"Aha!" Rex grinned upon seeing his new stats but then...now that he thought about it "Where was his Damocles’ sword?"
"Thou art the most ignorant of all men!" Cronus’ hoarse voice spat out.
"Look, just tell me where it is, okay..."
"No, fight this battle with your might alone. The fight would end swiftly with the aid of the sword and I don’t want my entertainment short-lived. Don’t worry, I’ll reward you.
"Damn you and your entertainment!"
The assassin then dropped Brenda on the ground, his eyes turning cold and menacing. "You...if you’re here, then it means my mate failed to kill you." He sighed. Well... he was just a weakling, though! What else can I say than this is my lucky day... I’ll get paid double for doing both kills." He raised his hands triumphantly.

On six, Rex snapped his gaze to his left, just as Sunny flickered back into view. Rex lunged forward, throwing a punch laced with Aether energy. His fist connected squarely with Sunny’s jaw, sending him staggering backward with a surprised grunt.
"Gotcha," Rex grinned, satisfaction flickering on his face.
But Sunny recovered quickly, rubbing his jaw, his face twisting with anger. "You’ll pay for that," he growled, lunging forward with a flurry of attacks. Daggers flashed in rapid succession, slicing through the air as Sunny closed the distance.
Rex dodged one swipe, then another, narrowly avoiding the blades. His agility helped him keep up, but Sunny’s speed and precision forced him back. He felt the sting of a dagger grazing his arm, drawing a line of red. Rex bit down his frustration, determined not to let this guy get to him.
"Come on, Rex," Cronus’s voice chimed in, unhelpfully upbeat. "Shall we break out that Aether spear or keep dancing around this fool?"
"Oh, you think I’m not trying?" Rex muttered, dodging another swipe just as Sunny’s form began to flicker.
One... two...
This time, Rex didn’t wait. He focused, gathering Aether into his palm, feeling the energy solidify as he pictured the spear in his mind. The familiar hum of Aether vibrated through his arm as the spear formed, its glow casting a faint blue light.
"Fancy trick," Sunny sneered, blinking back into view just a few feet away. "But a spear won’t save you."
"Oh, won’t it?" Rex spun on his heel, thrusting the Aether spear with a burst of speed. Sunny dodged the initial strike but stumbled as Rex redirected the weapon, sweeping it low and catching Sunny off balance. The spear connected, ripping through his leg and sending him crashing to one knee.
"Argh!" Sunny winced, his face twisting in pain as he clutched his bleeding leg.
Rex took a step back, breathing hard, his mind racing. Stay alert. He’s not finished yet.
Sunny’s eyes burned with fury. "You little... You think you’re clever, huh?" He forced himself to his feet, though his leg shook with the effort. "This ends now!"
Before Rex could react, Sunny raised both arms, conjuring a swarm of shadowy tendrils that twisted and writhed, forming into dozens of dagger-like shapes. With a savage grin, he unleashed the tendrils in a deadly hail of blades, all aimed straight at Rex.
"Wait what?! How does he have the shadow ability?" Rex was confused
Rex’s heart pounded as he threw himself to the side, barely avoiding the onslaught. One dagger grazed his cheek, another his shoulder, and he rolled to his feet, gasping for breath. He’s faster when he’s angry. I need an edge.....
"Perhaps now is the time to use that lovely Aether spear again," Cronus mused, unruffled. "If you don’t mind my little suggestion, of course."
"Yeah, you don’t say," Rex gritted, focusing again on the feel of Aether in his hands. He closed his eyes, letting the spear form, focusing harder this time, willing it to be stronger, more solid.
Sunny charged at him, his form flickering, but Rex was ready. He counted each flicker, timing it down to the second, waiting for the moment he knew Sunny would reappear.
One... two... three...
Sunny raised his dagger for a killing strike, vanishing just inches from Rex’s face.
Four... five... six...
"Now!" Rex roared, thrusting the Aether spear forward just as Sunny materialized.
The spear pierced through Sunny’s chest, the energy flaring with a burst of power. Sunny’s face twisted in shock, his mouth opening in a silent scream as he staggered backward, clutching the Aether weapon embedded in him.
"G-guess you’re... not as weak as you looked..." Sunny’s voice was barely a whisper as he sank to his knees, his eyes fading.
Rex took a shaky step back, breathing heavily as he watched the assassin slump to the ground, defeated. A small, triumphant grin spread across his face as he let the Aether dissipate, relief flooding through him.
"Well done, Harbinger," Cronus’s voice rang in his head, satisfied. "Though, might I say, you could’ve done it faster."
"Faster?" Rex snorted, exhausted but exhilarated. "Maybe next time you should try fighting an invisible assassin!"
"Oh, I’d love to," Cronus chuckled. "But where would be the fun in that?"
