Chapter 44 Consideration
TL: Kyous
Odin frowned while calculating the time. According to the current time, he was soon graduating. After graduating, he could leave Blue Vine University to look for a job. By then, he could distance himself from the church a bit.
The profession he had right now was the Black Death Society’s profession. These professions were extremely unpopular and no one in the world acknowledged them as proper professions. Therefore, not many people could determine his profession.
However, if it was the nemesis of the Black Death Society, the Church of Death God, then certainly they could spot some clues on Odin’s body. Although he was acting normally right now, it was a matter of time before he was discovered.
At that time, it wasn’t simple monitoring anymore. His life might even be in the grasp of the Church of Death God. Moreover, the moment Odin met the Father for the first time, he was extremely disturbed by it.
Spacing out for a whole morning, Odin didn’t even listen to the lectures as his brain was gearing up for ways to escape this place. He refused to be monitored and locked in a single place.
After being anxious for the entire morning, a piece of rather good news arrived at noon.
“Odin, the teacher asks you to go to his office.” One of the students yelled at Odin.
“What’s the matter?” Odin’s heart was pounding frantically. Did the Church of Death God tell something to the teachers and right now was going to imprison him?
“It’s about the graduation certificate, he wanted to have a talk with you about it.” The student was perplexed by Odin’s reaction. A single word of the teacher looking for him caused his face to pale.
Hearing this, Odin finally relaxed. He didn’t expect his chance to leave Blue Vine University would arrive this soon.
Right now, the teachers on campus would introduce some jobs as well. So, regarding the graduation certificate, the teacher probably called him to discuss future jobs. There shouldn’t be any danger lingering around. Odin heaved out a sigh of relief and stood up. He gradually headed towards the office.
“Odin, you’re here.” The teacher in the office was pouring a cup of tea. In front of him were stacks of documents and Odin’s graduation certificate. Seeing Odin arrive, he casually pointed at the chair next to him, hinting Odin to sit down and have a talk.
“What’s the matter, sir?” Odin sat on the chair, trying to be as obedient as possible to avoid unnecessary troubles.
“Aren’t you graduating soon? Now the certificate has been issued, I called you over to inquire about your final whereabouts. What are your thoughts about this? I would like to hear about them.” Removing the glasses, the teacher stared at Odin.
Heh, he still asks about my thoughts. Obviously, he called me here for a purpose, not because he really wanted to ask what I’m going to do.
Looking at Odin mummed for a while, the teacher narrowed his eyes and carefully examined Odin’s expression. Discovering nothing odd, he voiced out, “Then, are you interested to work for the government in doing some accounting work? I think this job is quite compatible with your major.”
Initially, Odin intended to have an accounting job in the government after he graduated. The salary was decent and the work was relatively easy. He could have an ordinary life.
But after awakening his extraordinary power, his ambition began to grow. He didn’t want to do errands for the government anymore. Besides, countless forces were aiming at him, it was impractical for him to work for the government at ease. Crisis certainly would come knocking one after another.
“I’m not interested in this aspect. Does the teacher have any other suggestions?” Odin gingerly smiled at the teacher, acting as well-behaved as possible. Conversely, within his heart, he was extremely impatient and wished to stand up and question this teacher’s intention.
“It’s fine if you’re not interested in this work.” There was no expression on the teacher’s face. However, if one carefully observed, the teacher’s mouth was slightly tilted downward. Picking up the cup of tea, he took a sip of it to lubricate his throat while reorganizing his emotions.
Then, he continued, “I’ve read your profile and it said you joined a combat club. So, you know combat techniques, right?” He casually flipped through the stack of profiles in front of him. In the column of the club in Odin’s profile, the name ‘Detroit Ground Combat Club’ was filled in it.
“Yes. I was pulled in to make up the number and learned a few combat techniques.” Before figuring out the teacher’s intention, Odin naturally wouldn’t spit out everything. He was just selecting unimportant details to talk about.
“Then, do you wish to join White Eagle Republic’s army? This is a good job too. Look at how good I am to you. Joining the army is a respectable job for every resident of White Eagle Republic.” The teacher smiled at Odin, but for Odin, the image of a weasel wishing a chicken a good year suddenly appeared in his mind.
Odin wasn’t mentally challenged, why would he join White Eagle Republic’s army?
The discipline of the army was strict and there were tons of regulations after joining it. Personal freedom was restricted too. How should he search for items for him to advance into Spirit Perceiver?
Furthermore, the army was heavily guarded and under the jurisdiction of the six great churches. Joining the army was equivalent to presenting himself to the hands of the churches.
If that was the case, then what was the reason for him to swiftly leave Blue Vine University? Might as well lay a mattress and sleep in the church, it also could save them some personnel for monitoring.
“I’m not interested in this job either.” This time, Odin didn’t speak gingerly anymore. His tone turned solemn, firmly rejecting the teacher’s suggestion.
He thought after rejecting this way, the teacher wouldn’t bother him anymore and let him simply pick a random job. But unbeknownst to him, the teacher gave the third suggestion without flaring up at all.
“Then, I still have another suggestion for you. I know you’re very capable, so I want you to be the mayor of a small town in the west. This job is once in a lifetime.” The teacher put his glasses up and looked at Odin with a cold gaze.
Momentarily, Odin fell into deep thoughts. He was unsure whether or not to decline this job. The west was rather far from here and he probably could avoid gazes from the church. However, he was uncertain what responsibilities of a mayor were waiting for him. Perhaps it might be something more terrifying than being monitored. Odin was uncertain whether to take the gamble or not.
Seeing the still hesitating Odin, the teacher finally revealed an impatient expression as his eyes turned sharp.
