Chapter 27

“All classes on small duty, gather.”

At 7:10 pm, when Ye Sanshi had just stepped into the dormitory, another shout came from downstairs.

“Hmm? Small duty?” Everyone’s eyes were a little confused and puzzled. No one knew what it was. Moreover, Class Five didn’t seem to have such a thing.

Seeing that everyone was looking at him, Ye Sanshi first looked around at the cleaning situation in the dormitory, then said indifferently, “The small duty is arranged by the class. Every day, one person will go to the cafeteria in advance to get food for everyone.”

After saying this, he looked directly at Zhang Ping’an, who was on the opposite bed. “Zhang Ping’an, you go today!”

“Yes, sir!” Zhang Ping’an actually stood at attention and saluted.

“In the future, there’s no need to report and salute. Just reply with a yes!”

“Yes, sir!”

“Okay, go ahead.” Ye Sanshi didn’t say much and let Zhang Ping’an leave.

After Zhang Ping’an left, Ye Sanshi took out a white glove from his pocket and put it on. He looked at everyone and didn’t say anything. Then, he turned around and closed the door.

When Wang Ye saw his action, his heart skipped a beat. This was bad. If he was not mistaken, no one seemed to have wiped the back of the door. Sure enough, Ye Sanshi wiped the wooden board behind the door with his hand and showed everyone the black smudges on his fingers.

“Look, is this the hygiene you guys maintain?” Ye Sanshi’s face darkened as he looked around. “Deng Hai, repeat what I said about hygiene!”

Deng Hai was called out, which made him feel very helpless. However, he had already been singled out, so he had no choice but to repeat what Ye Sanshi had said about hygiene.

“Report, sir. Class monitor, you just said that we have to be careful in cleaning. The entire dormitory, including the corners of the corridor outside, whether visible or invisible, must be carefully wiped with a rag to make it spotless,” Deng Hai replied reluctantly.

“Hmph, so this is the answer you’re giving me now?” Ye Sanshi pulled a stern face and said in a deep voice, “Today is the first day, so I won’t argue with you. Deng Hai, the door is now in your hands.”

Deng Hai was definitely cursing in his heart, but he had no choice but to reply with a “yes” and then go to get a rag.

Next, Ye Sanshi checked other places. Just like when they were checking the folding of the blanket, the situation was terrible. Even when everyone was cleaning, they had put in a lot of effort.

However, it was obvious that everyone who had just joined the army had not yet adapted to the harsh standards.

The white glove was originally pure white, but after Ye Sanshi finished inspecting it, the five fingers and even the inside of the palm had changed color.

Other than Zhang Ping’an, who was on duty, everyone else in the class picked up their rags again. Fortunately, there was no punishment, only some scolding and cursing.

Wang Ye and the others had also heard this situation. It was not only their own class, but also the class next door. The curses of the class monitors could be heard through the wall.

…..

“Shh!” A whistle sounded.

Wang Ye raised his hand and looked at his watch. It was already 7:20 pm.

“Alright, gather downstairs!” Ye Sanshi didn’t torment everyone for too long. In these ten minutes, those places in the dormitory that didn’t meet the standards were redone under his supervision.

Under his lead, the entire class didn’t rush down like before. Instead, they lined up in a row, walked out of the dormitory, and gathered outside the building.

“Unity is strength… This power is iron, this power is steel…”

“Can’t you guys open your mouths? How long has it been? Why is it still like this? I want to hear a sound. Start again!”

In front of the canteen, there were nearly a hundred recruits. Perhaps 90% of them wanted to rush up and kick Wu Jianfeng away, then hold him down and beat him up.

They could already smell the fragrance in the canteen, but this fellow actually didn’t allow them to enter directly after leading everyone over. He even wanted them to gather at the entrance of the canteen and sing first.

Additionally, even when they were singing, he would always complain that everyone was not singing loudly enough. Eventually, he even went as far as to say that they were singing without any emotion.

How could he expect them to put their emotions into the song “Unity is Strength” when they were shouting it out loud? Wang Ye had no idea how to do this, and the other recruits were clearly in the same boat. They could only endure his torment.

The hungry recruits sang “Unity is Strength” for over ten minutes at the entrance of the canteen, where the aroma of food was wafting through the air. However, their resentment grew with each passing moment.

Finally, the sergeant relented and allowed them into the cafeteria, which contained ten large, round tables, with one recruit standing beside each of them. There was no need for any further instructions; the recruits knew exactly where to go and quickly made their way to their respective squad positions.

“Wow, is the food in the army so sumptuous?”

“How extravagant!”

Upon entering the canteen and surveying the food on the table, some of the recruits let out a soft sigh. A large basin was placed in the center, filled with sweet potatoes, buns, steamed buns, and fried pancakes. Rice bowls were also arranged around the table, each containing porridge, a bottle of milk, an apple, and a banana.

For many of them, it was the most lavish breakfast they had ever experienced.

“Did I tell you you can start?!” A sudden loud shout came from behind.

Wang Ye turned around to see Class 7’s table, where their class monitor was holding a pair of chopsticks, clearly frustrated.

In Class 7, one of the recruits had covered his hand, and a bun had dropped onto the ground. He stood there with a red, embarrassed face, unsure of what to do.

“Pick it up!” their squad leader bellowed once more. The recruit dared not resist and quickly squatted down to retrieve the bun.

“Sit down. You have three minutes,” the squad leader instructed. He didn’t continue to berate the recruit, but the other recruits couldn’t help but glance at him.

“Why are you staring at me? Sit down!” Ye Sanshi said calmly, taking his seat.

“Alright, let’s eat!” Wu Jianfeng announced, picking up his chopsticks and addressing the table where only he and the instructor were seated.

The hungry recruits in the canteen began to eat, but their nerves were still on edge because the various class monitors were eyeing them fiercely as if they wanted to eat them alive.

In Class Five, Deng Hai moved quickly, shoving a fried pancake into his mouth. Wang Ye quickly pulled him back and gestured for him to observe Ye Sanshi. The next moment, Deng Hai held the pancake and opened his mouth, unsure of what to do.

“C-Class monitor, W-Would you like this?” he stammered, offering the pancake to Ye Sanshi.

Ye Sanshi snorted coldly and took the pancake without hesitation. After taking a bite, he looked at the other recruits and said, “What are you all daydreaming about? Eat!”
