Yin Yuan and Jiang Yi both always made fun of her – You will always be the bimbo in sports meets.
It was the same this time.
Ruan An’an immediately shook her head in refusal when the Sports Committee inquired about her participation, “Believe me, I’ll just be a burden to the team, I’m terrible at sports, it’ll be a humiliation.”
Unable to persuade Ruan An’an, the Sports Committee member turned to the next student, “How about you Brother Gu?” The Sports Committee member pleaded, “Help us, you’re so good at basketball, you have such a good body with such long legs, it won’t be a problem for you to sign up for a long-distance run, right?”
Ruan An’an, too, turned to look at Brother Gu.
In less than a week after selecting their curriculums, Gu Jue had turned from the cool, quiet, distant guy to an extremely welcoming figure in class. He was able to get along very well with some boys in the class, and was even given the title of “Brother Gu” or “Gu God”.
Ruan An’an wondered if friendship established over basketball was deeper than one established through normal communication – He was greeted with absolute worshipping respect every time someone called out to him.
Gu Jue was absent minded. He obviously did not get enough sleep the night before; his eyes were barely open, and the greenish tinge of his dark circles was particularly obvious beneath his cold and white skin. His lips were wrapped around a lollipop.
He glanced at the Sports Committee member, giving off a vibe very much like a big brother of the campus, however, the white lollipop stick made him look contrastingly adorable.
After a few seconds, barely lifting his eyelids, as if his brain had just registered the question: “… Sign up for what?”
His voice was clean and clear, with a hint of hoarseness and nasal tone; it was especially addictive.
The Sports Committee member flipped through the pages of the registration book and thrusted it to him, “Look, there will be basketball games. The team games are after the track and field events, you must participate in the team games.” He turned over another page and continued, “There’s discus throw, shot put, and high jump for field events. There are even more for track events – a hundred meters, two hundred meters, four hundred meters, eight hundred meters, a thousand meters…”
Gu Jue lifted his eyes and interrupted him with the lollipop still in his mouth, “… Do you want to kill me?”
For some reason, Ruan An’an burst out laughing, causing the two to turn their heads. She waved her hands, “It’s nothing, please continue.”
“…”
Gu Jue did not turn back.
He withdrew the lollipop in his mouth and stared at her, “Classmate, is there any event that you particularly like?”
“Ah?” Ruan An’an was stunned for a moment, “Any event that I like… why?”
“Nothing,” Gu Jue raised an eyebrow, “Say it, give me a reference.”
“Oh.” Ruan An’an nodded, thinking carefully; but the Sports Committee member, from having a good understanding of the recent events in the forum and the gossip in the class group chat, immediately responded shrewdly, “Let me translate it for you. He didn’t mean what event you like, but more of – what event do you think is cool?”
A suggestion of a smile appeared on Gu Jue’s face as he glanced at the Sports Committee member, “You got it.”
Ruan An’an was in a daze.
Maybe it was still early in the morning, she was not attuned to the implication. If it was not for the Sports Committee member, she would have not guessed it.
So what he meant was – I will sign up for whichever one you think is cooler, since I can do anything anyway.
Tsk, he’s pretending to be macho, but it’s so sweet at the same time.
Ruan An’An held down her laughter and thought carefully, “I like running. Long or short distance doesn’t matter.”
