Chapter 16: Bloodline Power Awakening
(14/15 Souls)
After consuming 5 of the demonic wolves’ souls, Blake walked over to the last wolf that still had its soul floating above its body. He didn’t know what would happen to him the moment he reached level 5 and unlocked his bloodline power, but one thing that was sure was that his excitement and anticipation continuously rose up the closer that he got to the final and last soul that he needed to consume to level up.
Blake then grabbed the last soul with his right hand and took a deep breath. Then with determination filling his heart, Blake opened up his mouth and swallowed the soul into his body.
(15/15 Souls)
[You have leveled up!]
[Congratulations on reaching level 5!]
[Prepare yourself, host! Your bloodline power will be activated soon!]
.....
Blake patiently waited for the so-called bloodline power awakening to happen, but even after a full 10 seconds, there was nothing going on with his body that he started to think that the system that was given to him had malfunctioned and it failed its task.
Just when he was about to check whether there were any changes going on inside his body by closing his eyes and feeling every inch of his body, just like when he first discovered the nether, Blake was suddenly jolted out of his focus and his eyes jerked wide open as an unimaginably excruciating pain assaulted his chest, particularly his heart.
The pain that he felt was so severe that he felt as if it had traveled all over his body, taking away his ability to even stand as he fell to his knees while his right hand was still clutching his left chest, and his left hand along with his knees were the only things that kept him from laying face down on the ground.
The pain went on for the next 15 seconds. But for Blake, the one that was currently dealing with the pain, it felt like a whole hour had passed by. Fortunately, after those 15 seconds, the pain in his chest completely went away as if nothing had happened.
Blake was completely flabbergasted by the sudden disappearance of the pain that he just stared at the ground that was only about 10 inches away from his face blankly for a solid 5 seconds before he finally decided to sit down on his butt.
He calmed his breathing down as he checked all over his body to see whether there were any changes on it, but other than a never seen before demonic runes appeared on his left chest, right in front of his heart, there was not a single other change on his whole body.
By this time, Blake had completely calmed down as even though he was hurting so bad that he felt like dying about a minute ago, there wasn’t any lingering pain that could make it hard for him to recover from the initial shock of the severe pain.
Blake was about to get up from the ground before checking his status to see whether anything had changed, but before he was even able to support his body up, he suddenly heard the system’s voice once again in his head.
[Starting the process of transforming into an adult darkness demon. Please brace yourself, host!]
Blake heard the whole sentence loud and clear, particularly the last sentence where the voice had explicitly told him to brace himself. However, a one-second warning was definitely not enough to prepare him for the pain that was about to come.
Blake, who was halfway through supporting his body up to stand up, felt another sudden, agonizing pain coming from his back, and this time, he was less fortunate that neither of his hands had the chance to go to his front to support his body, resulting in his face being planted on the ground as he jerked his body forward due to the intense pain that he felt right in the middle of his back.
Different from the first pain where he felt his chest was being carved by a steel rod and his heart being gripped very hard, this time, he felt there was something that tried to get out of his back by piercing through his skin and muscles apart.
It wasn’t as excruciating as the first one, but this time, the pain lasted for about twice the amount of the first pain that Blake even considered the first pain to be better than the second one. And by the time the second pain disappeared, it left Blake with an uncomfortable feeling on his back as if something had attached itself to his scapula.
Blake then turned his head to see the thing that was sticking on his back, but he certainly hadn’t expected that a pair of small wings had made Blake’s back their home.
Just like the color of his skin and his hair, the pair of wings were also jet black in color that it didn’t look even slightly out of place that they were found on Blake’s back. It wasn’t the first time that Blake had seen wings on someone’s back as Vera also had her own wings, but the shape and the look of his wing didn’t look like Vera’s wings which were more bat-like with a smooth exterior and also flexible-looking.
His wings, on the other hand, looked sturdy with visible bone structure that was covered by some type of scales that was clearly nonexistent on Vera’s wings.
Initially, Blake still had a sliver of doubt that he had really grown wings on his back, but after he found himself capable of moving the wings with a mere thought, he was convinced that it was indeed the case. He now had his own wings.
Blake wanted to try and flap his wings as soon as he could to see whether he could fly using those tiny wings that were not even as long as his arm, but before he did that, Blake suddenly remembered something else that piqued his interest more than flying and that was...

Blake nodded in understanding as he saw that he had lost the juvenile part of his race as he had probably become an adult darkness demon after consuming enough souls.
However, that wasn’t the main reason why he had opened his status page, rather, it was for the new information that had just appeared on his status page, right under his stats.
Blake read every sentence about his newly obtained bloodline power and after each word, the excitement in his heart grew more and more abundant as his eyes were practically glowing by the end he finished reading the whole description of his new power.
“Isn’t this a little bit too... OP??” He thought out loud as he processed all the new information that had just entered his head.
