Volume 1 - CH 8

Volume 1: The Light

“Ugh, my body’s breaking apart…”

I massaged my aching muscles, as I get into bed.

As you can imagine, Brother Damien’s training was tough.

He has a lot of experience as a warrior, so he knew the limit of my physical strength, and he pushed me right to the edge of it. This is going to get me fit in no time.

‘Huh… I think I’ll sleep better today…’

Both my magic power and physical strength have been consumed today, and I fell into a deep sleep with the pleasant sense of weariness…

•×•×•×•

“Suuu, shoon…”

Late at night, as the moonlight shone on the room.

I suddenly felt something strange and woke up.

“Ugh, yawn~….”

I raised my body slowly while rubbing my eyes, which were threatening to close back up again.

It was then that I saw a ball of light floating in front of me.

“What?”

It looked similar to the Light Magic “Rye”. However, I am not using magic.

I looked around, and I don’t see my master either. Then who in the world is it?

I nervously observed the light ball.

The light ball didn’t stay in one place, but rather, it was moving around me; back and forth. It was as if it was observing me.

After a while, it finally stop6 in front of me, as if it was satisfied.

It then began to grow rapidly and took on the shape of a human.

“Hello there human, can you see me?”

“—-?”

The sudden event confused me, and I couldn’t help but subconsciously shook my head.

The mysterious person saw this and smiled happily, saying, “Thank goodness.”

It was a very beautiful woman with shiny long blonde hair. She looked a little older than me and looks to be in her late teens.

Floating in the air, she stared at me intently.

Who in the world is this person…?

“Uh, who are you?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, how rude of me. I know I startled you with my sudden appearance.”

She said, as she straightened up and introduced herself.

“My name is Serena. I am the Light Spirit that has been attached to you.”

“What, a spirit!?”

I was surprised by her unexpected words, that I accidentally raised my voice.

Aren’t spirits supposed to be invisible, how can I see her so clearly and even talk to her?

No, I can’t trust her out of the blue, but it doesn’t look like she’s lying either. I need to talk to her some more first.

“Uh… my name is Callus.”

“I know that much. I’ve been around you since you started using magic after all.”

She giggled and laughed.

If she’s really is a spirit, then surely she…. No, that’s pretty embarrassing! Does she also follow me to the bath or something?

‘Don’t worry, I close my eyes when you’re in the bath or something.”

“No…”

I don’t feel reassured at all.

I have many more things I need to ask.

“I can tell by looking at you that you are not a normal person and that you could probably feel magic power. But if you really are a spirit, why can I see you?

“It’s simple. It is because you are blessed.”

She then pointed to my left chest.

I had no idea what she meant by “blessed,” but she’s pointing there, which meant there was only one answer.

“Is it the ‘curse’ you’re talking about?”

“I don’t know the details either, but it is said that people born with it are often able to see spirits.”

“I see…”

I had no idea. I mean, I don’t think there are many people who know about it.

People like me who have a natural curse are called “Abominations”, but most of the abominations die early. Therefore, even if one say that they can see the spirits, none would believe it.

I never thought that thanks to a curse, I could talk to a spirit. Master would be surprised if he knew.

“So… what made you appear before me, Serena-san?”

“You can call me just by my name, I’ll call you Callus too. Magicians and spirits are one and the same, so there shouldn’t be any distance between them, no?”

“Okay… Serena…”

Although it’s a little embarrassing, but I’ll call her by her name.

Serena laughed in satisfaction.

Then Serena smiles with satisfaction.

“Hmmm, what do you want to say, Callus? I’ll answer anything”
