Chapter 485: 484 Heartache

Wen Jin and Gu Kai arrived at the location almost simultaneously. As Gu Kai got out of his car, Wen Jin’s car also drove up.

He glanced upwards at the hotel with his tall figure standing there, waiting for Wen Jin to approach.

After a brief discussion, they quickly headed towards the hotel. Upon reaching the upper floor, they saw Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure standing in the corridor, his gaze fixed on the door ahead, but he did not move forward.

Gu Kai’s gaze changed slightly, a hint of confusion and surprise flashing in his ink-deep eyes. His handsome eyebrows furrowed slightly as he hurried forward and asked softly, “Xiuchen, haven’t you seen Ranran yet?”

As he finished speaking, his expression suddenly froze, staring blankly at the man next to him who seemed as rigid as a stone.

Wen Jin was surprised at Gu Kai’s expression and stepped forward to look at Mo Xiuchen following Gu Kai’s gaze. When he saw tears on Mo Xiuchen’s perfectly handsome face, he was stunned too.

For a moment, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

Mo Xiuchen, a man of considerable stature, a business elite who commanded great influence, who was always cold and unfeeling in front of people, was now crying. And he was crying for Ranran.

Mo Xiuchen ignored the surprised looks on Gu Kai and Wen Jin’s faces. His thick eyelashes trembled slightly as he redirected his gaze from the door, ignoring the two men on either side of him. He wiped away the tears with his hand, and his thin lips parted slightly. His voice was raspy and rough, yet indifferent and calm, revealing nothing of the emotions in his heart: “You came just in time. Ranran is in the room. She doesn’t want to come home with me. Let her go home with whichever one of you she is willing to. I am leaving first.”

After he finished speaking, he turned and walked away.

“…”

Wen Jin’s eyebrows furrowed, opening his mouth to stop Mo Xiuchen.

Gu Kai quickly grabbed his arm to stop him, whispering: “Let him go!”

Although he did not know why Mo Xiuchen had chosen to leave first, nor did he know what exactly he had said to Ranran, there was one thing he was sure of. Even with the slightest possibility, Xiuchen wouldn’t stand outside the door in this manner, waiting for them to arrive.

He had known Mo Xiuchen for over twenty years and could count on his fingers the number of times he had seen him cry. Ever since he narrowly escaped death years ago, he seemed to have never shed a tear.

Even when he was victimized by Xiao Wenqing, he did not cry.

But just now, he saw him crying.

Wen Jin diverted his gaze, took a few steps to Ranran’s room, and without knocking, turned the doorknob. As the door opened, he could see Ranran sitting on the sofa, curled up with her head buried in her knees. Her suppressed cries echoed in his ears, and he felt a pang in his heart. He called out ‘Ranran’ and quickly approached her.

Gu Kai entered the room behind Wen Jin and saw Ranran sitting on the floor. His brows furrowed instantly, and he walked over to help Wen Jin lift Ranran from the floor.

“Ranran, don’t cry anymore!”

Wen Jin gently patted Ranran’s back, wiping her tears sympathetically with his hand. Gu Kai was supporting her other arm, his pitch-black eyes filled with sympathy, but all he did was purse his lips, not saying a word.

Ranran looked up with her red and swollen eyes, first at Wen Jin, then at Gu Kai, and gradually stopped crying.

“Ranran, we met Mo Xiuchen at the door. He said you didn’t want to go home with him. Are you blaming him for what happened? Actually, he did it all just to avoid making you sad.”

Wen Jin asked gently, his gaze fixed on Ranran.

“He didn’t leave?”

Ranran seemed a bit surprised. She thought he had left.

Actually, she didn’t know why she felt wronged when he left. After all, she was the one who wanted a divorce; he just obliged. She didn’t want to home with him, that’s why he left.

But when he agreed and left, she felt wronged as if she had been abandoned by everyone.

She even hated herself for feeling this way.

Wen Jin gently smoothed her disheveled hair and explained softly, “He waited for us to arrive before he left. He wanted us to ask you if you wanted to go home with me or Ah Kai, and he made sure we don’t force you.”

Hearing his explanation, Ranran felt like crying again.

“Ranran, keeping you in the dark about your health was mine and Wen Jin’s decision. Xiuchen just did his best to protect you. Since you now know the truth, you should guess that the medicine you and Xiuchen have been taking these days is for nourishing your body, not for treating his illness.”

Gu Kai sighed lightly and gently asked:

“Can you tell me who called you?”

Ranran’s eyes flickered, she said lightly: “I don’t know, it was a stranger.”

Gu Kai squinted his eyes, “Ranran, you are lying. You know who called you; you just don’t want to tell us, right?”

“If Ranran doesn’t want to say, let it be. When she wants to talk, she will talk.” Wen Jin, trying to protect her sister, stopped Gu Kai from continuing to question. He paused and gently said, “Ranran, let’s go home first. We can talk about anything more once we get there, okay?”

“Ok!”

Ranran nodded. She did not want to go home with Mo Xiuchen, nor with Gu Kai, but thankfully, she was willing to go home with Wen Jin. That home where they had spent over a dozen years together, perhaps subconsciously felt closer than the Gu family’s home.

Gu Kai also felt he was a bit too harsh with his words just now. Given Ranran’s heightened emotions, if she didn’t want to speak, forcing her would be useless. He pressed his lips together and softly said: “Ranran, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk. You can tell us when you’re ready. Going home for a few days might be good, you can calm down and then talk with Xiuchen.”

Downstairs, Luo Haofeng and Qin Mu arrived to see Mo Xiuchen sitting in the car. The two exchanged a glance and walked over to Mo Xiuchen’s car. Luo Haofeng reached out to pull down the car window, staring at Mo Xiuchen inside the car: “Xiuchen, why are you sitting here? Where is Ranran?”

“She is upstairs. Ah Kai and Wen Jin are also upstairs.”

Mo Xiuchen did not lift his head. His energies dark and his demeanor cold.

Luo Haofeng frowned. He couldn’t see Mo Xiuchen’s expression, but he could hear something was off in his voice. His eyes narrowed as he asked again, “Did Ranran chase you out?”

Qin Mu, who was nearby, glanced at the building above before circling around the car and settling himself in the passenger seat. From the outside, he couldn’t see Mo Xiuchen’s expression, but once inside the car, not only could he see his expression clearly, he could even make out the red edges of his eyes.

His gaze changed abruptly as he blurted out, “Xiuchen, did Ranran make you upset?”

Mo Xiuchen buckled his seatbelt, explaining curtly, “She wants to divorce me.”

“Divorce? How did it get so serious?” Luo Haofeng looked at Mo Xiuchen in shock. Qin Mu’s facial expression also shifted, “Didn’t you explain to her?”
