The moon had eight phases, and that's how many moves Zayne's skill lasted. Each time one of his parameters changed slightly, resulting in a maximum difference on the eighth attack.
The spiders ran swiftly at Zayne, and the hundreds of paws sent shivers through the ground as if a volcano was about to explode nearby or an earthquake was about to erupt. They were not frightened by Zayne's energy, their only goal was to get rid of the intruder.
Zayne stepped slowly, holding his sword lightly, it seemed that the hilt could slip out of his hands at any moment.
"Agh... How strange, at first I felt incredibly heavy, like I had a whole mountain on my shoulders, but... now, it's like I could be on the other side of the world if I wanted to, in just a moment." Zayne muttered, staring at the dark blade of his sword.
"Raaark!"
The massive spider jumped at Zayne, clutching its jaw right in front of him, but, as soon as its legs moved, Zayne's silhouette blurred.
At the same moment, a bright blue flash, like a star sweeping across the misty lands, appeared beside each of the dozens of spiders that surrounded it.
Zayne came up behind them like a shadow as the light in his eyes began to fade back to normal.
"Done..." Zayne sighed, then, blue streaks burst on the spiders, slicing them apart.
Zayne's sword flashed purple as many messages appeared before him.

"Not bad... right?" Zayne smiled bitterly as blood gushed from his mouth.
"Agh!" Zayne dropped to one knee, thrusting his sword into the ground to keep from finally falling. Minor wounds opened up all over his body, but each one was bleeding.
Zayne's face went pale, "What the hell...? I was ready to give back, after all, it experienced even Selania after using her skill, but... Isn't that too much?"
He breathed heavily, trying to come to his senses, and reached for the tree, leaning on it. The fog thickened abruptly as if wanting to hide Zayne from view, so the only thing visible was the purple rune burning at the beginning of his blade.

"Hah, maybe I should stay in this forest a little longer. All I need is a little rest..." Zayne muttered, closing his eyes and unknowingly falling asleep.
The mist slowly enveloped him like the softest blanket, making his silhouette almost invisible in the forest. The only thing left was a purple light like a ghostly lantern emitting a faint light.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
After an unknown period, a massive silhouette emerged from the trees, with many legs and a dozen red eyes aimed directly at Zayne. It was a black spider, many times the size of those Zayne had fought, its forelegs armored and sharp as deadly blades.
The spider's eyes looked at the aftermath of Zayne's actions, at the carnage he had inflicted on the smaller spiders, then its eyes turned again toward Zayne, with one clear intention.
The spider headed toward Zayne, as its two paws reached for its back, gradually gathering a web to ensnare Zayne forever.
Like a true predator, the spider took its time, it approached Zayne for fear of scaring him off, all in order to end it all in a few quick movements.
Whoooooooooooooosh.
The spider prepared to jump, at the same moment, there was a loud crack of trees as a long shadow at great speed approached the spider.
No time monster had anything to do, as the scolopendra's jaw firmly clenched, grabbed a huge body of the spider, and quickly rushed up, shaking with each movement of the ground.
The spider attacked, but its legs were not even capable of leaving a scratch on the protective plates of the scolopendra, so the end was obvious.
Crackle.
The scolopendra twisted its entire body sharply, pressing as hard as it could on the spider, tearing it apart, and swallowing its base. A bloody rain of dark droplets, fell on the forest, covering dry trees and long-dead branches.
"Oh, that was impressive." The man in the black cloak smiled slightly as he picked up another mushroom, "If it weren't for that scolopendra, this hunter would be in serious trouble. Well, sometimes some people can get lucky all at once, can't they?"
The man leaned on the wooden cane that had been his faithful companion for a long time.
...
Zayne slowly opened his eyes. He looked around since the fog had become much weaker, so he could see quite far away.
"Shit, how could I let myself fall asleep in a place like this?" Zayne shook his head, realizing how stupid that was, "I have to get out of here as soon as possible or that scolopendra will come back sooner or later."
Zayne stretched his shoulders before he headed forward, but just as he took a few steps, his eyes went wide. The field on which he had fought the spiders was now completely clear, only bloodstains remained.
"Wait... Didn't it see me...?" Zayne muttered as a chill ran down his back. He tilted his head, touched his forehead, and sighed before looking up.
The sun was almost at its zenith, and the fog was faint, which meant Zayne had a chance to see where he was.
"The voice from that stone said to head west, toward some split rock... I have no other choice anyway, do I?" Zayne pondered, looked at his shadow, and dashed to the left with a confident look.
