Chapter 481: 480 Let’s get divorced!
Wen Ran wanted to speak, but at this moment, she couldn’t utter a word.
Downstairs, at the roadside not far away, Mo Xiuchen was anxiously scanning around. He couldn’t find the one he was yearning for. A dimness spread through his bright eyes– He tightly pursed his lips, his voice suddenly dropped, carrying a heartbreaking self-blame and guilt, he murmured softly: “Ranran, I didn’t mean to lie to you, I just didn’t want you to feel sad.”
She was the person he was least willing to deceive and hurt in this world.
The hand holding the mobile phone began to slightly shiver in fear she might hang up. Without waiting for her to speak, he bursted out urgently: “I don’t care if we have kids, I love you. No matter if we have children or not, it’s the same.”
Although he also hoped to have a son or daughter with her, if he had to choose, he would not hesitate to choose her. As long as he could have her by his side for life, he’d rather not have kids.
“Xiuchen!”
Wen Ran finally choked out.
One hand gripping tightly onto the mobile phone, the other hand pressing firmly on her chest.
Just there, a pain throbbed intensely. She tried to press down onto it to lessen the pain, but to no avail. Despite pressing so hard, the sharp pain still came in waves.
Downstairs, hearing her voice, Mo Xiuchen immediately looked up excitedly around him again. He didn’t know where she was, but he had a hunch that she should be nearby.
Perhaps, at this moment, she could see him.
Thinking about this, a fervent excitement lit up his eyes.
“Ranran, you said that you would always be with me, that you would never leave me. I know that you always keep your promises. Can you tell me, where are you?”
He was eager to see her now, he had so many things to tell her. He wanted to soothe the pain in her heart, to let her know, no matter when, he would always be by her side…
Earlier, he could tell that she was crying. Even though there was no sound, he could still tell.
At this moment, as the sound of her sobbing reached his ears, his heart twitched as if being tightly grasped by an invisible hand.
He felt an unspeakable sadness in his heart.
He didn’t want her to be sad. No matter when, no matter what happened, he hoped to be by her side.
Wen Ran couldn’t control her tears from falling. Every time Mo Xiuchen spoke, her heart would ache a little bit more. Her love for him was just as profound as his for her.
She had once promised that she would always stay by his side. She wasn’t with him during his lonely childhood, or when he was injured. But from now on, she would be with him forever.
But, how could she, Jingyi said, not to hurt herself while hurting others.
Now, to choose between hurting herself or hurting the one she loved the most, she would prefer to hurt herself, as he was the one she loved the most.
Compared to his physical health, what was her leaving? Compared to his life, momentary pain was nothing.
She stared blankly at the tall figure downstairs, biting hard on her lips that were already marked red. With a decided heart, she choked out firmly: “Xiuchen, let’s get a divorce.”
“No, I disagree.”
The panic and fervor in Mo Xiuchen’s voice was unlike anything before. The word ‘divorce’ felt like an arrow piercing through his heart like a surprise attack. Under the sun, his tall figure faltered.
Almost without a thought, the words ‘I disagree’ bursted out of his mouth.
“Xiuchen, if you don’t promise, I will never see you again. Once I made a decision, I won’t change.”
Ignoring the suffocating pain in her heart, Wen Ran spoke forthrightly, leaving no room for compromise.
She saw the tall figure downstairs stiffening. The tears in her eyes blurred her sight, but she could still see the deep pain in his eyes.
Her legs gave way and she crouched down weakly.
His figure disappeared from her sight. All she saw was a blur, just like her chaotic mind and blank thoughts.
In the phone, there was a dead silence.
Mo Xiuchen didn’t answer. His heart was hurt by her harsh words. Even under the sunlight, his finely sculpted face was pale as a piece of paper.
Through the phone, the two of them just tightly clenched their phones. She knew, she had given him a difficult decision, an impossible choice.
She fully knew how much he loved her and how important she was to him, but she ruthlessly proposed a divorce.
The word ‘divorce’ was something she had never thought about. When she first married him without any feelings for him, she never even considered divorcing him.
What had she said back then? She had said that as long as he didn’t ask for a divorce, she would never leave him. But now, just a few months later, she actually wanted to divorce him.
Tears rolled down her cheeks, dropping on the marble floor, soon wetting a big patch.
The silence on the phone was suffocating.
She wanted to tell him not to be sad. But she couldn’t. Other than biting hard on her lips to prevent herself from crying out loud, she couldn’t do anything else.
“Ranran!”
After what seemed like a century, Mo Xiuchen’s voice finally came through.
The normally low and magnetic voice was choked with emotions, full of deep pain and heartache – he wasn’t even angry.
After a long silence, his emotions finally cooled down. “Ranran, I want to see you.”
He had to see her.
“Did you…agree?”
Wen Ran clutched the phone tightly, as if fearing that it would fall if she loosened her grip.
“Ranran, if you really want to divorce, then I’ll agree. But, I want to see you.” Mo Xiuchen’s voice returned to the usual calm, as if she was not talking about divorce, but about a normal thing like having a meal together.
If not for the pain and choking in his tone that couldn’t be ignored, Wen Ran would have thought she had heard wrong.
He was determined to see her, just to confirm that she was safe. Deep down, he believed that once he saw her, he could persuade her and dissuade her from divorcing him.
Wen Ran agreed to all his requests, she had no reason not to see him. Of course there was none.
She also guessed that he wanted to see her to persuade her, but like she said, once she made a decision, no one could change it.
Once she proposed a divorce, she would definitely divorce him.
She slowly stood up and drew back the curtains. Standing in front of the window, looking down at him, she calmly said: “I’m in the hotel next to you.”
Mo Xiuchen immediately looked up at the building, looking through the window, he saw her familiar figure. His heart jerked, then started beating in frenzy.
“I’m coming up,” he replied, and immediately sprinted towards the nearby hotel.
