Chapter 40: Intervention
(Neutral POV)
Before Kaine's arrival, the Silvermoon family had hosted a banquet to celebrate their daughter's engagement to a noble from an acquaintance's family.
They had invited the most important people around them to this event, with Mina being the main attraction as she was the one getting engaged.
Beside her sat her new fiance, his name was Cedric and he looked ecstatic at the idea of marrying such a beauty.
"I'm so lucky to have met you" he whispered to her.
"..." she didn't answer, she was looking down and didn't seem to be listening, but he didn't care, after all she would be his soon enough, even if these weren't her real feelings.
In opposition, Julius, the head of the family, was enthusiastically speaking to the others guests, he seemed extremely satisfied by the sudden turn of events.
"I'm glad that you accepted to come here today" he said to a man who was sitting beside him.
"Of course, I wouldn't miss this opportunity for anything" the man smiled.
"I'm sure that our children will be happy together" the man he spoke to was Cedric's father.
"Indeed, I heard that she is a very talented mage, I can't wait to see her in action"
"Hahaha, she is indeed, she is the pride of our family, the only mistake she made was to hangout with that human..."
"Oh? You keep talking about him, but can you show us a picture?" the guests seemed intrigued by the man who apparently swayed Mina.
"Of course" Julius smiled and pulled out a picture of the black haired boy.
"Ouch... he isn't even that handsome, I feel like Cedric is a better fit for her" the guest complimented Julius for his choice.
"Thank you, but I don't want to talk about this filth anymore, let's enjoy the party"
"Agreed"
While they were chatting, Mina was sitting silently, she didn't want to be here, she wanted to be with Kaine, but she knew that she couldn't do anything.
"Hey, Mina" Cedric called her, "what are you thinking about?"
"Nothing" she answered coldly.
"Come on, you can tell me, we're gonna be married soon"
"..."
This is how the first hour of the night went, everybody but the green-haired elf was cheering for the engagement.
"Cedric, my man, give us a toast to celebrate" Julius tapped his back and smiled.
"Of course mister."
He got up from his seat and went to the top of the table, in a way everybody could see him.
"My dear friends, I am honored to announce that I will be marrying the beautiful Mina Silvermoon, I hope that you will support us in the future, I will try my hardest to protect her too!" he lifted his glass and drank from it.
"Cheers!" everybody shouted.
"..." Mina didn't react.
"Now then, let's continue the festivities"
And just as they were about to resume their activities, they heard a loud noise coming from the outside, and then the window that was placed on the wall slightly above their heads shattered.
"WHAT THE HELL?!"
"WHO DID THIS?!"
"EVERYBODY GET BACK!"
The guests started panicking and moving away from the broken window as they all noticed a figure land on the ground.
***
I landed on the ground and looked around, I saw dozens of people staring at me with surprise and shock in their eyes, but I wasn't paying attention to them, I was looking at the person I came for.
And as the smoke started dissipating to reveal my face...
"It's you..." Julius advanced with an angered look on his face, "what do you think you're doing you shitty kid?"
"I don't know, you tell me what I should do" I shrugged and pulled the relic from my pocket, pointing it at him.
The other guests backed away while Cedric him advanced next to Julius.
"Isn't that the guy that was hanging out with Mina?" he asked.
"It is, but don't worry, we'll get him" Julius reassured him, "GUARDS!"
But nobody came.
"I already took care of them" I informed him.
[Skill: Hatred, activated]
Instantly, the hatred aura enveloped my body and became overwhelming, Julius and Celdric could definitely sense it as their expressions suddenly became intrigued by the change of atmosphere.
"What do you want? Mina's father asked.
"You perfectly know what I want you shitty dad" I replied coldly.
"And you think your little toy is gonna scare us?" Cedric spoke this time, in a mocking tone.
I pulled the trigger on the gun, thus shooting a violet beam and aimed it at the wall where nobody was located, completely destroying it upon impact.
Then I looked back at Julius and Cedric who were surprised by this with a neutral expression.
"It's a medium-class relic, not a toy" I said after the demonstration. nove-Lb(In
"How did you get that?" Julius asked.
"I stole it from a black market dealer" I gave him the complete truth.
"I see... wait what?"
"Anyways, what do I need to do to be proven worthy?" worth is a great deal for the Silvermoon family, if they know their daughter is with someone that is strong, they will allow her to stay in school, that's why they didn't bat an eye for Daemon after all.
"You think you're worthy of Mina?" Cedric laughed, "you're just a weak human, you can't even beat me in a fight."
"Is that so?" I smirked, "then come at me, I'll prove you wrong."
"Great idea, I consider Cedric to be worthy, which means whoever wins that fight will decide of Mina's future" Julius smirked, he was amused and all of this was completely beneficial for him.
"Mina is not a fucking toy you shitty father" I roared and looked at him as if he was trash, making the aura around me increase.
"Hahahaha, we'll see" Julius was undeniably stronger than me, so I was lucky he wasn't getting involved this time, but this doesn't mean Cedric was weak, I think he is on equal footing with me currently.
"Position yourselves in one corner of the room and wait for the countdown" Julius announced as if this was a boxing match, "you are allowed to use all your skills, and I'll make sure all the guests are protected by setting up a barrier"
He snapped his fingers and a blue shield appeared around every guest, thus protecting them from all attacks.
"Oh and... you're not allowed to use that thing" he pointed at the relic and without a single moment of hesitation rushed towards me and took it from my hands, well it doesn't matter.
"Let's begin" he said and walked away.
I looked at Cedric and he was glaring at me, he was obviously pissed off by my sudden appearance, I was currently ruining his plan to marry Mina after all.
"You're gonna regret this" he growled.
"We'll see" I replied calmly, but was hiding an immense rage aswell.
"3..." Julius began counting.
"2..."
"1..."
"FIGHT!"
