Mages usually used spells to fight, it was their main strength and main abilities. Unlike knights, they were weak physically and always lost in close combat to more powerful opponents, but at mid and long-range they were the best.New novel chapters are published on

Some archers had good physical stats, almost like knights, but their attacks were not as varied as mages. Also, besides devastating attacks, mages had many other spells suitable for any situation.

'Damn... That was dangerous... Not only did he look scary, but he became much stronger... I may have learned a lot from the last fight, but I'm not sure I can beat him.' Zayne internally muttered while looking at the crater left by the explosion.

"Clort! You've already made your choice, so I won't hold back! I didn't want things to get this far, but today one of us is going to die!" Gron exclaimed, walking through the flaming circles slowly dissipating around the point of the explosion.

"You think you can defeat me? You're too arrogant! Even if you two are fighting against me, I'm much stronger now! You forced me to use this spell!" Clort exclaimed, pointing his staff at Gron.

Purple energy traveled through the staff, quickly transforming into a multitude of projectiles that rained down on Gron like a hail of arrows.

Gron frowned. The attack was powerful, and his instincts told him to run, but his mind was stronger and wiser. He didn't back away and instead thrust his spear into the ground.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

The air shook as powerful electrical discharges, very dense and hot like plasma, emerged from the ground.

Gron swung his hand, controlling the electrical discharges and causing them to collide with the magical arrows.

With a powerful explosion, streams of flame spread around, covering part of the forest. The blue particles stayed near Gron, not doing him any harm, while the purple ones, headed towards Clort.

Gron turned to Zayne, "It looks like you are very close to going through the Awakened Process and have practically learned how to use your power. Given the situation we find ourselves in, I'll show you how I use mine."

Zayne was slightly surprised as this could be useful information for him, even considering that they were now in combat.

Whooooooooooooooooooosh.

Gron waved his hand, directing all the electrical currents to one point. They quickly compressed, turning into a sphere containing immense power.

He could use this sphere to attack and it would explode like a very powerful bomb, but that would be a big mistake since Gron was going to use this energy for himself.

Step.

Gron stepped forward with a serious expression as the sphere headed towards him, penetrating his body.

Clort didn't attack, though he had the opportunity to, but he just knew that it couldn't be disrupted, or the energy would fall on him. His body had changed, but he definitely wouldn't be able to withstand a direct blast of such power, so instead, he just prepared for the next attack.

Lightning bolts penetrated Gron's body, filling him with power and making some of his scales shine brightly. Electric shocks passed through his eyes as elements of thunder armor appeared on his shoulders, arms, and legs.

Gron tried to get out of the chains, but he couldn't. The chains were very strong and his lightning couldn't hurt them. If he had been free, in a few attacks with his spear he would have been able to do it, but not in this position.

"Well, well, it looks like this mage was a lot stronger than they realized." Edvin muttered with a calm look. Even though the situation had gotten complicated, he wasn't worried about Zayne at all.

Karin nodded, "Yeah, it's very rare to find a mage with such power even at Arisen Grade. Forbidden magic is only available to a few, it's strange that I've never heard of him."

Fride came up behind her and muttered, "This area is very far away, so it's not surprising. There are many places like this in the Dark Lands, small, quiet, and unremarkable. However, there can be amazing things there, as well as some pretty powerful creatures."

Toruf glanced at Edvin, "You seem confident that Zayne can handle it. However, it seems to me that the situation has become very dangerous."

Edvin nodded, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, "Yeah, don't worry, Zayne is developing too fast. I don't know if he has a talent for fighting or if it's the influence of his latent power, but he's definitely learning very quickly and discovering his own way."

'I have to do something! Zayne inwardly exclaimed as his sword became covered in blue energy and wide scarlet wings appeared behind him.

Whoooooooooooooooooooosh.

He dashed forward, quickly approaching Gron, but Clort seemed ready for him. He swung his staff aiming at Zayne, several magical arrows.

"Away!" Zayne exclaimed, swinging his sword and destroying the arrows in a few swings.

The arrows exploded, covering everything around them in purple fire. It couldn't hurt to Zayne, but now his view was blocked, and Clort took advantage of it.

Whooooooooooosh.

Some of the chains headed towards Zayne, curling around his arms and legs, doing the same thing to him as to Gron, who couldn't move.

Zayne tried to resist, but soon enough he couldn't even move his arm. Clort was in complete control of the situation ,and he realized it.

"Hahaha! That was easy!" Clort exclaimed with a mad grin on his face, "You're strong and fast, but you don't have any spells that could protect you from my chains!"

Clort wanted to say something else, but something stuck in his throat, then his eyes went wide, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.

He looked around with a frightened face since he thought Gron had gotten free, but that was not the case.

"Damn... Just one attack, and I'm still feeling the effects. Well, I guess this is the end of our fight." Clort muttered with a complicated expression.

Energy waves traveled down his staff as he pointed it at Gron, but soon he turned to Zayne.

"No, you die first. I thought you were an ally, but you turned out to be a pathetic traitor. You made your choice, and as I said before, this place will be your grave." Clort said calmly as a magic projectile was ready to fly out of his staff.

However, something sent a chill down his spine as Zayne's aura for some reason, abruptly changed to a frightening and wild one.
