Volume 2 - CH 7

Volume 2: Red Girl

The day after Kris arrived.

When I woke up in the morning and left my room, I found that the mansion is noisy.

I wondered what had happened. I had a bad feeling.

“I’m not going to sit here and wait, I’m going alone.”

“Ah, wait, Sieg!”

Sieg-san and Brother Damien walked out of the mansion together.

This… seems like something really bad happened. I went to Shizuku’s side, who was near the entrance, and asked what had happened.

“Good morning, Shizuku. What happened?”

“Good morning, Callus-sama. Actually… Kris-sama seems to have disappeared, and we are currently searching for her.”

“What? Kris might be in the garden training her sword or something.”

I thought that my idea was a possible one, but Shizuku shook her head.

“His Highness Damien, Sieg-san, and the servants have already searched the area around the mansion, but have not been able to find the Miss. Furthermore, we found a note left by Kris-sama just now, in which she wrote, ‘I’m going to see the Flying Dragon’.”

“What!?”

I am at a loss for words.

The Flying Dragon is a powerful monster. I don’t think Kris would be a match for it, no matter how much stronger she was compared to other kids. Even Kris should know that, so why would she be so reckless!?

“No, maybe it’s…”

I then think back to our conversation yesterday.

‘Thank goodness. Don’t do that, please, because people will be worried.’ that probably had the opposite effect.

Kris wanted more attention from Sieg-san. She probably thought that if she went to see the Flying Dragon without permission, he would be very worried.

If so, that would be bad!

I am responsible for what I said. I should’ve thought more before I said it!

But now is not the time for regrets. I have to find Kris-san before it’s too late!

“Shizuku! Do you know which way my Brother went?”

“I think they went to the back of the mansion because there was a sighting there yesterday.”

“I see…”

If we want to look for Kris-san, it would be better if we don’t go in the same direction. But which way should I go?

I thought about it… and then something popped up.

“Serena! Are you there?”

I called out and Serena appeared in front of me.

Thank God, she is here.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m sure you’ve already heard about what happened, but I need your help to locate Kris. I’m sure Serena can think of a good way.”

“Hmmm. Well, it’s not that I can’t think of anything, but… I can’t do it.”

“……Eh?”

What do you mean you have an idea but you can’t do it?

Don’t tell me you don’t care? But didn’t you help when I asked about the name of Master’s spirit, so why suddenly not help now?

As I was puzzled by Serena’s unexpected words, someone called out to me from behind.

“Hoho. You seem to be having a hard time.”

I turned around and saw Master. He was wearing a black robe and hat, looking like he was ready to go out.

“Master! Serena said she can’t do anything!”

“I guess so. Although I can’t see Serena, I can tell by your reaction.”

Master fiddles with his magnificent beard and said to me, “However, Callus, it’s not that spirits don’t want to cooperate. It’s just that you’re asking the wrong way.”

“Spirits are neutral entities. Take using magic for example, you have to pay the price of magic power. Spirits aren’t ‘convenient beings that does everything for you’. It is not the spirit’s fault for not helping you, it is your fault for not ‘properly’ asking for help.”

“I’m asking the wrong way?”

“Yes. Requests come with a price. The situation is different this time from when you told me about Yenia. This time, a person’s life is at stake. They cannot just do it for free. If you’re asking something, you must pay the corresponding price.”

When Master said this, Serena nodded her head. It looks like he’s right.

“As the old man said, I really don’t want to be mean to you, but it’s a rule that we spirits can’t do what you say unconditionally. But if you’re in trouble, I will lend you help because it’s not someone else’s affair. ”

“Since this is the case. What do you want me to do?”

“Well, it’s difficult so I don’t think I can help much if I just get the usual magic power. It would have to be a more special reward.”

A special reward?

I thought about it, but couldn’t come up with anything.

Then, perhaps seeing me at a loss, Master pulled out a small stone from his pocket and showed it to me.

It was just a plain white stone and it’s nothing special. What is it?

“This is called the Dwelling Stone, also known as the Spirit Stone. You can use it to make offerings to spirits. Try it.”
