Chapter 340: Ruby-ranked Rookie

"Haaah! Haaah! Why did I sign up for this sh*t?!" Shye cursed as he pulled the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard's whole corpse by its tail—his muscles bulging as he did so.

[Congratulations! Your strength attribute has increased from 183 >> 184!]

Shye didn't read the quest description much, confident that he would be able to take the darned lizard down.

Well, he did. Experience more tales on m v|l e'-novelhall.net

Easily at that.

However, when he opened the quest scroll to see what he needed to harvest after slaying the creature, he found out that he had to bring back the WHOLE corpse as the client who posted the quest up was an owner of some random upstart museum.

That specific day, Shye started to hate museums—all due to his stu–...carelessness.

Fortunately, Balkrow City was only three hours away from Avenida Advanced Adventurer Zone, hence, Shye simply treated the arduous three-hour task as one intense strength training session.

Most of the adventurers in Balkrow were around the ranks of Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

A good amount were rubies, and only around five percent were emeralds—Balkrow's cream of the crop.

Naturally, such a huge corpse would inevitably attract the attention of the adventurers, especially the low-ranked ones whose eyes almost popped out of their sockets—their mouths agape.

A few of them had seen one such creature before, however, only a small percentage of the adventurers preparing near the city gates knew exactly how strong the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard was.

Witnessing a solo adventurer, especially someone so young, take one down was bound to create huge waves as only emerald-ranked adventurers were capable of such feats.

[Congratulations! You've earned 480 points!]

'Haaah...that's better than nothing, I guess...'

Dragging the corpse in front of the city gates under hundreds of awestruck eyes, Shye approached the guards.

He then showed them his Balkrow token and the quest description from the scroll before requesting them to open the massive gate.

This wasn't the first time such a thing happened, hence, the guards readily accepted his request.

"Phew...just a bit more..." Shye muttered wearily under his breath as he once more grasped the tip of the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard's massive tail, pressing on with his arduous journey towards the guild branch headquarters.

Unbeknownst to him, someone in the top ten of Balkrow City's Rookie Adventurer Rankings was amongst the crowd, specifically, the fourth-ranked Lin Zi from Yudaina Yama Adventurer Guild.

"Hello, Miss Shauna, I'm here to turn my rank-up quest in!" Shye said excitedly with an innocent smile on his face.

He was quite decent at hiding his emotions, except for excitement and happiness, that is.

Hence, his rarely-seen innocent disposition tugged a few strings inside Shauna's heart, causing her to reply somewhat flusteredly.

"R-R-Right away, Sir Crowley. Let me check your quest requirements for a few moments..."

"Sure."

After one minute, Shauna looked at Shye again.

"Haaah... Thank you, Sir Crowley, for accepting this quest. It's been posted for nearly thirty days, and no one wanted to take it on due to the challenge of bringing the corpse back. Speaking of which... how did you manage to bring it back, and where did you leave it?" Shauna sighed in relief before asking Shye with a curious face.

It would be hard for even a whole party of ruby-ranked adventurers to bring the corpse back, hence, Shauna was truly curious about the Shye's methods.

"Well...I grabbed its tail like this and pulled like this, all the way back to Balkrow. I left it there, just outside the door." Shye replied, demonstrating how he did it with moderate enthusiasm for the sake of a proper explanation.

Again, Shauna almost burst out laughing, a hundred percent amused at Shye's antics.

In her opinion, Shye was a misunderstood rookie.

Although there were times when he was indeed arrogant, he never started any trouble inside the guild, only retaliating to defend himself.

"Miss Shauna?"

"A-Ah!! Y-Yes...I see. I've granted you one-time access to the guild warehouse behind this building, you may leave the creature's corpse there. Once you're done, I shall process the quest completion for you."

Eager to rank up and receive the mandatory quest rewards, Shye swiftly finished the task of storing the Hellspawn Bull-Lizard's corpse at the guild warehouse, returning to the rewards desk promptly after.

"I'm done storing the corpse in the guild warehouse. Here's the receipt given by the staff manning the warehouse." Shye enthusiastically said, handing the receipt right over along with his adventurer license and guild token.

Receiving the identification documents along with the receipt, Shauna verified its authenticity, processing Shye's quest completion shortly after.

"Congratulations, Sir Crowley! You've reached the ruby rank as an adventurer. Inside this bag is your quest reward of 13,000 silver coins. Thank you once again for your contributions to the guild!" Shauna said, offering a profound bow toward Shye.

Naturally, Shye reciprocated the polite gesture, forcing himself to stay calm even after receiving one of the best notifications he ever received from the system.

[Congratulations! You've completed the mandatory quest: Super Rookie. You may receive the rewards manually through the mandatory quest screen.
