Chapter 28: Undead & Bane of all life
The warmth of the sun made Cristian's eyes open and his pupils dilated as he took in the vast sight before him.
He stood right in the middle of the road with skyscrapers on both sides of the asphalt road. The desolate air made his brows knit and as he accessed the place, creases formed on his forehead.
He almost felt like he appeared in a city that had been abandoned for decades, but he knew this part of the city. It was close to the central park and his favorite coffee shop was a couple of meters away.
But now the city had lost its vibrant atmosphere, for this place was as silent as a graveyard and that smell of rot in the air almost made him identify this place as a literal graveyard.
'What happened here?' Cristian queried inwardly and looked around but couldn't sight the people that came with him.
He wanted to wait for Lia, but it seemed like there was a hidden timer and the moment he accepted, it began counting. "Shit! Did I leave them there... with Medusa!" he thought out loud and wasn't bothered since no one was there.
The place had lots of green as thick veins coiled around the skyscrapers and some part of the road had lush grass that crept up to the walls of buildings.
"No, Lia is there," he muttered with slight relief.
"I'm here, Lord," Lia's melodious voice echoed in his mind and Cristian deftly drew Burning Fury and turned, but no one stood behind him. Neither was there any presence tens of meters away from him.
"L... Lia, is that you?" He queried when he heard a giggle in his mind. "Yes, I'm in your shadow. My time is out, so I can't appear, and don't fret. Both girls teleported with you and they are not far."
Cristian calmed and relaxed. He felt awkward about embarrassing himself before such a beautiful lady, even if she was his maid. "Do you know what happened here?" he queried while straight at the bright skies.
"Well, a good percent of these new humans can't absorb mana, causing the weaker ones to turn into undead, and they feasted on others. I can't sense any life aura, so a good part of this city belongs to the undead."
"Why am I not surprised?" Cristian sighed as he tightened his grip on the hilt. Maybe the people he came for were already dead, but he had to confirm before moving on.
"Are zombies hated that much?" Cristian queried as he felt Lia abhorred them greatly.
"Zombies are the lowest and not even considered undead by some, for they can regain their memories and go back to their lives; this is why THE MOTHER gives them the chance to fight for another opportunity for life.
But the other undead are beings of death and destruction. They have eradicated the empire's kingdoms. Hundreds of millions have died at their hands and each death just boosts their number so you can understand why they are hated."
Cristian nodded but his mind wasn't firm on hating anything or any race at this moment and it rubbed Lia the wrong way for her how deep this was connected to her Lord.
Shortly after his death, they appeared. From the same continent, he was killed, and they had destroyed more than ten great empires in just thirty years after they launched the first war.
Same with THE MOTHER, Lia also knew how deeply these hated beings were tied to the Bane of all life. This powerful race hated one thing, one man and one entity, and that was the Bane of All Life!
The undead were a residue of his affinity, so they were inferior, which made the paragon of the undead loathe him.
While chatting with Lia, he walked past destroyed cars, cracked roads, and abandoned buildings.
After a while, stopped at the coffee shop which he had failed to visit before the earthquake.
The place was ruined with dried bloodstains, cobwebs, and a thick layer of dust. "How is this possible? It's just two days since we came here, so how can such an amount of dust appear?" he asked Lia, who hummed but didn't speak.
Cristian felt she knew something but wasn't sure about informing him. "What is going on?" he queried in a deep tone and she sighed. n-/O--v-/E(-l--b-)I/(n
"I think it's been more than a month, judging from the look of the city."
"A month! How is that even possible!" Cristian exclaimed, only to realize everything from his transmigration and also reincarnation didn't make any sense. Compared to those, this wasn't much.
"Sadly, it's the truth. You need to find both girls, as this place isn't safe to roam alone." Lia warned, and Cristian bolted out of the shop and followed Lia's direction.
But as he got closer to Anna's location, the growls got louder and louder, causing Cristian to halt. He previously thought it was in his head, but he could hear the cacophony of moans and growls whilst the dragging of feet against the hard, rough road shook his eardrums.
'Zombies!' He said inwardly, in alarm that their number won't be small, but he wasn't planning on backing out or running like last time.
Anna was somewhere around that area. Then, if it meant slashing through hundreds of undead, then he would firmly proceed.
"This is going to be helpful." Lia's voice rang in his mind and he still struggled to adjust to this fresh development as having such an alluring voice in his head does a lot of havoc on his pitiful virgin body.
Luckily, his pants were strong enough to hide this embarrassing sight.
Along with Lia's words, a necklace shimmering with a sky blue glow, a pair of metal inlaid boots, and two fangs appeared on the ground.
"You forgot to open the treasure box of the fire wolf and you even gained an upgradable accessory!"
"upgradable?! Is it the necklace?" he queried, bent his sword so he could squat, and reached out to the necklace shimmering with an allure that would provoke greed from many.
