Chapter 619: Chapter 619: Meeting Zhuang Lühe
Qiao Xiaomai’s skills needed no mention. Qiao Dami relished the scallion pancakes, taking bites between sips of water.
He was oblivious to the truth, thus at that moment, he could only feel the joy of seeing Zhuang Lühe.
Qiao Xiaomai looked at his smiling face and ruffled his small head with her hand.
Now about Tong Sanlang and Qiao Changshun.
Upon entering the village, Qiao Changshun’s heart was thumping wildly. From the moment he learned the news yesterday till now, he had not asked any questions.
One reason being that Qiao Dami was constantly with them, and the other was his fear of asking.
Just hearing about how she was deceived made him wail uncontrollably. If he were to see the pitiful state she was in…
He couldn’t even begin to imagine that scene.
But regardless of his fear, what was to come would eventually come. Qiao Changshun gripped his chest tightly, as if a huge rock was pressing down on him, stifling his breath.
“Sanlang, what… what exactly happened to her?”
“She was tricked by a hawker named Bai San. I don’t know what the hawker said to her, but the reality is she was brought here, and is living with a blind one-eyed bachelor.”
Tong Sanlang opened his mouth and simply recounted Zhuang Lühe’s current situation.
After listening to the description, Qiao Changshun couldn’t help but cover his face with his hands, his shoulders shaking as he whimpered softly.
The villagers in the street saw the unfamiliar faces, one handsome and the other crying, and couldn’t help but stare out of curiosity.
Tong Sanlang had already pinpointed Zhan Jin’s house, so he gave no heed to the villagers’ glances, pretending they didn’t exist.
When they were two houses away from Zhan Jin’s, a harsh, gruff male voice suddenly erupted, “You worthless woman! Can’t even cook properly, are you asking for a beating?”
Alongside the shouting, there was the child’s young voice, “Dad, hit her, hit her, she intentionally over salted the eggs!”
Hearing these two voices, Tong Sanlang furrowed his brows, and in a burst of effort, seemed to vanish from the bullock cart. In the blink of an eye, he ended up in Zhan Jin’s courtyard.
Zhan Jin was holding an iron shovel and was about to hit Zhuang Lühe with the back of it.
Seeing this, Tong Sanlang didn’t hesitate and kicked directly at Zhan Jin’s shoulder, sending him flying several meters away with one blow.
Then he landed next to Zhuang Lühe and without any hesitation, picked up the child who was continuously trying to pinch Zhuang Lühe, and threw him out as well, landing perfectly on Zhan Jin.
In his mind, he didn’t distinguish between old people, children or women; if they were acting wrongly, even if it was a six-year-old child, he would discipline them without hesitation.
Having thrown out both Zhan Jin and his son, he didn’t spare them another glance, instead, he turned to Zhuang Lühe.
The sight of her caused an involuntary expression of shock to cross his face.
Zhuang Lühe was wearing a grey, roughly spun hemp garment that was unmistakably a man’s. It hung loosely on her, mainly because she had become incredibly thin. The garment looked like it was hanging on a bamboo pole.
Her head was bowed, and her hair was a tangled mess. Her skin was pale, like she was sick.
She looked haggard and her face was expressionless.
Her features were the same, but the person in front of him bore no resemblance to the charming woman he remembered.
The Zhuang Lühe before his eyes seemed to have her spirit drained from her, withering away.
She stood there, slow to react. Only after Zhan Jin and his son had hollered over a dozen times did she finally lift her head in a daze to look at Tong Sanlang who was standing before her.
Tong Sanlang hadn’t changed, he was still the handsome and upright youth he had always been. Zhuang Lühe’s spiritless eyes lingered on him for a while before she finally asked, “Tong Sanlang?”
