Feng Huan took in a sharp breath and fell on his knees. He reached out to touch the grandmother's frail hands, "Mother?"
"I-I… I never thought I would ever get to see you again." Feng Huan's mother violently coughed. "I waited… I'm so happy that I got to see you again even though I'm not your mother in this lifetime."
"You will always be my mother," Feng Huan smiled, one that is rarely shown on his face. "Always."
A small conversation continued between them, and Xiong Jingfei wanted to give them privacy. However, Feng Huan's mother wouldn't allow it because she didn't finish what she wanted to say to Xiong Jingfei yet.
"Feifei, promise me that you'll let go of the past…" Feng Huan's mother desperately begged. "It… It will only bring you more pain. T-try to be happy in this lifetime."
"I'm sorry, but I can't make that promise." Xiong Jingfei calmly replied, "You should know why I can't do it."
Feng Huan's mother knew she couldn't reason it out with Xiong Jingfei. She took a look at Feng Huan, who had become an a.d.u.l.t compared to his last lifetime. He had so much more to live for, but it was cut short by those who wanted them gone. Then again, it was much better than living the life that Xiong Jingfei did after surviving it.
"Even till the very end, I am asking a very selfish request from you." Feng Huan's mother began crying. "I didn't protect you and couldn't keep the promise I made with your mother. I have always been sorry that I took everything out on you."
"There's nothing to be sorry about, aunty." Xiong Jingfei wiped away the tears streaming from Feng Huan's mother's wrinkled eyes. "I should be thanking you for returning my memories for me. I would have still been wondering like a fool and ended up falling in love with him again."
Feng Huan listened to both of them as they talked about a past he doesn't know. A past that happened after his life came to an end.
"The truth is-!" Feng Huan's mother began hyperventilating as she barely mumbled, "Don't trust…"
"S-someone!" Xiong Jingfei shouted, running out of the room to get help and get Feng Huan's mother's family in this lifetime.
Feng Huan's mother cried as nothing else would come out of her mouth, and she wasn't sure if Xiong Jingfei heard her. Please figure it out before it's too late, Feifei.
Everything became chaotic when the family of Feng Huan's mother came running into the room, so both of them stepped outside.
"Here." Xiong Jingfei took out tissues from her backpack and handed them to Feng Huan. It was odd for her to see him cry and that he wasn't a robot wearing human skin.
Feng Huan grabbed the tissues but didn't take them away. Instead, he kept his clenched hand on Xiong Jingfei's hand as he quietly said, "She's gone. I hoped she was happy in this lifetime."
"She was happy." Xiong Jingfei confidently answered. He wasn't sure if she said it to comfort him, but it did make him feel better.
"How did you know she was my mother?" Feng Huan asked after calming himself down. He guessed that she was his mother, but how did Xiong Jingfei know it was her?
"It was the lullaby."
Xiong Jingfei smiled as she began humming it to Feng Huan. His expression was everything that she needed to see to know he knows the song too. On his face, warmth began to spread as he remembered how his mother used to sing it to him to bed.
"Your mother and mine were sworn sisters in the past. Your mother was the one who taught my mother this lullaby after all."
Unfortunately, Xiong Jingfei came to know of this much later in her past life. One person was preventing her from knowing it, and it was none other than Li Roulan. She took advantage of Xiong Guozhi's absence, so secretly manipulating the manor was easy.
"I've wanted to ask you this." Feng Huan's tone suddenly became serious. "Why here? Why did she wait here for you? Is this also the same place Yin Yuan mentioned where your memories returned?"
"Correct. This is where I made my vow with him." Xiong Jingfei took a look at the scenery surrounding them. Then her eyes landed on the pathway to the waterfall hidden by the trees. "The only person who knew of this was your mother. That's why this place held a special meaning to me. It was the start of everything."
"Him?" Feng Huan seemed puzzled at first but realized who that 'him' was. "What did happen to you in the past?"

"Z-Zheyan?" Lu Weisheng was holding onto his dear life as he called Yang Zheyan's name. Today wasn't his day, but worse, Yang Zheyan was not acting like his usual self.
They were on their way back when the nephew got told his grandmother passed away, but they didn't expect to find Xiong Jingfei and Feng Huan engaging in a deep conversation. It was deep enough that they weren't aware of their presence.
Although, they couldn't hear the conversation. Oddly, Yang Zheyan didn't say or do anything about it. The possessive Yang Zheyan that Lu Weisheng knew wouldn't have let any of that happen. He would've stepped in and become another Yang Zheyan that Lu Weisheng still wasn't comfortable seeing.
"Darling," Yang Zheyan reverted himself to his sweet-self as he approached Xiong Jingfei. "Are you ready to go home?"
Xiong Jingfei returned the same smile, "Yes, let's go home."
Lu Weisheng wanted to scratch his head in frustration. How did Xiong Jingfei know this grandmother in the middle of nowhere? According to his background check, this grandmother was not in there!
There was also the silent Yang Zheyan that said something that kept bothering him!
["Weisheng, I don't know what to do anymore..."]
He had a strong feeling that Yang Zheyan had more to add to that sentence, but he didn't say anything anymore as it was already giving too much away. What is Yang Zheyan thinking and planning to do?
