Chapter 98: Wendy’s Abilities

Shye's eyes widened in utter shock and disbelief after witnessing the strength of Wendy's barrier.

She was only a third-year student but her barrier was already stronger and thicker compared to the barrier of his senior, Fazzio Nieva, who was one of his teammates during Colzen Academy's top 64 finish in the Adventurer Academy competition.

Due to this, Shye suddenly remembered their last remaining teammate from Colzen Monastery whom they hadn't met yet.

Colzen Monastery's Archpriest proudly stated that their last teammate was the most talented priestess to ever grace the monastery and judging from Wendy's thick barrier, it was highly likely that she was their last teammate.

Not to mention, the two of them were currently in the same year level.

Unfortunately, Shye didn't have the time to follow through on his current deductions as the two rhinos turned their attention to the defenseless Wendy.

"U-Uhmm...W-Why are you looking at me? Him! Attack him! He's the warrior!"

Wendy pointed her index finger towards Shye and exclaimed to the rhinos with a slightly panicked expression on her stiff and cold face as the two tri-horned rhinos looked at her and started winding up their charge.

"Tch!"

Naturally, Shye wouldn't just let the two rhinos bulldoze Wendy.

He quickly got out of the barrier's radius and used [Rush Stab Lv.2] to try and finish off the wounded tri-horned rhino by targeting the grievously wounded part of its body.

*SPURT*

*ROAAAAR*

The wounded rhino roared in pain as both of Shye's greatswords stabbed deep into its wound. Regrettably, the rhino proved to be too resilient as it still didn't die after another direct hit from Shye.

Meanwhile, Wendy was getting ready to defend herself from the remaining healthy rhino.

Unfortunately, her barrier was still on cooldown so the first thing that came to her mind was to hold her life staff like a baseball bat as the second rhino furiously charged towards her.

"Wendy! Don't! You can't fight it head o–?!"

*WHACK*

Shye didn't have the time to thoroughly examine the changes in his body though as the second tri-horned rhino was already right in front of him.

Shockingly, his body's instincts urged him to stop overthinking and just clash with the tri-horned rhino head-on instead of dodging to the side.

'Damn it, I shall trust her this one time!'

Shye inwardly thought as he gritted his teeth and decisively charged forward.

He then slashed both of his greatswords downwards to engage in a frontal clash with a charging tri-horned rhino.

"HAAAAAHHHH!"

*SPURT*

To his surprise, his greatswords cut the tri-horned rhino vertically in half as if it were a hot knife slicing through butter.

*THUD*

Naturally, Shye was dumbfounded after killing the tri-horned rhino with ease. He never would have imagined that killing creatures together with a capable priestess would be this efficient.

He couldn't help but look at Wendy whose facial expressions didn't even change even though she was flashing a cute victory peace sign at him.

Of course, Shye was happy after their flawless victory as well so he gave her a thumbs up for a job well done.

Upon realization of how overpowered Wendy's skills were, Shye was sure that even the Jadepaw Grizzly would have trouble against the two of them.

Although she was indeed severely lacking in combat experience right now, her absurdly strong abilities more than made up for her inexperience.

Not to mention, she seems to be a fast learner.

Due to this, Shye finally decided to take down the Jadepaw Grizzly. However, just to be sure, Shye brought her along to finish his other quests first before attempting to take out the Jadepaw Grizzly.

On the way to their next quest location, Shye asked Wendy about her skills in detail and found that what makes her abilities so strong is her almost infinite mana pool and a rare talent that she already had when she was born, [Contact Casting].

This talent of hers allowed her to directly triple the effects of every spell she cast if either her limbs or her life staff touched her target.

Truly the definition of a talented individual.
