Davis's expression was solemn as he locked glances with that old man who could almost be referred to as old bones.
Everything in his body was drooping, his skin sagging, his eyes white and dull as though he was blind, his waist bending as though he was going to fall down at any moment, yet Davis knew for a fact that this person was capable of utter destruction. But for some reason, this person radiated a gentle nature that made him confused.
"Me? I'm just an old fool from the Light Dragon Clan."
"…!"
Everyone was shocked.
The Light Dragon Clan sent an Ancestor-level character? Looking around, they saw that there was no Dragon Alliance, Phoenix Alliance, or Kirin Alliance's Ancestor present here. Only the Fire Phoenix Clan's Ancestors were here, actively targeting the Emperor of Death, even going as far as to sneak themselves into their Patriarch's life ring.
Davis also inwardly grumbled.
The Dragon Alliance sure was powerful, but he was aware that they were this powerful in the first place, including the Earth Dragon Clan and the Fire Phoenix Clan. He also knew the reason why those monsters weren't here hunting him down, all because they knew he wouldn't go down without taking down one or two of them with him.
After all, he was an Anarchic Divergent, an existence that struck fear in the hearts of every power present as it possessed the capability to destroy a major power overnight with a ridiculous tribulation, whether it might be theirs or hijacked another person's tribulation.
Knowing all this, those Ancestors didn't want to die but exhaust him into becoming easy prey, and hence, commenced a Divergent Hunt with so many Ancestors present.
Most of them weren't even at Level Four Immortal Emperor Stage, unlike the Fire Phoenix Clan's Ancestors, but he guessed that they were the weakest Ancestors. But the one who was talking to him…
Davis clenched his teeth, "But what do you mean? What am I taking so far? Does this seem like taking too far to you too?"
He waved his hand, gesturing at the sea of blood below him that belonged to the soldiers who dared to hunt him and harm his allies.
"No." The old man shook his head, "I'm asking you why you're keen on painting yourself as a vile being."
"…"
Davis was momentarily stumped before anger rose to his head.
"Isn't that what you people throw at me, so what's wrong with me becoming that? Aren't you people happy to be justified? With this, we both have the so-called justification to erase each other from this world!"
"Sigh, a young person like you shouldn't be stubborn." The Light Dragon Clan's Ancestor shook his head again.
"In a conflict, if one party doesn't take a step back, then nothing can be solved. If both parties took a step back, then the problem could be solved. However, if none of you would like to take a step back, then the problem can never be solved. The boundless sins of both parties will just continue onto the next generation, bringing them misery and spinning this yin-yang wheel of vengeance."
"You-"
"Before you say anything, I would like to say that we old ones are well aware that we're creating a villain."
Davis was about to say something when he quickly got interrupted, causing him to narrow his eyes.
"If that isn't enough, we blame him for being a villain if things don't go the way we planned, resorting to the hammer of justice when the one holding is also equally sinful. The 'you' right now thinks, 'Everyone does it, so what's wrong with me doing it?'"
"That kind of thought is understandable yet… sad."
The old man lowered his head, shaking his head. His utterance made Davis frown, not understanding what was going on.
Was he buying time for other Ancestors to arrive? Did he have something else in mind? What the hell was going on here to be taking a lesson on philosophy? Was this an attempt to bring redemption to him?
"Old man." Davis's gaze became sharp, "I understand what you're saying, but I'm far past thinking about strangers when my family's life and death are at stake, not to mention that I will not let the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan's suffering end up being vain. I won't surrender, so my only choice is to have you all surrender. To that end, I'm not going to target the innocents in the Fire Phoenix Clan and Cyan Soul Rat Clan."
"Mhm?"
The old man made a confused sound, causing Davis to nod his head.
"Indeed. With my exile, I've also made a schedule to announce my intentions in the upcoming days. For one, I wouldn't attack any unrelated person who chooses to leave the Fire Phoenix Clan and Cyan Soul Rat Clan's Prefectures."
"…"
Everyone couldn't help but look at the Emperor of Death, narrowing their brows.
What bullshit was he spewing? Didn't he just say that he would massacre all nine generations, which metaphorically meant ending their entire bloodline, which also meant ridding the lives of the entire Prefecture?
After all, who was going to care about ants when walking to a destination? Wouldn't they trample on it and not waste their time or would they avoid the ants and let the opportunity they grasped seep out of their palms? Obviously, they would do the former. Anyone would.
"I see." However, that old man instead raised his head and displayed a rabid smile, "In that case, you still have some hope. Since you were born as an Anarchic Divergent, couldn't you rid this world of that pretentious falsehood?"
"…!"
It was not only who was Davis who was stunned by the Light Dragon Clan Ancestor's proposition but the others as well.
"Do you want me to reign this world as a ruler or something?" Davis raised his brows.
"If you can, why not?" The old man chuckled, "I have seen so many things with this pair of old eyes. It only lacks a fine emperor who could unify it to establish common laws."
"Light Dragon Clan's Ancestor! What are you saying? His existence is despised by the heavens!"
"That's right. If there must be a ruler, it can only be achieved by someone blessed by the heavens!"
Quickly, there were many voices of disagreement from the other Ancestors, some even scowling at the thought of a wretched Anarchic Divergent towering over them. While they had their own reasons for rejecting the Emperor of Death, the person himself seemed to be unamused.
"Common laws?" Davis sneered, "That crap doesn't work as individuality always wins, and I'm not interested in taking care of millions, if not billions and trillions of people. The only thing I'm interested in is taking care of my small family, and no matter who comes in between, I shall merely… retaliate."
"…"
The Light Dragon Clan's Ancestor stared deeply at Davis as though trying to see through his true thoughts. It wasn't until a few seconds amidst the silence that he opened his mouth again.
"Then you who possess no wild ambition makes you worthy of being left alive."
Davis gasped as he suddenly felt the pressure cast on him through the barrier being relieved. It was like he was granted a pardon, causing him to breathe again.
"Everyone, the Anarchic Divergent has revealed that he has no intentions to lord over you. Would you still raise his blades against him? Then there's no going back from what's going to happen."
The old man turned around, "My Light Dragon Clan will not participate in this nonsense. Those who are after his karmic virtue and treasures, be prepared to receive the consequen-"
*Ripp!~*
The old man's head flew into the air, causing numerous eyes to widen as they saw a white-robed young man walk past him with a halberd in his grasp.
Blood rapidly sprayed from the old man's severed neck. However, the head in mid-air merely stopped its flight and floated, turning to look towards that white-robed young man.
"Youngster. Don't you think that it's rude to cut my head off like this?"
The white-robed young man's gaze flickered as he came to a stop. He turned to look at the old man's head, who creepily smiled at him as he narrowed his brows.
"You have a strong soul."
A cold voice emanated from him, causing the old man to chuckle.
"And then? Have you come to behead your target, Venerable Warrior Zermatt?"
