Chapter 40

C40 – Choo Qin’s Test!

Choo Qin felt a twinge of disappointment. He had come to study the knowledge of runes, yet the Beginner Class turned out to be focused on physical training.

As he watched the enthusiastic youngsters around him, he sighed. He had made his choice, and now he had to see it through in silence.

“Choo Qin, that’s your name, right? It’s almost your turn. The first thing we’ll do is a speed test.”

A girl with a ponytail gave Choo Qin a reassuring pat on the back, signaling that he was up next. Her name was Kuan Xue, and she seemed quite adept.

Besides Kuan Xue and Mi Xueyin, Choo Qin’s group included two other girls: Zhang Yun, who was somewhat tall, and Ye Yun, apparently a distant relative of the Jiaang family from the Earl Mansion.

Approaching the testing apparatus, Choo Qin’s disappointment deepened. The so-called speed test was essentially akin to the shuttle runs of the modern era, with the only difference being the use of magical instruments for timing, and the track was nothing more than a bare platform.

This was nothing like the Magic Academy Choo Qin had envisioned.

Where were the scenes straight out of Harry Potter? The girls? The magic wands?

Now, here he was, a Sorcerer, ready to upend tradition? Running with children?

The more he dwelt on it, the more frustrated he became. When the test started, he couldn’t muster the energy to perform to his full potential.

“Mi Xueyin has already awakened the Wind Element and is on the verge of becoming a Mage Apprentice. How could you possibly be faster than her?”

“I’ll check for any elemental signs on you after class. You might have traces of the Wind Element.”

It was then that Choo Qin realized this world was not the school he remembered. The logic he once knew didn’t apply here at all.

Resigned, he nodded at Zhu Mo, choosing to remain silent. Revealing his true identity now would undo all the effort he had put into staying undercover.

The next test was endurance, and Choo Qin was now wiser. While being tested, he used his senses to gauge the performance of other group members, targeting a skinny boy whose scores were consistently just below his own.

Unexpectedly, right after the test, Zhu Mo approached him again, his voice laced with surprise.

“Choo Qin, you didn’t give it your all just now, did you? With your speed, your scores should be higher.”

“Take the test again. I want to see what you’re truly capable of.”
