Chapter 49: A Dawlf assassin....?

He began to pick the green coins after he had given every member of the team two green coins each. "A shame that I can't store the monsters body, but this will do too."

He didn't know if the coins were worth anything or what they meant to the spirit, but Jael collected everything and began to look for more goblins to hunt.

He moved the team to another part of the village after they used the single-file movement. Then he would go off to hunt them while they lay protected under Litha's shield.

He passed many Awakeners and used their cry for help to locate the goblins. He didn't interfere with the other Awakeners; he left them to wander as they wished. He even met some that could see perfectly just as well– those he avoided and they avoided him too.

He repeated it again and again. Moved the team. Hunt goblins. Until Jael couldn't count the number of green coins he had or the number of dead Awakeners he saw as he fought around the village.

"Hey, you!" A male voice suddenly called out.

Jael dispatched the last goblin in front of him before he turned, and standing atop the remaining roof of a building was a dwarf, his bulky body clad in dark clothes, but his face showed, wild red hair and beard. "Are you talking to me?" He asked, almost doubtfully.

The dwarf grunted. "Who else I am talking to? The goblins? Yes, you!"

Jael has been avoiding every awakener that can see. It's simply too much of a hassle to fight anything other than goblins right now since he's using Hermit for only senses. Worse he could see the emblem on the dwarf's chest– it's that of The Blazing Guild.

"What do you want with me?" He asked wearily.

The dwarf snorted. "I am surprised you can see in here, that mean you must have some talent. But you must leave here quickly and stop hunting. Go to another place now!"

Jael still didn't know any king, but now he knew that it was a Guild team. "And if I don't move? You can't just declare yourself some king over a place! We are all here to claim the zone."

The dwarf grinned and pointed a dagger at him. "Your team is near and they'll take arrows to their skulls. The shield won't protect them, especially when they are as blind as bat."

Jael flinched, so there's that. It didn't leave him with much of a choice then. He walked backward, keeping his eyes on the assassin dwarf as he quickly walked away.

He moved the team away. Cursing whoever the King was in his mind, 'If not for the darkness and the threat against the team I will show them a thing or two about royalty'

But thankfully that was the only interaction he had with other Awakeners. Except for when he heard screaming close by and he would run there to kill the goblins and take their coins without making any contact with the wounded Awakeners.

And except for the Blazing, there's no other team that got in his way.

When Jael was admitted into the shield again, his teammates stared at him as if he had three heads. Jael checked himself and groaned when he saw the green blood on him. He was covered with it from head to toe. "Damn goblins, even in death they continue to disturb me!"

Just then, before anyone spoke about the cruelty of goblins, the darkness rolled back, and a beam of light shone through. With an audible 'pop,' everything returned to normal, and the sun shone true and strong from the sky.

Jael quickly covered his eyes but too late, the light burned his eyes. He groaned and fell because with the heightened senses, it felt as if he was looking at the sun inches from his eyes.

And he wasn't the only one. Gasping and shouts of pain filled the air, the light entered eyes that was already getting used to darkness.

The spirit laughed from the sky, floating gently as if everything was a harmless prank. "Congratulations! Now you can proceed to the next part of the trial!"
