Volume 1 - CH 14

Volume 1: The Light

“What do you mean by revoking the ‘Sage’ title?”

I could barely ask that amidst my confusion.

Master’s disciple, McBell, explained it to me. Naturally, he doesn’t know me, so he looks and asked, “Who is this kid?” But now is not the time for explanations!

Gory-sama was to receive the title of “Great Sage” in Magic City. Originally, the awarding ceremony was scheduled to take place two weeks from now…, but that schedule was suddenly moved up by about a week. If we don’t leave now, we won’t be able to make it in time for the ceremony.”

“Oh, no…!”

The “Great Sage” is a title above that of a Sage and can only be attained by the very best of Magicians.

It is a very prestigious title.

It is a blessing that Master can become such a person, but if he goes to Magic City now, he will certainly not be able to oversee my special training any longer.

Magic City is so far away that I don’t think I can go with him. Although the pain has subsided, my body is still too weak to endure the journey.

“Can’t you do something about that? And if you don’t come, you’ll be stripped of your Sage title, isn’t that too much?”

“Alas, Callus, what the President says cannot be overturned.”

“But that’s…”

This is too much. Even Master’s authority doesn’t have any say to this?

The Magic Association was such a terrible organization…!?

“But it is unusual for the President to be so reckless. McBell, you haven’t heard how it happened, have you?”

When Master asked, McBell shuddered! And his body shook.

“I was going to ask about it, but the President pressured me.”

“No need to apologize. I’m sure it won’t help you anyway. But still… Hmmm… What should I do?”

Master looked down, troubled.

If Master goes to Magic City, my training will not be followed. I don’t know how long it will take him to come back, but if it takes more than six months, I will die from the curse if I can’t use ~Light Heal~.

But if Master didn’t go, not only would he not become a Great Sage, he would also be stripped of his ‘Sage’ title. That should be the scariest thing for a Magician.

He would lose his status, honor, connections, and all the facilities for researching Magic.

If Master is gone, the effects of the ~Light Heal~ would wear off tomorrow, and I would return to my former bedridden life. But…

I did not hesitate to make this choice.

“You should go ahead, Master. I will be fine. I will complete ~Light Heal~ even without you.”

“Callus, you…”

There is still half a year to go.

I might be bedridden but I could still practice magic.

“I also have Serena, I’ll be fine.”

I am definitely anxious, but I don’t want Master to get in trouble because of me.

“So please go… I’ll be fine. And become a Great Sage!”

After I said this, I turned around and ran away.

“Hey, Callus! Wait!”

I thought I heard a voice calling out to me, but I didn’t look back. I felt like if I did, it would slow down my resolve.

“…… hah, hah.”

Arriving back at my room, I crawled into bed, holding my aching chest.

Then I cower under the covers with my eyes squeezed shut to prevent my anxiety from swelling any further.

I’m afraid of going back to those bedridden days. I’m scared, but I’m… okay with it.

Because I would never want Master’s life to be ruined because of me.

“Farewell Master, take care…”

I said goodbye to the first Master I had ever had in my life, and fell into a deep sleep.
