Seeing the familiar faces of Ulfreign and the others in front of him, Shye simply sneered in disdain.
Not a trace of fear crossed his face.
Naturally, the five enraged adventurers felt their anger intensify when they realized that Shye Crowley, the arrogant Balkrow Rookie Representative, wasn't scared of them whatsoever.
"Hmph! I've already activated a recording crystal to document your attempt to kill me. Plus, Guild Master Corvus gave me a life force talisman. You won't get away unscathed if you go through with your plan, so why should I be afraid of your bluff?!" Shye exclaimed with a confident smirk.
His chances of killing the damned bastards were way higher than their chances of killing him, hence, he was truly not scared of this encounter.
The only thing he truly feared was the consequences of committing murder within the city.
This was why he pretended to rely on the life force talisman Corvus gave him to deter Ulfreign and the others from attacking.
Of course, he knew that the life force talisman and the recording crystal wouldn't be enough to stop the bozos from attacking; however, he didn't care as his primary goal was to provoke them into revealing their true intentions.
Once he gathered proof that he was merely defending himself, he would slaughter all five of them.
Sure enough, since Ulfreign and the others were already veterans with more than five years of experience, they never once thought that some upstart rookie would be able to defeat them.
"Haha...Hahahaha! Do you think we're idiots? Naturally, we already know that you have a life force talisman, and we've already made preparations to deal with it after your death. As for your recording crystal...hahahahaha! Who would show the world how we killed you once you're dead?!" Ulfreign replied with a sinister smile.
Hearing what the "assassins" just said, Shye aimed the recording crystal at his face, feigning a horrified expression before deactivating it.
*BLEEP!*
"Aaand, that's a wrap! Good job, idiots. Now, I can slaughter all of you without any worry!" Shye exclaimed with a sinister smile of his own. Experience tales at empire
Naturally, Ulfreign and the other four couldn't help but scoff in disdain after hearing Shye's words.
"It appears that this rookie still doesn't understand his situation."
"Hahaha! What else can you expect from an ignorant yet arrogant newcomer? He still thinks the world is all rainbows and butterflies!"
The "assassins" kept on yapping, however, Shye wasn't in the mood to retort as there weren't really any gains in doing so.
"Hahahaha! Why are you acting all crazy, you stupid f*ck? Why would I plan to kill insignificant insects? I was simply returning to the inn I frequent and you guys appeared out of nowhere in hopes of assassinating me. Now, upon realizing that I can simply slaughter all of you easily, you scream victim? Laughable!"
"I don't care! You! You planned all o–"
"Please! Spare me! I'll do anything for you!"
Just when Ulfreign was about to retort, a desperate voice suddenly sounded beside him, causing everyone to turn their heads toward its source.
Jana, the priestess, finally couldn't stand it anymore...
"Jana...you..."
"HAHAHAHAHA! Phew...You guys are killing me. Please, in your next life, don't start trouble you're not ready to finish."
Losing interest in conversing with the spineless cowards, Shye drenched the dark alley in scarlet blood, slaughtering the five emerald-ranked adventurers without batting an eyelid.
Shortly after, he deactivated the sword realm.
'Tch... no matter what I do, this mess will be discovered...' Shye inwardly cursed. 'Oh, well, I have proof that everything I did was self-defense anyway...'
Deciding to not think too much about it, Shye swiftly drew a long-distance teleportation magic circle that would allow him to instantly return to his room at the inn.
He then burned the corpses to ashes with a single fireball, illuminating the dark alley in a vermillion light before swiftly stepping inside the magic circle.
'Recall!'
Recognizing the familiar interiors of his room at the inn, Shye breathed a sigh of relief, snapping his fingers to instantly erase the magic circle drawing back at the dark alley.
'Sigh...I really need a reliable method to temporarily hide corpses...' He lamented, fully knowing that similar things would continue to happen for as long as he continued to show off.
Fortunately for him, although a few people noticed the vermillion light in the dark alley, they were all ordinary folks who couldn't comprehend what had happened even after pondering for a while.
Once the flames died down, all they saw was the charred ground.
And since nothing else was damaged, they quickly lost interest and decided not to report the strange occurrence to the authorities, leaving the scene while scratching their heads.
