Chapter 14: Discovery
During the following days, I kept going to the hallway after class and waited for any hint of the brown haired beastmen's appearance, and yet nothing.
At the same time, I tried to not act weirdly infront of Mina and not let her discover my plan.
She was starting to get suspicious though as she noticed the change of behavior and that I wasn't spending time with her anymore, but she didn't ask questions.
On the weekend, we went out to the city together and bought stuff, it was fun and we had a good time.
But I couldn't help but wonder...
"Is this really worth it? Will I succeed? Or will it all be a waste of time?"
Those thoughts lingered on my mind even while I was in bed, the week was over and the villain hadn't appeared.
I had tried a total of eight times, and was losing hope.
I had six days left before Mina's hostage situation and the main character saving her.
But wait... why am I even doing this in the first place if I know Daemon will resolve the situation fully by himself?
Isn't it a stupid plan and a huge waste of time?
No... it's not.
"I am just trying to help the main character solve the situation faster so that Mina won't be scared for too long..." I knew I was lying to myself, but I couldn't bring myself to look at the truth, I wanted to reassure my pitiful existence and give purpose to my actions.
"I need to find a way."
I will find a way.

"Kaine, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, thank you"
"A-alright"
Mina looked at me worriedly and walked away.
It had been four days since my last reality check.
There were now only two days before the incident, and yet, he didn't show.
[Anger meter: 99/100]
I was reaching my breaking point.

"He's not coming."
I was currently standing right beside the hallway.
I had tried every day, and was now on the last one.
If nothing happened, Mina would be in danger, and I could do nothing to stop it from happening.
"I'm an idiot"
But before I could continue wallowing in self-despair, I heard a voice.
"Yeah, don't worry, I'm gonna do it tomorrow."
I then peeked into the hallway to make sure nothing was happening and saw...
A BROWD HAIRED BEASTMEN!
[Anger meter: 94/100]
I guess my excitement dropped the meter, but it doesn't matter, I finally got it!
I found the villain of this arc, and I know knew his face, which means I could now just follow him around and inform the protagonist of his actions!
I didn't waste any time and decided to follow him, he had a small conversation with someone and then hung up the phone, I was too far away to hear him but he was obviously talking to his boss.
The guy was pretty tall, had dark brown hair and was wearing the school's uniform.
He started walking and I followed him while staying out of sight, and after a while, he stopped in another hallway and pulled out a painting from it's spot, thus revealing a secret hole inside of the wall.
"GOTCHA!" I subconsciously screamed in my head, I now knew behind which painting the secret room was.
The villain didn't notice me and entered the room, closing the door behind him, and I didn't dare approach it.
It was 7pm, which meant the sun would set in around two hours, the incident would happen at around 2am during the night as it is the easiest time to capture Mina.
Which meant I had no time to waste.
"Time to get the protagonist."
I hurriedly ran towards my dorm and opened the room to be greeted by the incredible scent, and just as I guessed it, it was Mina cooking something.
"Where are you?" she told me as I opened the door.
"Just somewhere..." I argued.
"Ok" I started noticing that Mina's attitude towards me completely changed, she was now cold and unresponsive to my shitty excuses.
Well, it doesn't matter as tomorrow everything will be resolved, I sat on my desk and wrote the following text on a piece of paper:
[Hey, come to (this) hallway tomorrow at 7pm, I wanna talk.]
Then I removed the paper from the book and hurried back out of the dorm towards Daemon's room.
I wasn't afraid of anybody noticing me as there was almost no student outside, the corridors were completely empty.
And so, I stood in front of his dorm, knocked on the door and slid the paper below.
[Skill: Trial and Error, activated]
Then I ran away as fast as I could back to my dorm without looking back.
"I did it" I sighed in relief as I closed the door behind.
The reason I did all of this even though the protagonist would find the villain and Mina eventually was because it would take him a whole five days from now to discover the scheme, and I have no plan to let Mina suffer that long.
Now the protagonist will have the info about the villain's position, and he will use it tomorrow, then he will save Mina.
"I will finally be able to sleep peacefully knowing that this will all be over"
I smiled.
"Thank god."
But that smile quickly vanished as I saw the green haired elf come out of the kitchen with two bowls of soup in hand.
"What is wrong with me..." I thought.

(Neutral POV)
Daemon heard a knock on his door and then saw a paper slide beneath it, he was obviously surprised but nobody was there when he opened the door.
"Who was it?" his roommate, Leon, asked.
"Nobody I guess, but I have this paper now" he bent down to grab him, then he read the message out loud, "Hey, come to (this) hallway tomorrow at 7pm, I wanna talk."
Leon raised an eyebrow, "weird"
"Yeah, maybe someone's messing with me" Daemon replied.
"Do you plan to go anyways?"
"Umm..." Daemon put his fingers on his chin and scratched it before giving his answer, "nah, the kid didn't even have the nerves to come up to me himself, it's probably a weakling, I don't want to waste my time on such stuff."
"Alright"
Meanwhile, in Kaine's room, the elf and the human were both sitting on their chairs while eating the delicious soup prepared by the girl, there was an eerie silence as none of the two had the confidence to start a conversation with the other after their weird "change of attitude."
But unbeknownst to him, Kaine didn't realize Daemon had actually rejected his invitation, which meant his plan to save Mina quickly was utterly failing at the moment.
