"The Feng family is under arrest for assisting former Commander Xiong Guozhi in the rebellion against the country." The leader loudly read the golden silk decree in his hands. "Take them all and leave no one!"
It felt like someone struck Feng Huan in the face, and it probably wouldn't hurt as much as being accused of a crime they did not commit. He doesn't believe that Commander Xiong Guozhi and his father will betray the country!
"Let me have an audience with his majesty!" Feng Heng exclaimed, hitting his forehead on the ground. He repeatedly hit his head as he repeated, "Please!"
In all of Feng Huan's life, he never saw his father lowered his head the way he did to someone ranked much lower than him. Even for his majesty, their forehead did not touch the ground but on their hands.
"Please! I am begging you, sir!" Feng Huan shouted, slamming his head on the ground too. His father lowered himself all for the sake of saving his family. He, too, will let go of his pride like his father. "Please let my father have an audience with his majesty!"
"I cannot do that for you. My order was to arrest the Feng family until further investigation." The leader rolled up the golden decree. "Please do not resist, I don't want to shed any blood tonight."
Feng Huan clenched his hands into a fist as his forehead was still on the ground. Is this what his family gets for fighting for the country? There was no such thing as an investigation for them! If anything, it wasn't going to be a fair one.
"Take them!"
Just like that, the entire Feng Manor's people were hauled the same way as Xiong Jingfei and her people. Then put into a cell that was too small for them while they waited for their sentence.
Except, Feng Huan had a cell to himself and isolated from the rest. It didn't take long for him to find out why he got put in a separate cell from the rest.
He was dragged out of the prison cell and put into an interrogation room.
Inside the room, his arms and legs got ironed down to the wooden chair. The leader that arrested his family and people sat facing him behind a table. He was the interrogator.
Spread on the table were a brush, inkstone, and papers.
Feng Huan thought they were going to question him about the rebellion, but they did not ask him anything related to it.
"Feng Huan, did you have an affair with Xiong Jingfei, who is the first daughter of Xiong Guozhi?"
"What?" Feng Huan growled and narrowed his eyes. "What did you just say!?"
"I repeat," The interrogator looked up from the paper and dipped his brush in the inkstone. "Did you and Xiong Jingfei have an affair during the time both of you were serving the country?"
"We never did!" Feng Huan roared. "How dare you accuse us of such a thing!?"
These people… If it weren't for the iron clamping Feng Huan back, he would have punched the interrogator. A question like this can destroy Xiong Jingfei's reputation and life!
The interrogator made a gesture to one of the soldiers in the room with them. That soldier quickly stepped out to step back in, dragging someone along with him.
Feng Huan turned to look at the woman brought in, and he instantly recognized her. Isn't she...
"I have here a witness who saw the affair between you and Xiong Jingfei." The interrogator pointed to the woman on the ground. "Tell us everything you saw between Feng Huan and Xiong Jingfei."
"I… I…"
"There isn't anything to be afraid of as long as you are speaking the truth." The interrogator tapped on the table. "Now, talk! I don't have all day waiting for you."
"I saw him and my Miss together alone in a tent!" Xiong Guang shouted as if those words were the truth to what she saw. "They were in General Feng's tent alone late into the night! No one was there with them!"
"Lies!" Feng Huan growled, moving the chair an inch closer to Xiong Guang. "How dare you spread lies about your own master!?"
"I-I'm not lying! S-sir!" Xiong Guang cried and shook her head. "I saw them with my own two eyes! They were… They were…"
"They were, what?" The interrogator asked with interest and leaned in closer, afraid he will miss what was said next. "Remember, no one will hurt you for telling the truth."
"Xiong Guang, those eyes of yours should be gouged out! Your tongue pulled for telling lies!" Feng Huan shouted. How can they do anything when soldiers surrounded them day and night? Even alone, those outsides can still hear them! "You know we are innocent!"
"T-they were…" Xiong Guang looked away, unable to look at Feng Huan. "They were doing what a wife and husband do on their wedding night."
The interrogator smiled in satisfaction with her answer. It was the exact testimony he needed to put down on the paper.
"Xiong Guang!" Feng Huan screamed, unable to control his anger. "You don't deserve the surname given to you! You betrayed the family that took you in and your master!"
Xiong Guang looked up at Feng Huan from the corner of her eyes. She bit her bottom lips and banged her head on the ground, "Please take a look into this matter! Everything I've said is all true!"
"Alright, that was all I needed to hear from you." The interrogator nodded his head and gestured to the soldiers to take Xiong Guang out. He clicked his tongue a couple of times, "General Feng, oh, General Feng. What misfortune has befallen on you, label as a traitor and have an affair with an engaged woman?"
Feng Huan tried to kick the interrogator with his legs, but sadly, they were tightly bound to the leg chair.
"Thank you for your cooperation, General Feng." The interrogator took a sarcastic bow. He whispered, "None of this would have happened if you chose wisely the other night."
