Chapter 495: 494 I will not leave her

Gu Kai blocked the doorway, stepping forward to meet Mo Xiuchen’s vigorous gaze without flinching, spoke in a low and calm voice, “You can’t go now. In a few days, give Ranran some time, at least, when her eyes aren’t so swollen anymore, you can go. If you go now, you’d only make her cry until she goes blind.”

Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure froze suddenly.

He envisioned Wen Ran in his mind, when she came downstairs, her eyes were already swollen and red.

In the hotel room, he stood outside the door, listening to her suppressed and sorrowful cries seeping out from the door cracks. At that time, his heart felt as if it was tightly pulled repeatedly by a rope, again and again, each pull tighter than the last, making it hard to breathe.

“I came to see you, to inform you about Ranran’s current condition. Give her a few days to calm down. In the meantime, you could also think of a way to force Wu Tianyi and Fu Jingyi out.”

Mo Xiuchen’s face changed slightly.

Gu Kai softened his tone and continued, “If you could find Fu Jingyi, perhaps, the poison in Ranran could be rapidly eliminated. My father once said that Fu Jingyi was a medical genius who loved to research all kinds of things…”

Mo Xiuchen finally turned around and sat back down on the sofa.

Gu Kai sighed in relief, returning to his seat on the sofa, “Xiuchen, don’t say you disagree; I also disagree with Ranran’s decision to divorce you. She is the sister I had been searching for many years, and selfishly, I wish you could always be by her side.”

“I will not leave her.”

Mo Xiuchen spoke firmly.

As he said this, he did not look at Gu Kai. Instead, his eyes were slightly downcast, focused on a spot on the coffee table.

He wasn’t merely answering Gu Kai’s question or promising him anything. It felt more like reassuring himself.

“I know that. So, don’t be so angry. In fact, I totally understand Ranran’s thoughts. If you and I were in her shoes, we would definitely do the same.”

Gu Kai’s words left Mo Xiuchen with no room to refute. Just like Gu Kai said, if it were him, he would do the same.

“I’m hungry. Let’s go downstairs to eat first. After eating, I will explain everything to you. Before coming here, I’ve promised Ranran that I would make sure you eat and sleep as usual.”

Gu Kai’s words caught Mo Xiuchen off guard, confusion flickered in his eyes. He watched as Gu Kai turned and walked towards the door. He wrinkled his brow as the phrase ‘I promised to Ranran’ echoed in his mind, bringing in a wave of bitterness to his heart.

As soon as they descended the stairs, Nanny Zhang immediately brought out the food.

Two grown men sitting across each other at the dinner table created a heavy atmosphere. Facing Mo Xiuchen’s icy and taciturn demeanor, Gu Kai brow furrowed unhappily. He thought for a moment and then took out his phone to snap a picture of their food.

“What are you doing?”

A hardness crept into Mo Xiuchen’s gaze.

“Taking a picture. In case Ranran asks, I can tell her that I made you eat.” Gu Kai blinked innocently, directing his camera at Mo Xiuchen. “Xiuchen, don’t look so stern. If you want Ranran to give up the idea of divorcing you, you can’t just pressure her. You have to use the right method.”

“What method?”

Mo Xiuchen looked at Gu Kai with skepticism. What did Gu Kai know about handling relationships? Who was he to be advising Xiuchen on how to mend his marriage?

Gu Kai smirked, “The method is simple. Take pictures of everything you do while Ranran is not around you these days. Add text to the photos and send them to her. This way, she may not have the heart to leave you.”

Mo Xiuchen squinted at Gu Kai, mulling over his words. He seemed to find Gu Kai’s idea reasonable. He moisture his lips and adjusted his expression slightly, instructing, “Make sure to take a good picture of me.”

“Alright!”

Gu Kai raised his eyebrows and took several shots of him. Mo Xiuchen reached over and snatched the phone from Gu Kai’s hand. Gu Kai complained unsatisfiedly, “Xiuchen, I haven’t finished yet. What are you doing?”

Mo Xiuchen glanced at him, then lowered his head, scanning through the photos Gu Kai just took. He selected three: One was of the food, and the other two were of himself.

Initially, he thought about sending the photos to his own phone. But on second thought, he decided to use Gu Kai’s phone to quickly edit a message and send it to Ranran.

Gu Kai watched Mo Xiuchen focusing on the message editing. He knew that Xiuchen was sending the photos to Ranran on his behalf. He grimaced and shot a glance at Mo Xiuchen, then picked up his chopsticks to eat his food.

After Mo Xiuchen had sent out all three photos, he returned the phone to Gu Kai, coolly said: “Ranran sent you to my house to accompany me for dinner. Don’t just indulge in your own meal, take care of my mood too.”

Gu Kai paused, then laughed, “Xiuchen, you’ve improved compared to your ‘thousand years of frost’ mood earlier. If you keep up like this, Ranran will surely come back.”

**

The Wen Family Residence,

Wen Ran’s phone beeped just as they finished dinner.

Auntie Li was clearing the table in the dining room. She and Bai Xiaoxiao had moved to the sofa. Wen Jin brought out fruit from the kitchen and called to them cheerfully, “Ranran, Xiaoxiao, it’s time for fruit.”

Hearing the beep, Bai Xiaoxiao curiously asked, “Ranran, who sent you a message?”

As she asked, she craned her neck to see.

The message was from Gu Kai.

Wen Ran opened the message. She stiffened slightly when she saw the pictures inside.

Bai Xiaoxiao looked surprised, “Gu Kai seems worried that you might not believe him. Even for having a meal with Mo Xiuchen, he has to send pictures for evidence. It’s not just pictures, he even added text, quite creative.”

“He didn’t write this.”

Wen Ran sounded like she was talking to herself.

Bai Xiaoxiao blinked and asked, “Did Mo Xiuchen send it? Ranran, how do you know?”

Wen Ran’s hand clenched on her phone, not responding to Bai Xiaoxiao.

She just knew. Even though these pictures were sent from Gu Kai’s phone, the text definitely was written by Mo Xiuchen.

Seeing that she didn’t answer, Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t press further. She only sighed, “Mo Xiuchen is so handsome. Not only does he look handsome in person, but his photos are also great. Ranran, such a handsome and ruggedly good-looking man who is madly in love with you, I’m so jealous.”

A sourness assailed Wen Ran’s nose. It was because he was too good that she couldn’t bear to…

She pressed her lips together, tucking her phone away and picked up a piece of fruit to hand over to Bai Xiaoxiao, deflecting, “As long as you’re willing, there are plenty of handsome men waiting to marry you.”

Bai Xiaoxiao laughed lightly, “Put it off for now; those losers aren’t worth it. Once my leg heals, I’ll start thinking about love.”

“Xiaoxiao, don’t go back tonight. Stay here to keep Ranran company.”

Wen Jin sat next to Wen Ran, speaking gently. Even though Ranran seemed calm now, he was still worried.

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, readily agreeing, “Excellent, I’ll tell my mom later, and stay here for a few days before going back.”
