness was the inherent darkness of a warlock.

[You mean you want to find the warlock who ruled over the ghosts?]

“Yes. That’s right.”

Even if he could reign over the ghost that had been ruled, the method was not what Lucion himself wanted now.

Russell pondered deeply.

Thanks to Lucion’s natural mental power and Ratta, he grew faster than others, but it had only been about 3 weeks since he became a Warlock.

“Teacher?” Lucion urged him as he found Russell silently staring at his darkness.

―Ratta can help you with anything. So Russell can tell Lucion anything.

Even Ratta urged Russell.

Lucion, thinking of bamboo spears, rolled the darkness round to form a cylindrical shape.

The darkness, which was laughing in a new form, quickly began to spread around, saying it was boring.

‘... Stay still!’ Lucion forced the spreading darkness into a cylinder and clenched his teeth.

Maintaining the form was harder than he thought.

Steam leaked to the point that he felt feverish, the mask doing nothing to minimize the pressure of it.

Lucion pierced a bamboo spear made of darkness into the ghost’s chest before the shapes were further scattered around.

Whoosh!

– The reason you stab near the chest of the ruled ghost is to forcefully connect your darkness with the darkness of other warlocks.

‘It’s connected...’

Lucion began with his fingertips and felt his whole body drawn into that ghost.

– If you are connected, find the true darkness hidden within, rely on your senses.

For a moment, his vision darkened. Lucion felt as if he were trapped in a room with no light.

―It’s been five seconds!

Ratta spoke to him.

Twenty-five seconds left.

Lucion reflexively rolled his eyes, even though he knew he couldn’t see it. He closed his eyes and looked for the darkness, relying on his senses.

As if the bamboo spear he had stabbed had become a cane, he made a ‘tak-tak’ sound at will.

Tak.

It wasn’t on the left.

Tak.

It wasn’t in the center either.

Tak. Tak.

Looking to the right, the sound grew faster and faster.

‘Find it. Pull up your senses.’

Lucion felt a tingling sensation for a split second.

―27 seconds!

With three seconds left, his heart began to beat faster and faster.

―28 seconds!

Lucion reached for the source of the tingling sensation.

―29 seconds!

He felt something on his fingertips.

―30 seconds!

At the same time as Ratta’s last words, Lucion pushed his darkness back through his fingertips.

Shhh!

The screen passed in front of his eyes as if the video had been rotated quickly.

‘Here is... ‘

The name of the region came into his mind at will.

The flickering screen stopped when he saw two people, one wearing a black robe and the other a red robe.

‘The blue thread...?’

The sudden appearance of the blue thread connected themselves to each other.

Lucion moved his eyes again. He had to find the Warlock. His gaze stopped on the head of the person in the black robe.

He could see the darkness flickering.

‘It’s him!’

Lucion noticed that the one wearing the black robe was the warlock who ruled over this ghost.

‘The guy next to him... .’

As the man in the red robe lifted his hood, the warlock turned his head in amazement.

For a moment, it felt as if their eyes met.

Tak.

Just in time, the darkness that had been connected to the controlled ghost was cut off.

Vision came back at once, as if what had just happened was a dream.

‘Did you just make eye contact with me?’

Lucion looked at Russell for a report, puzzled.

Poke.

At that moment, he felt a chill coming from behind him.

An unknown word appeared in the air, and soon turned into a blue wave and attacked Lucion.
