Former village girl and the Flag Crusher Prince
Chapter 06: A Spring night
The spring nights are still a little cold, I got chills while I'm wearing a thin jacket and walk through the court's backyard.
After I finished the talk with Their Majesties, it was already late at night.
It was her Majesty's suggestion that we stay at the court today, as she was sorry to send us home in the middle of the night.
Not wanting to face my parents, I decided to accept.
"...phew."
As I gaze at the flower beds that were full of seasonal colors, I think about today.
The reason I'm taking this walk when even the bugs are already asleep is that I couldn't sleep because I couldn't get what happened out of my head.
I reminded Her Majesty's words as if we were in Hermet's office again.
*Flashback*
"Once... he even hurt his nanny badly" Queen Gabrielle lowered her eyes sadly.
"You know, he made a tantrum for a very small thing, the nanny admonished him for losing his temper for something like that and he got angry with her"
The King said, "Please shut up....
It was more than five years ago now, it happened when Lotus was still four or five.
Even if her words weren't a big deal to a normal kid, that kid was different....
The curse was triggered- I- I think he did it unintentionally, unconsciously... he triggered it."
I was amazed, to be honest, I had heard a similar rumor about His Majesty Lotus...
>
At the time I heard it, I dismissed it as rumors, I didn't even think if they were true or false.
If you think about it, it's common for people to talk about things based on incidents that happened in the past and exaggerate the reality "a little".
That's how the rumors about His Highness must have been spread but n.o.body really thought serious of them, it was more like an amusing story created by a drunken fisherman
"The nanny came back to life a little later, but she left the court to never come back.
Lotus bitterly regretted what he did that day and how she didn't wanted to see him ever again.
Now, it's told in the whole Kingdom as a fun story to share with family and friends during Tea Parties... ha ha haha" laughed Her Majesty while falling into depression
His Majesty Reinhardt, who was next to her, gently hugged Queen Gabrielle.
"... Fortunately, Lotus is a good son, with a great sense of morals.
Thanks to that, to this day, no tragedy as a babysitter has ever happened again.
But that doesn't mean you can't make some mistakes like that one day.
As a father, as a king, as a man ... I want to find someone who can slap my son back to the right side of the road !!
I've been looking for a woman like that. "
At His Majesty's words, I shook my head, "You're hoping too much of someone like me.
I don't think I'm that good."
In my previous life, I was utterly useless as a Queen.
I hated the Emperor, but he was an honorable man, and I knew he really wanted to protect the country.
After the Emperor's death, I was unable to protect anything.
All I could do was watch as the country was broken down slowly piece by piece."
"There was no way that I could be in a position to admonish His Highness Lotus.
Much less be a Queen."
"Please, Miss Azalea." Queen Gabrielle said, with teary eyes "You're the only one I can possibly ask."
--You're the only one who's not afraid of him.
*Flashback*
"Aww! Already!"
I crouched down on the spot and held my head.
"Every person in the world has its own selfish problems!
I'm not the kind of woman who can get angry for the sake of everybody else!
At that time, I was just angry for what he did!
How could this happen to me!" I shouted... and heard footsteps behind me.
--What? Who's there in the middle of the night? What is it? A ghost?
I looked back fearfully and my face turned blue when I saw the face of His Highness Lotus
"Ah! " His Highness Lotus, who was about to tap me on the shoulder, retracted his outstretched hand halfway through and said with a scowl ".A..a...are you still in a bad mood?"
"Huh! Oh, no, I'm totally fine! Great!"
I scoffed as I stood up, extending my arms to show my entire body and that there was nothing wrong with me anywhere.
His Highness sighed with relief.
The relieved expression on his face was somehow lonely and not entirely calm.
"Good. If you're not feeling well, let me know right away. All right?"
I quickly grabbed His Highness' arm as he turned back to look at me with a surprised face.
"What is it? Do you still want to do something?"
"Um, well, it's not like that..."
This is bad... What I am doing? I reflexively pulled away my hand, scratched my cheeks and grinned bitterly.
"I can't sleep, so if you don't mind, can you show me the garden?"
I don't know why I'm digging my own grave.
In the middle of the night, as I walked through the backyard with His Highness, I bitterly regretted what I had done.
His Highness Lotus was speechless.
Unable to endure the silence, I managed to find a way to start the conversation.
"Well, come to think of it! Why is His Highness outside at such a late hour?"
"I just wanted to get a little of fresh air"
"Is that so? I wanted some time to think, so when I noticed I was already outside. What a coincidence!"
I remembered my words and laughed, but His Highness didn't and again silence filled the place while a night wind blew through us.
I'm so uncomfortable.
I wiped the mysterious sweat from my palms, searching for a topic on which the conversation could continue.
"Do you often take walks at night, Your Highness?"
"No, not at all."
Oh, come on! Don't do it again....
"So, today is a rare day, isn't it?"
"Yeah."
Don't try to end the conversation! Please more reactions, Your Highness!
As I searched for my next topic, His Highness Lotus muttered.
"I've been thinking about what you said to me during the day."
I closed my mouth at His Highness' statement.
"What exactly is sincerity?"
Rather than talking to me for an answer, His Highness was talking as if he were alone.
He was proud that he had been working for his country and for his people.
But he found out that his thoughts weren't the same of everyone else... until then, no one had denied him.
Then His Highness giggled, as if remembering, and huffed.
"No, it was not the first time... but it was, yes, the first time in my life that I'd ever been punched in the cheek!
You don't get that kind of treatment often!"
His Highness Lotus grabed my hand as he stoped in front of me.
"Let's be honest. I still haven't gotten the answer as to what the sincerity is-- that you said before."
Then his fiery red eyes stared at me.
"So... why don't I let Azalea tell me what's it?"
His eyes were serious, unlike those of the daytime.
"If I'm wrong, please tell me.
I want to be corrected.
I'm too different from other people.
Hence if there's a discrepancy of thoughts like, what happened today... I hope Azalea will scold me before the hearts of my subjects get hurt."
His Highness Lotus tightened his grip on my hand a little.
I let out a sigh at the seriousness of his expression.
Oh, G.o.d. How dare use this kind of powers on me.
He only thinks of his own convenience.
I hate hate hate hate it.
I've decided my answer from the beginning...
I knew it was going to happen...
I grinned meanly and said to His Highness.
"Ok... but next time... please don't cry."
His Highness was taken aback by my words and then went down in embarra.s.sment.
"It's not fair to say that...."
I couldn't help but smile at the thought of His Highness Lotus, who was bright red, being so cute~~.
The spring night breeze was still cold, just the right amount to cool my burning cheeks.
It was that kind of night, with the sweet, refreshing fragrance of flowers.
