Chapter 273 273 – A New Resident

I saw the figure made up of moving blocks with the giant eyeball in the center again. I ventured to ask. "Actually, who are you? What do you want with me?"

At first, I didn't expect that thing to answer because it looked more like a machine than a sentient being.

"You can communicate with me already?" But that thing made a robotic voice instead. "Your abilities are increasing, and that is something to be concerned about, Anomaly. You shouldn't exist in this world."

I narrowed my eyes. "You haven't answered my questions."

"I have no obligation to answer you. I must exterminate you immediately before anything untoward happens. This is for the survival of this world. That is my duty."

My head links things together.

"Are you the god of this world?"

That thing was silent for a few moments. "I exist for the good of this world."

"Are you the one who appointed the person to be the prophet?" My emotions started bubbling up.

"These concepts called demon lords and prophets are a way to protect this world."

I'm even more confused. "What do you mean? So, you also choose who becomes the demon lord?"

"And your appearance messed everything up."

I opened my eyes and found the sky was already decorated with orange evening light. Xenora is still faithfully beside me, and now I feel a bit better.

"How was the selection?" After stretching my body a little, I got up from the chair, trying not to think about my dream with that 'god.'

eaglesnovɐ1,сoМ "There are three of them left, my lord…." Just as Xenora said that, one of the minotaurs fell under his opponent's fist and immediately lost consciousness. "Ah, now there are only two left."

I looked around and found the bodies of the minotaur scattered. The fights that took place seemed very fierce, evident from the injuries they suffered.

Now all that was left was a minotaur with black fur tinged with red, facing its light brown opponent. They were both so out of breath and staggering like drunken people.

"Come on! Just a little more!" I give the last push. "Show that you really want to be a general!"

The black minotaur screamed with all its might, and its opponent did the same. The two of them then ran forward to each other, caught hands, and pressed their heads together, clashing with each other's strength.

But a few seconds later, the black minotaur jumped up and kicked the brown fur in the chest. His opponent was knocked over, and the black minotaur wasted no chance.

He stomped his opponent like crazy, reminding me of my own moves.

An ordinary Minotaur would have continued to clash with power, but he did it differently. That is a plus for me.

"Enough!" I said. "You are the winner! What's your name!?"

The black minotaur backed away from his immobile opponent, knelt on the ground, and bowed to me. "My name is Brigon, my lord. I am ready to serve you."

"Good." I nodded. "Your inauguration ceremony will be held tomorrow. Now rest and enjoy my gift meal."

"I really appreciate that, my lord." He bowed again. "I am very grateful."

Szur came out from downstairs and came over to me.

"We're done. Take care of all these contestants. Treat the injured and bury the dead." I ordered him.

"Very well, my lord." The little creature bowed and left us again.

"Rarely do we get new people." A minotaur with dark green fur rests his chin on the counter in the reception area for new residents.

"That's because the prestige of this place has gotten even higher with the rise of lord Vorn." A succubus accompanying him examined her fingernails. "They become reluctant to come here."

"This is boring." The minotaur yawned widely. "I asked to work here because I can't stand fighting too long. But it turns out….. Hey, how about we do that after our shift?"

The succubus shook her head. "You always ask for the same position. It's much more boring for me."

"Oh, come on." The minotaur snorted. "You're the only one who never insulted my bad stamina. Why you protested with something else now?"

The succubus lowered her arms and sighed. "But this time, I asked for a different position."

"Fine by me…." The minotaur's words stopped because he saw a person in a hooded robe from a distance. Instead of carrying a torch to light the streets at night, he uses his luminous hands.

"Welcome to Vorn city." The succubus stood up and gave a friendly smile. "Please, state your name, occupation, and reason for coming here."

"Ah." The man, who apparently had light brown hair, was silent for a moment. "I'm from Ebonyward in Ashenburg, used to work in a magic shop…. I heard that this place is still accepting new occupants?"

"Yeah." The minotaur replied, ready to write in a book. "But you must tell me why you want to stay here."

"My former life was very boring." He replied. "Well, I think it will be more exciting here."

"And we have to see your face, handsome." The succubus pulled down the person's hoodie, then raised an eyebrow. "Are you okay?"

That man looks sick with dark eye bags on his face, his body is also skinny, and his skin is pale, as if he lacks sunlight.

"This is what I usually look like." He shrugged and wore a faint smile. "People think I'm sick all the time. But I'm fine."

"You haven't said your name yet, young man." The minotaur chimed in.

"Ah." The man smiled again. "I'm Ethan. Ethan Eastwood."

"Your name is the same as our former general's son." The minotaur wrote in his book.

Ethan Eastwood frowned. "Former general? Do you mean Mr. Ritor? He has stepped down from his position?"

"Yeah. And tomorrow, there will be a ceremony to inaugurate a new general." The succubus ran her finger down Ethan's chest. "After this, you will have to wait for the resident acceptance test, which will be taken tomorrow. How about you spend some time with me? You do look sick, but I can feel you are great in other ways. And I will give you something you will never forget."

"Hey, you promised me." The minotaur protested.

Ethan chuckled. "Sorry, but I'm too tired after my long journey. I appreciate your offer, but I have to decline."
