"Jay, tell me..what is the most reasonable excuse if someone did not pick up a phone call?" Raymond who sits beside Jamal asked. He decides to sit at the front passenger seat when they headed to their next destination, Kuala Lumpur.
Jamal scrunched his eyebrow for a moment, thinking of what best answer he could give to this man who stared at his phone like it is his enemy. "Um, they annoyed?" He said and peek at him for a second before changing his answer. Raymond glared at him which make him suddenly feel chill.
"I mean..maybe, that person was busy? Or had something urgent coming up and didn't check on his phone?" He lost idea as to why someone wouldn't pick up his call.
"Hmm..that's unlikely. He knew who I am, he wouldn't dare to ignore me." Raymond said with a low voice and put back his phone inside his pocket. He then averts his eyes to the outside of the window. Looking at the city at night time.
"Oh yeah, Mr. Ray, your hotel-"
"I'm not staying at the same hotel as them. I stayed at my penthouse. So, you can send me first." Raymond interjects his word and gives him the address of his penthouse.
"Okay." Jamal nods his head, understood.
…
At the back passenger seat.
'You look distracted, did something happens?' Luna sends a text to Brian which he looks at his phone's screen for a second before he averted his eyes to the kids at the back. They're sleeping right now.
'I had something I would like to admit to you. But, probably not now. You have your own problem to settle down first. So, maybe after this trip, would you like to go to Seattle with me?'
Luna sighs before she replies to him. 'But the kids' preschool starts next week. If it hard for you now, I'll wait. No worries.' Just after he read the text, he smiles at her and takes her hands to his lips. Kiss it softly while mouthing at her, 'Thanks'.
Luna smiles back at him and pulls back her hand. When she was about to avert her eyes, she saw Raymond staring at her from the rearview mirror and she quickly turns her head to the side. Looking at the outside of the window.
His intense gaze clearly shows that he filled with jealousy but she ignores it. Well, its payback time. He can feel what she felt back then when seeing how intimate he kissing Sarah back then. Twice.
To not clouded her thought with the past, Luna distracting herself to look at the outside's scenery. The city is full of tall buildings and lights. Different from Singapore which has better safety and fewer cars on the road. However, it still such an amazing place.
When their cars stop at the residential area, Luna frowned a bit. He looks up but she didn't see any hotel signboard that they're supposed to stay.
When Raymond opens his car door together with Jay, she looks at him from the inside of the car. He then opens the automatic sliding door and looks at her with pleading eyes.
"Can Alex stay with me for tonight?" He asked which then Brian's frowned.
"Why? I don't-"
"Brian can place his men around my penthouse in a safe range perimeter, so, he'll safe with me." He then looks at Brian and the man sighs before he rolled his eyes.
"But I-" Luna still feels worried.
"Please?" He interjects her again. His voice is soft and gentle to her hearing which hard for her to refuse.
"Or, you can stay with me too." He gives another idea to her which she immediately shakes her head. Refuse the idea.
"No thanks, you can have him tonight..but," Luna stops her word when he interjects her again.
"I know..I'll make sure he'll be safe with me." Luna nodded and he slowly takes Alex from his car seat and carries him into his arm carefully. Afraid that he will wake up from sleeping. But lucky Alex is like her mother. Once sleeping, he'll be deeply in his dreamland.
Jay also pops up at the door and apologetically asks them to wait for a while, while he helps Raymond to bring his luggage into their suites. And both of them agree to wait.
Brian immediately sends his people to guard up Raymond's penthouse from a safe range perimeter and while waiting, Luna turns to him.
"So, could you tell me a bit of highlight to your story?" Luna lifting her eyebrow to the man.
Smile faintly, Brian says, "Well…I met my ex-fiance's last night." He said while looking at the outside of the window, he was sure Lily was asleep and will not hear their conversation right now.
"Huh? I never heard you had a fiance." Luna was a little bit surprised by what he told her.
"I had, once..there's a lot of things that you don't know about me, Luna."
"Yeah, like your real identity. Brian is not your real name, isn't it?" Luna remembers when Raymond greets him, he uses a different name and he acknowledged it.
Nodded his head, he says, "Yeah..it's a name where I used to get my wife back then."
Luna blinks her eyes, "You even lied to your wife?" Clearly shocked, but then she feels like she was in the same position as his wife now. Being tricked, or is it?
"Not my intention, but yeah, the end justifies the means. But, don't get me wrong, I love her. For years. But I was bound with the political engagement and its the only way I could have her." He stares at the car floor and sighs.
"But, I don't know Luna..she doesn't seem to love me as I do. And maybe because I break someone else heart and now the karma gets back at me?"
Luna didn't follow his story but still listening to him and wait for him to finish his word.
"So, the ex of yours…."
"She somehow looks different from the last time I see her and it kinda scares me a bit. She falls for me back then but I never had the same feelings for her. So, to break the engagement, I marry the girl I liked and she was..caught with some trouble. I don't know why, but I didn't help her at that time. I am a bad person, Luna. And maybe that's the reason why I can't have a happy ending with the one I loved."
He rubs his face a few times before he sighs again. "She said something that hurt my feelings, she questions about my wife's love for me and it struck me deeply..because I know…she.." He shut his eyes and swallow hard. "Maybe, never love me back."
Luna was speechless. She doesn't know what to say because she doesn't know his past at all. All she knows is he married this girl named Lisa and she could see that he really really love her. Like she was the treasure that no one else could have her.
Caressing his hand, Luna said. "She loves you. If not, why would she give you a little cute baby girl?"
Once again, Brian sighs. "She's…." Brian stops his sentence and pressed his lips together. 'probably not my daughter, Luna. I never dared to do the test. But, I love her just like my daughter.' He could only say it inside his heart about the hurtful fact that Lisa still unable to forget that man until her last breath.
Luna still waiting for him to finish his sentence and he shakes his head after a moment. "You know what? You probably right. She loves me." He said to cheer himself.
"I knew she loves you." 'Because I do the same too and I have Alex now.' She only said it inwardly.
A few minutes later, Jamal returns back to the car and drive to their hotel in the middle of the city area.
