Chapter 383
“Is that a stingray...?” Siegfried narrowed his eyes in disbelief after realizing that the flying object was a giant stingray.
The stingray was definitely far from ordinary as its entire body stretched at least two hundred square meters, and it was transparent like a jellyfish.
Siegfried flashed his Rune of Insight at the stingray.
[Ghost Stingray]
[A magical creature summoned through ancient magic.]
[It is an extremely rare creature that is able to easily pass through any barrier, and it is capable of steadily flying even in high altitudes.]
[Type: Monster]
[Race: Chimera]
[Level: 200]
[Note: It is able to carry heavy objects on it.]
It turned out that the oncoming Ghost Stingray was the Church of Osric's vehicle of choice to land on the Sky Tower. Siegfried easily made the connection to the Church of Osric after spotting the various zombies and followers riding on its back.
He should have realized, the moment he entered the Sky Tower alone, that the Church of Osric was not going to climb the tower through normal means.
However, he did not expect them to fly straight to the top as there was a barrier formed with ancient magic that prevented outsiders from using an airship or warp magic to reach the peak.
It wasn't that Siegfried did not think of flying in like them, but it was just impossible for him.
‘I should stay hidden for now.’
He decided to lower his head and wait.
An hour passed...
‘Should I take a peek?’ Siegfried decided to pull himself up and take a peek at the Church of Osric, but...
‘What’s this?’ He tilted his head in confusion after seeing something hideous in front of him, but it did not take him long to realize what that something was.
He saw a pair of hairy legs, and there was something hanging between them that was trickling water from its tip. Yes, it was none other than one of the Church of Osric followers taking a piss with his pants down.
‘Ack! My eyes!’ Siegfried screamed inwardly as he closed his eyes shut. However, he could not keep his eyes closed as the water was getting stronger and stronger. It was also about to go over the edge.
‘This crazy bastard!’ Siegfried cursed inwardly as he reached up and grabbed the follower’s ankle.
“Hmm?”
The follower belatedly noticed something grabbing his ankle, but it was too late by the time he realized it.
‘Fuck off!’ Siegfried yanked the follower’s ankle and pulled him over the edge.
“AAAAAACK!”
The follower screamed as he fell down the tower with his pants and underwear down, but the other followers failed to hear his screams.
Clack! Clack! Clack!
They were so busy setting up the altar that they couldn't pay attention to their surroundings.
“Hurry up!”
“Hey, you there! Bring that over here!”
“We need to move faster!”
On top of that, powerful gusts of wind blew past the rooftop every second, and the noise from the wind completely drowned the follower’s screams.
‘Bleurgh! I didn’t have to see his tiny worm... Damn it...’ Siegfried grumbled as he flashed his Rune of Insight at the remaining followers.
***
‘What the...? These guys are strong...’
Siegfried learned through his Rune of Insight that the Church of Osric followers were quite strong.
‘I don’t think this is going to be easy...’
All of the followers, except for the high-ranking priest and the workers, were quite strong, but the one wearing black armor stood out the most.
[Chaos Guardian]
[A combat unit of the Church of Osric.]
[Their stats are enhanced by ancient evil magic.]
[Type: NPC]
[Race: Chimera]
[Level: 250]
[Class: Chaos Guardian]
[Abilities: Physical Damage Resistance B, Poison Resistance]
[Warning: They are stronger than their level, and caution is advised against them.]
And that wasn't the end of it...
[Chaos Executor Ulcera]
[A high-ranking warrior of the Church of Osric and a superior version of the Chaos Guardian.]
[Type: NPC]
“Keep working, you lot!”
“Hurry up!”
The followers resumed work on the Dimensional Communication Device-002.
“I think I have seen you before. What’s your name?” Ulcera asked.
“Proa—My name is Siegfried van Proa,” Siegfried revealed his identity.
“So you’re the King of Proatine... The heretic responsible for ruining numerous plans of our church,” Ulcera said, immediately recognizing Siegfried.
“Yeah, that’s me.”
“How are you here? I don’t think the Sky Tower is easy for someone like you?”
“Well, it wasn’t that difficult,” Siegfried replied with a shrug, and then he exclaimed, “Oh right!”
“...?”
“Can’t you guys move faster next time? I’ve been waiting here for two days!”
“Hmm... It seems there was a leak...” Ulcera muttered to himself as he ignored Siegfried this time. Then, he looked at Siegfried and said, “That’s that. I hope you know that you’re messing with the wrong people, and you'll have to pay for this with your life.”
“Nah, it’s you who messed with the wrong guy,” Siegfried replied with a shrug.
“You’ve got a big mouth.”
“I’m big elsewhere, too.”
“...”
“Can’t believe me? Give me five minutes, and I’m going to make you—“
“Die.”
Ulcera did not play along with Siegfried’s childish jokes and commanded the Chaos Guardians to attack. Dozens of Chaos Guardians charged at Siegfried without uttering a single word.
***
‘I’m dead the moment I lower my guard.’ Siegfried reminded himself and prepared to use everything he had from the get-go.
Fwaaaah! Fwaaah! Shwaa!
He placed down Blaze Field and Shadow Swamp.
Bzzt! Bzzzt!
And sparks burst out of him as he activated Overclocking.
‘I’ll kill the guy at the front first.’ He swung Horse Fly at the head of the Chaos Guardian right in front of him.
Smash!
‘Next is—Hmm?’
He was about to attack his next target, but he noticed something wrong.
Shwiiik!
He was sure that Horse Fly had landed on the Chaos Guardian's head, but the Chaos Guardian didn't even flinch as it swung its sword at him.
Sukeok!
The Chaos Guardian’s sword struck Siegfried’s arm, and blood immediately trickled down his arm.
‘What the?!’ Siegfried was shocked.
The wound was not that deep, and he wasn't bleeding that much.
What shocked him was the Chaos Guardian's HP.
[Chaos Guardian]
[HP: ??????????]
The Chaos Guardian’s HP was still at ninety-seven percent even after getting whacked on the head by Siegfried, and the damage was so negligible that it wasn't even visible on its HP bar.
‘There’s no damage even with Overclocking and the debuff fields?’ Siegfried was shocked. The other Chaos Guardians took advantage of Siegfried's shock to unleash their attacks on him.
Siegfried fought back while defending himself.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
The Chaos Guardians outnumbered him, but the momentum easily shifted back to him as he easily outdid them thanks to his control and reflexes.
Each and every single swing of his Horse Fly would land on a Chaos Guardian's head, and he was doing that while avoiding every single attack at him, and the battle slowly turned into a one-sided fight where only the Chaos Guardians were getting hit.
However, the problem was that they were receiving zero damage.
‘What the heck?!’
Siegfried was in disbelief at what was happening. Most of the normal mobs he faced until now succumbed to one or two strikes thanks to his debuff skills, but that was not the case for the Chaos Guardians.
He struck them again and again, but he failed to deal any significant damage!
‘What’s with their insane defense—wait a minute...!’ Siegfried finally realized it was not their defense that made them so tough.
[Abilities: Physical Damage Resistance B, Poison Resistance]
The Chaos Guardians were not getting damaged by his attacks because they possessed resistance against physical damage and not because they had high defense.
Blaze Field was his trusted debuff skill that shredded the enemy’s Defense. However, Defense and Resistance were two different stats, which meant his main skill was useless here.
