Chapter 48: Unfortunate Monkeys (1)
“ROARR!!!”
After releasing a fearless roar toward the monkeys who had tried to harm him, Robus was ready to give the nearest monkey a piece of his fist.
Keep in mind that Robus’ fist was even bigger than the monkey’s head and Robus had more than enough strength to push the monkey’s skull into its own body if he squashed the monkey’s head hard enough.
And with the injured monkey being frozen still after seeing that none of the attacks had affected Robus and it had faced Robus’ roar straight in front of its face, its soul was only one slap away from being taken out of its body.
Robus had already pulled back his fist and made the monkey’s head as his target.
But at the last moment, before he snapped his forward to attack, Robus suddenly heard Blake’s voice shouting from somewhere not too far away from him.
Robus didn’t know why Blake told him to do that, but after hearing Blake’s voice, Robus changed his fist into a palm, and instead of aiming his fist toward the monkey’s head, Robus punched the monkey’s chest instead.
.....
An audible crack was heard throughout the area, signaling that Robus’ palm strike had caused several of the monkey’s bones to break.
But after seeing that the monkey was still somehow able to stand up and quickly turn its tail before running in the opposite direction, it showed that several broken bones weren’t enough to bring down the tough monkey.
The three other monkeys were also frozen when they saw their attack didn’t mean anything to the huge gorilla and they only stared at the gorilla’s fist that was about to crush one of their friend’s heads.
But after seeing that their friend had still somehow survived Robus’ attack, the three other monkeys quickly woke up from their stupor as they tried to help their injured friend to survive.
The glow on their hands began intensifying as not only two earth spikes appeared near them, but instead four of them had sprouted up from the ground.
And just like before, they quickly used their hands to pick up the earth spikes before throwing them towards the imposing gorilla and the humanoid demon some distance away from them.
They had learned that the gorilla was a huge threat after seeing how strong and tough Robus’ body was and now instead of dividing three of the attacks towards the two attackers, the monkeys threw four earth spikes toward the gorilla and the other two towards the humanoid demon.
And with each of them summoning 4 spikes instead of two, they grabbed the remaining earth spikes from the ground and quickly released the second barrage of attacks.
Blake now knew what kind of attacks the monkeys were capable of doing and had been prepared to receive them.
Added with the fact that the number of earth spikes being thrown at him has been decreased from 3 to 2 on each barrage, Blake was capable of dodging all four earth spikes that had been aimed at him.
Robus on the other hand, had his workload increased as now 4 earth spikes were coming at him at the same time, which means 8 in total had been thrown towards him in the past few seconds.
But different from Blake who actively tried to dodge the earth spikes since he could actually be affected by even one of them, Robus charged forward with his left hand covering the front of his face and just blazed through the barrage of earth spikes.
Just letting his body be hit by the earth spikes wasn’t necessarily a good idea since the earth spikes were considerably tough and the speed and power the monkeys were throwing them at were nothing to be scoffed at.
However, just as the earth spikes were tough, the dark earth armor that covered Robus’ whole body wasn’t any less tough as it was made from darkness element-infused rocks, and it was certainly sturdier compared to the ordinary rocks or other ordinary earth spells in general.
Just like before, the 8 earth spikes crashed against the dark earth armor before the earth spikes crumbled down and were destroyed into pieces the moment they went head to head with the dark earth armor.
And after summoning those 8 earth spikes and throwing them in rapid succession, the monkeys needed time to activate their bloodline power to activate again, hence leaving them defenseless against the charging gorilla.
Fortunately for the monkeys, the 8 earth spikes that they had just released had actually carried enough power behind them that it forced Robus to finally stop moving forward for just a split second, giving the monkeys the chance they needed to also retreat, following their injured friend.
And it would have worked out well since even though their bodies were smaller than Robus and they had smaller steps, their strength was not weak, as can be seen from how powerful the earth spikes they had thrown.
And there were also four of them, if they split up in different directions, then Robus could only choose to chase one monkey before losing track of the others.
It really should have worked very well. If not for the fact that the monkeys underestimated the humanoid demon too much and gave him the time and chance to draw demonic runes and cast spells while they were busy throwing the earth spikes toward the huge gorilla.
The monkeys had only spent at most 2 seconds to throw all of their earth spikes towards Robus, but for Blake who could draw spell runes in under a second, 2 seconds were much more than enough for both of his hands to draw the runes for a single spell each.
And by the time the monkeys realized they had the chance to retreat, Blake had finished casting his spells a whole second ago.
The three monkeys were about to put their strength into their legs and chase after the injured monkey who had forced its body to run away.
But before two of the monkeys were able to kick the ground and jump away, many darkness tendrils, dozens of them started appearing all around them and began latching their sharp tip onto the monkeys’ bodies.
The two monkeys were startled of course, but they quickly realized that they needed to get away from the darkness tendrils, whatever they were.
Unfortunately for them, the darkness tendrils came from all directions and quickly went after every part of their bodies.
And with dozens of them appearing at the same time, it was already too late for the monkeys to do anything the moment the darkness tendrils had shown themselves, let alone when some of them had successfully attached themselves to the monkeys’ bodies.
As a result, two of the monkeys were now completely incapacitated, with 1 injured monkey on the run, and the other healthy monkey trying to keep its shit together as it suppressed the immense dread that it felt when seeing a huge gorilla running towards it while its other friends had either been rendered wounded or useless.
