After taking a bath to release her stress, Xiong Jingfei laid down on her bed. Just as she was about to close her eyes, her phone dinged, notifying her a text message came through. Opening her sleepy eyes, she read what was sent to her.
Xu Suying: [Did you get your drawing back?]
Xiong Jingfei frowned, no, and she left another item behind too. She began writing out about her day at the cafe but erased it. It was harder than she thought to explain everything through text. These are the times Xiong Jingfei wished she could talk, so she can explain everything in one go.
It took almost thirty minutes to summarize everything before sending it. Xu Suying thought Xiong Jingfei had knocked out already. But, of course, when she saw what was texted back. She did not take long to text back at all. Bombarding Xiong Jingfei's phone with lots of questions.
Xu Suying: [something this good happened, and I wasn't there!]
Xiong Jingfei: [This all started because of you. If you didn't let me go with a stranger, then I wouldn't be in this mess!]
Xiong Jingfei sent that message, but she knew it wasn't Xu Suying's fault. In which, Xu Suying's returned message caused Xiong Jingfei to become more confused. Questioning what the h*ll happened that night!
Xu Suying: [Okay, it's a little bit my fault... I did pull you off him, but you clung onto him unwilling to let go!]
Well, this was something Xiong Jingfei was unable to recall doing. The last thing she remembered was being pushed down by Zhao Fan, and someone helped her up. Then she faintly recalled Feng Huan saying, Yang...
Xiong Jingfei gasped and hit her pillow in frustration. She thought she heard the wrong name that night!
Xu Suying: [Besides, the person you went with was also your fiancee! I didn't let you go home with a stranger. I came along too and checked you into a hotel. I was only kidding about you nailing him...]
Wait, her fiance and Xu Suying were the ones who took her back to a hotel? Then how in the world did she end up with his cousin? On top of waking up the next day with him in the same room? Ah, what a headache!
These were the thoughts of Xiong Jingfei trying to find some answers to her questions. Which only one person held those answers, but she didn't have the face to face him.
Xiong Jingfei: [Bad friend! Then why weren't there with me the next day?]
Xu Suying: [I do have a valid excuse! I had to go with my mom to the shrine in preparation for my two years ritual. I forgot it was set up early the next day. I would have taken you to my house, but you said you never want to show up at my home drunk... I'm so sorry! I promise to make it up to you!]
Xiong Jingfei couldn't refute her because all of it was a valid excuse. She never wanted to show Xu Suying's parents her intoxicated side. What a fool she will make out of herself in front of them. Second, Xu Suying's family is strict on making sure to have Xu Suying's two-year ritual go on without a problem.
Xu Suying and her were childhood friends and stayed as friends into their a.d.u.l.thood. They attended the same school and did everything together. To Xiong Jingfei, Xu Suying was like an older sister. While she was the younger one, who did things she shouldn't have. Meanwhile, Xu Suying covered up for her. For the past years, she mellowed down, and Xu Suying went the opposite way.
It also covers the fact that she knows everything about Xu Suying that there is a need to know about. Including those times when Xu Suying would cry about ghosts bothering her.
All the kids at their school during that time called her creepy and weird. Indeed it was strange, but Xiong Jingfei didn't have the right to judge because she too has her own issues. She had a secret of her own, and will never tell others of it.
She considered Xu Suying brave for voicing it. When she didn't dare to do it after being label cursed by Li Roulan. Then following along were the whispers among the servants. They didn't think Xiong Jingfei at the time understood them, but she did.
"Go away!" Eight-year-old Xu Suying screamed at the eight-year-old Xiong Jingfei. She sniffed a couple of times, "Why... Why does no one believe me? I do see them!"
Xu Suying's high pitched scream startled the timid Xiong Jingfei. But, she braved her heart and slowly approached Xu Suying on her knees. Treating Xu Suying like she was a lost cat ready to attack at any given moment.
The teachers were currently scrambling to look for Xu Suying, the temper tantrum child. She apparently just ran out of the classroom for no "reason." Which were the lies they tell themselves to appear as upright teachers.
They watched and listened to what the kids in the classroom labeled Xu Suying. None of them spoke a word of encouragement nor tried to prevent it from happening. They joined along and labeled her the temper tantrum child.
Luckily for Xiong Jingfei, she happened to see Xu Suying enter the storage room on her way back from the bathroom. It was one of the last places the teachers will try to enter.
"Don't cry," Xiong Jingfei said, going closer to Xu Suying one knee at a time. When she was an arm's length away, she used the rag she grabbed along the way to wipe away Xu Suying's snots and tears.
"Go away! You're just like the others. Go ahead and make fun of me!" Xu Suying cried, slapping Xiong Jingfei's hand and pushed her away.
Causing Xiong Jingfei to lose her balance and hit the back of her head on the wall. Because of her short frame, she was able to avoid getting cut at the back of her head. She was inches away from hitting the metal shelves above her head instead of the wall.
This caused Xiong Jingfei a small injury, but a fright in Xu Suying, who never meant to hurt anyone.
Xu Suying stuttered, "I-I didn't mean to!" Then in a quiet voice, she said, "I'm sorry..."
Xiong Jingfei grimaced at the pain flaring at the back of her head. She was used to it. This pain was very little to her compared to what she experiences at home. Instead, she grabbed Xu Suying by the hand and looked into her eyes, "I believe you. If no one believes in what you said, I will believe you."
"What?" Xu Suying asked. She didn't slap Xiong Jingfei's hand away but held on a little tighter. Holding onto the small glimpse of hope that someone believed in her.
"I believe you, so stop crying already. I'll beat up anyone who bullies you again." Xiong Jingfei confidently said, putting on a reassuring smile.
"Why?" Xu Suying wondered, why would someone she never spoke to believe her words?
Xiong Jingfei never answered Xu Suying's questions that day. She just knew Xu Suying was not lying to her. No one can understand Xu Suying's pain better than her.
Every night she closes her eyes, the sound of the crying woman in a white robe appears. As always, she sits and listens to the woman's haunting cries. Hear the woman muttering a few words as if she was calling for someone. But she can't quite hear the name either. Then it repeats again and again.
Very few people knew about her condition, and she will keep it that way. Who can explain the truth about both their conditions? So, she understands the pain Xu Suying has to endure. Hers was at night, but Xu Suying was an everyday.
